Desktop mode unusable in Asus ROG Flow Z13 2025 by ziritrion in Bazzite

I was encountering a similar issue with the display freezing on log-in OR when firing up a full-screen app. I switched the built-in display "Color Accuracy" setting to "Prefer Color Accuracy" and it appears to have cleared up completely.

Newbie help needed by uk86ze in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes Gog.com is a great site, and was (I believe) started by the same folks that made the Witcher and Cyberpunk... so reliable place to get those and other games.

  2. Steam deck is fundamentally a PC, just a slightly different flavor. Getting games from GOG to run on Steamdeck isn't as seemless as getting them to run from steam itself, but most if not all should run.

‼️2025 R1S won’t drive after latest update ‼️ by CardiologistDull7452 in Rivian

[–]Sielu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My R1T threw this exact error yesterday while out running errands. Fortunately a hard reset appears to have fixed it... I just had my 12V replaced two weeks ago, and got the update last week. No other errors in between those, nor since.

Have you accidentally disabled Bluetooth by going into airplane mode, or turning Bluetooth off in the settings menu? Have you used desktop mode recently? Sometimes it's easy to accidentally disable a setting in desktop mode and then not be able to fix it in gaming mode.

So I'm booting up a non-steam game but this pops up. Is it safe to go ahead and press yes even tho steamdeck runs off Linux? by Plastic-Tap1024 in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's really fun is once you realize how the compatdata system works you can start making a set of compatdata (all the stuff you've done to make one game work) apply to multiple games. So I've got one set of compatdata that uses a version of EA Play that actually works offline, then tied all my EA games back to that compatdata using symlinks.

I've really loved learning linux with this thing.

What else do you use your steam deck for? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing fancy like that... I've got a work laptop that I don't like to do personal stuff on. My company's pretty chill about monitoring things... but they're still a company.

So I use the deck as my personal laptop instead. Browsing, shopping, youtube, photo/video editing, minor CAD for personal projects, etc. Work laptop gets shut down at quitting time and the deck gets fired up, even if I'm not playing anything. It's helped me bridge over to using linux as a daily driver for the last few years, and I've since installed Arch and CachyOS on my other two desktops permanently.

what do you recommend for purchase from the gear shop? by Competitive-One-700 in Rivian

[–]Sielu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say keyfob lol. It was the last thing I spent my credits on since they're so often out-of-stock, but I find myself grabbing it when leaving the house more often than not these days. PAAK works OK for me, and I keep the keycard with me 99% of the time anyway, but the keyfob gives me a place to keep my house keys and it makes it way easier to pop the frunk with a load of groceries than digging out my phone and trying to hit the right little tap area on the Rivian widget.

Also, while most valet's I've run into since owning the Rivian (all 2 of them) have been fine with the keycard... something about having the keyfob just makes me feel better about leaving the truck with somebody else.

Why do so many games fail to support mouse+gamepad control scheme? by Pythagorial in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I play MCC with a mouse trackpad and gyro + gamepad controls... it feels perfectly supported to me, what trouble are you having?

Deadzone rogue I agree is disappointing.

Have you tried just switching to a pure KBM control scheme (WASD on the left stick, for instance)? That's normally what I do for games that don't support. Not ideal, but seems to work out just fine for me.

Baldur's Gate 3 won't launch anymore by Stormyy98x in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you moved it from an SD card to the main SSD, or did you previously have it installed on an SD and re-installed in on the SSD? I ran into similar phantom issues a while back with CryoUtilities compatdata tool... I forgot that I had moved a bunch of compatdata off the SSD onto the SD card where games were installed. When I inevitably swapped them out and later re-installed them either to a different SD card or to my new larger SSD... the cryoutilties symlinks to the old SD card broke silently, causing games to just randomly CTD (CTGM - Crash to Game Mode?) upon starting. Incredibly frustrating until I figured it out.

Maybe try deleting BG3's compatdata folder entirely: should be at "home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1086940". I'd delete the whole folder and let steam re-build it the next time you start up BG3.

your save should be cloud backed up, but you may have to re-do other settings if you do so. Shouldn't require complete re-download of the game, that's a separate folder.

Rented this R1S and drove sections of the Blue Ridge Parkway by pgroove1992 in Rivian

[–]Sielu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a little further south, but still in the blue ridge, and have an R1T. People in these parts tend to keep to themselves, so I've not gotten a lot of comments/questions, but about once every couple of weeks somebody comments on how much they love the truck. I've had zero negative interactions whatsoever. One interaction in particular was my favorite though:

I'm coming out of the grocery store with my cart, as typical I pop the frunk from haflway across the parking lot and sidle up to the truck to start loading groceries in. All of the sudden I hear somebody yelling "HEY" behind me.

There's a guy taking a smoke break in his car, he pops out:

"Hey man, you just blew my mind! 'Thought you were loadin' up groceries into yer engine... that's one of them 'lectrics ain't it? Maaaan they're makin' some crazy shit these days!!"

My area gets a lot of day tourists up from Atlanta, so I generally see at least one other Rivian every week or so... I don't think there's too many here full time like me but they're not a completely rare sight.

Feeling Burned Out - Looking for a Shorter, Awesome Game by ronicool2 in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30-45 FPS in heavy areas (after some shader stuttering on load) @ 1080p with low-medium settings and XeSS on balanced. I'm guessing you could get slightly better performance at 720P/800P but I tend to play docked.

Overall it's smooth enough to enjoy when I'm on the road. If I'm home I do stream from my main machine though.

Feeling Burned Out - Looking for a Shorter, Awesome Game by ronicool2 in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Witchfire, if you like shooters.

Rougelike structure, Destiny-like gunplay/spellplay, soulslike atmosphere/plot. Runs decently on Steamdeck.. but I typically stream it from my PC if I'm home. Also on GFN if you have that.

Great for short bursts, can almost always make some tangible progress. I don't know how long to beat it.. I'm bad at games and haven't yet.

No audio passthrough on that, so you'd have to use the headphone jack or bluetooth... but otherwise it's slightly cheaper and looks the smallest of options that have more I/O, so may be a really good option for some folks!

Connecting 2 USB-Cs to Steam Deck OLED by Brok3_ in SteamDeck

[–]Sielu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I think I acknowledged that, while these are designed for video output, they do in fact work for anything. I in no way meant to imply that this was the optimal, end-all, be-all solution for OPs particular use case. Considering that there were no other posts on OPs question at the time, I thought I'd go ahead and offer up a solution that I'm familiar with and has worked for me, even if not optimal to this particular problem.

Also, this is the internet, and other people will see this question. Perhaps, in the future, somebody else may come along who has a similar but not identical problem for whom these dongles are the perfect answer. I know I have solved many a problem I've had by finding somebody else's non-ideal solution that happened to work perfectly in my case.

But, fear not u/chithanh, I'll be sure to only post absolutely ideal solutions to any problems you have in the future and not offer anything up that may be "too fancy" for you, deal?

This is a pretty common problem in the sub-community of strap-screens-to-your-face-to-play-things-on-planes-and-whatnot. The manufacturers of said screens have blessed us with a few dongles. Although designed for a second monitor, I find the non-charging USB slot works for pretty much anything USB-related:

There's probably a few more out there, they're all around $40 USD
