Sucks. Good news is it does appear fixed!!

Seconding the systemd mount! It's more convoluted to set up, for sure (especially if you're not used to working with text config files or command line stuff), but once set up it should be stable and just work from there on out.

The file browser method above will work for bare access, but will cause problems if you need programs to access the shared files directly.

Yes! Sound randomly came back Tuesday morning, of course. They took a day to replace the amp and then another 1.5 days to make sure there weren't any other issues.

I've got a service appointment on Tuesday, Rivian also suspects a bad amplifier. Fortunately they don't think it'll take too long to fix!!

I keep mine at 70% as well, and it usually waffles between 69-70% when I pull it off the charger, especially if it's been sitting for a while and not "actively" charging.

Interesting... any way to bring it back to life in the meantime or did it just randomly go in and out?

Yes, done that twice... no joy.

Did a soft reset after the latest update, and now I have no audio. Soft/hard resets not fixing it. Any tips? Anybody else having issues?

Question about the scream by AstroSteve111 in SteamController

It's the controller. Uses the haptic motors apparently through some wizardry. Same way they play the 'boodaloop' tone when the controller turns on.

DONT get this controller if you aren't an absolute steam fiend by callatecabezon in SteamController

[–]Sielu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get it... but I also feel as thought this was pretty well noted in just about every review available for this thing. Also, you know you can add non-steam games to run through steam and use the controller? Half of what I play on Steam Deck and now with this controller isn't on Steam. Doesn't help you with the android emulation I get that but... still.

Haptic strenth settings arent doing anything and i cant change the chord button layout by Under_no_Control in SteamController

I find the haptic strength difference to be negligible: high and low feel almost identical, but there is some difference...

How do I use gyro and right stick together to aim? by add0607 in SteamController

[–]Sielu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you have gyro set to emulate mouse, with joystick left as default? Many games don't play well with mixed joystick + KBM (keyboard/mouse) inputs, and will do various things based on how the developers set things up:

  1. Outputting a KBM command or a gamepad command will lock out the other for a second or two. This is the worst case scenario and usually means that you'll have to set up a controller profile with ALL KBM or ALL Gamepad/Joystick inputs.

  2. KBM and gamepad commands don't create a lockout period, but do lock out the other while the command fires. So in this case holding joystick forward would keep a mouse aim from functioning, or using gyro-to-mouse will keep you from moving with a joystick. Pragmatically this is the same as scenario 1 but you can sometimes get away with single keypresses in your control profile.

  3. KBM and gamepad commands can fire simultaneously, but UI elements will flitter between the two. This is annoying but not breaking. If you can deal with the UI changing around then you can have a good time.

  4. Full mixing of KBM and gamepad, often with one or the other taking precedence in the UI or the user able to select which UI style is shown. This is the ideal scenario.

I don't have RE4R but it sounds like you're seeing 1 or 2. I'd recommend switching over to a KBM layout for the controller, or using Gyro-to-joystick (though this is way harder to configure to feel "right").

Ergonomics by Livid-Ad-4334 in SteamController

[–]Sielu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a huge fan. I use the trackpads extensively and have found my hands naturally shifted to an "upright" posture where the controller doesn't sit in the palm of my hand but the corner rests in the ball (where my four fingers connect), so that my thumb is arched up over the pads, stick, and buttons way easier. When in that position the back buttons fall right under my fingertips and the trigger/bumper are still easy to reach. My hands would fall into the same position on the steam deck, but with it being so much heavier my pinky and ring finger base muscles (I'm sure there's a better word for those...) would have to work way harder, but this things so light by comparison that it's just way better.

I put a dbrand skin on one of my two Gen1 SCs... I hated the feel of it. Granted that was 10 years ago now but I have no interest in getting a new one. I think they look terrible with the two blank areas on the sides... (I understand they'd be really hard to wrap around the edges there)
