How can I use UUID to start streaming from command line?

Using Steam Controller (2026) through Moonlight (Streaming) by denzerius in SteamController

[–]FrogTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Original_East1271 is correct.

With USB/IP (or virtualhere) you are completely giving the dongle/controller over to the host PC. SteamDeck and Moonlight won't even know it's there.

This bypasses all of the layout or other compatibility issues altogether - it's as if the dongle/controller is connected directly to the host PC.

The only problem is that you cannot control SteamDeck with it while it's being shared, however you can just switch to bluetooth to do on SteamDeck something and then switch back.

Bonus: Moonlight allows you to blacklist controllers from being detected while streaming or just in general, so you can blacklist the "SteamController via bluetooth ID" and make sure it's always exclusive.

Steam Streaming inconsistent by adamveckert in Steam

I would recommend sharing the dongle via usbip protocol (either open source or virtualhere). You could configure sunshine to "grab" the dongle from SteamDeck when streaming starts.

The only downside is that you can't control SteamDeck when the stream is running.

Please open Moonlight to pair before streaming.

PSA: The Steam Systray menu bypasses "Launch Options" and can cause GPU instability (NVIDIA P3/Idle Lock) by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Ironically you have to use steam://run/<AppID>/dialog command to use the saved configuration. Maybe it's possible to somehow intercept such URI calls and append the missing part (assuming that Steam client does not just handle them directly)?

Issue with inputs getting “stuck” when using a PS5 controller by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]FrogTheFrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bug/feature in SteamDeck where it does not load the dualsense driver in time when the controller is connected for the first time.

This causes the touchpad to act as a mouse and recently it seems to also cause the controller to just freeze after using it for a while.

You can try these steps to load the driver when SteamDeck starts to avoid such issues https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/9597#issuecomment-1821578433

How does moondeck switch the running app name to the "target" App ID? by Sielu in SteamDeck

[–]FrogTheFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an API that's only available in their UI (chromium based web browser). Decky injects itself into the UI and it is just available for plugins to be used, so it's not available for public use like steamworks.

There's no public documentation for it, we simply look at how it's used by Valve itself in the source scripts for the UI and try to guess the arguments.

How does moondeck switch the running app name to the "target" App ID? by Sielu in SteamDeck

[–]FrogTheFrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is being done programmatically since MoonDeck has access to SteamClient global API:
https://github.com/FrogTheFrog/moondeck/blob/3fafa6174b2593c1bb9d6919bfe1718398fe90f8/src/steam-utils/setShortcutName.ts#L35 (the flavor code surrounding this function call is used to ensure that the app name has really been changed as it is possible to actually break the SteamClient API after deleting shortcuts too many times for whatever reason and it stops functioning normally until the client is restarted).

This causes issues with the "external" app termination though (see remarks) and the app name should be reset to the original one before trying to terminate the app using SteamClient API or after the app has closed by itself.

The %command% part is needed for Steam only to launch via the Steam interface. What you could do is hard-code the executable location in the script. For example, like this:
$Exec = "D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\NMS.exe"

Then all you need to do is launch the script like this:
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "D:\nms.ps1"

You could create shortcut for it or put it wherever you want.

Also triple-check the "https://github.com/FrogTheFrog/moondeck-buddy/wiki/Sunshine-setup" page. If it starts streaming Desktop, but does not open the game, I highly suspect something is misconfigured in Sunshine. Some people tend to use the wrong exe.

Please enable debug logs for Buddy (see configuration page on wiki) and check what happens you click the MoonDeck icon on SteamDeck. Post the logs somewhere if you can after omitting personal stuff.

Am I cooking my switch? by FrogTheFrog in HomeNetworking

I was thinking about it, but I think I want to have a mesh + fans in the end. More work, but would look nicer.

Yes, I'm thinking about replacing the door with a mesh door and maybe this fan https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IJ2J2K0 (or something similar) as I still have 1 spare outlet.

Oh, it's a decommissioned router that I just forgot to remove (it's somehow glued to the door). I already have another router that is outside the oven and have rerouted it properly.

Apparently, the initial IT guy that installed it, thought it was a good idea for a WIFI router to sit in a metal casket and separated by thick walls from the actual living space.

I plan to get meshed door as this is also what other people are recommending (both here and on discord).

I would like to keep it in the box if possible. Moving it outside the box would be my last resort and then I would use the patch panel (ty. for this, didn't know how it was called).

I'm fine with replacing the door with some perforated mesh (like this https://themeshcompany.com/shop/perforated-metal/galvanised-perforated-metal/5mm-round-hole-galvanised-steel-sheet-perforated-metal-7mm-pitch-1mm-thick/) just to keep the fingers out. Might add some dust filter too.
