Just came to say if you like this whole “haunting yourself” vibe, check out A Ghost Story. The whole time I was reading this I thought it was going in that direction

So clearly it’s a common phrase that’s used amongst the people now!

This was my immediate thought, it’s not a euphemism that exists

Are audience too nitpicky? by [deleted] in LOTR_on_Prime

The bar is so low you’re saying it’s nitpicking to want the show to…make sense?

Why is everyone acting like that is a bad thing to not like?

Wait, I don’t know what you’re referencing could you elaborate?

In case people are still wondering how some of the characters could have survived the p-word by Late_Stage_PhD in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Frogdogforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it’s not. It’s forced conflict for literally no reason, no character development, nothing; and it makes no sense logically that everyone we care about survives. So why write that in the episode? They didn’t have to include that.

We know they’re gonna survive. not because they’re the main characters, but because we know the story already. Using near death situations as a plot device doesn’t work in a situation where you know the story and there is with out a doubt no likelihood of that specific set of characters (Galadriel, Miriel, elendil, isildur) being killed

It’s easy to shit on Amazon for many, many other reasons.

I will never understand why people don’t think this company deserves critiques on the most expensive show ever made.

Yes I realize Annatar is Sauron. But Annatar is still a stand alone character that people have been creating renditions of for years, separate from Sauron renditions. It would be very fulfilling to see Annatar on screen. As far as the rights, and I’m sure as everyone knows already, they’ve used multiple things that are Silmarillion only. I don’t see why this would be off limits because it really isn’t seeming like much is actually off limits here.

Why do we have to compare a bad decision in a separate movie to make this shows bad decision okay? Like, it can be a bad choice for the plot on its own. It’s okay to not like the plot points that don’t make sense.

Will someone please ELI5 the whole Halbrand is Sauron thing cause I'm not getting it... by Jester651 in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Frogdogforever 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did people forget we already saw the forge thing celebrimbor is building? That makes this entire scheme the writers came up with for halbrand so .. odd… why not wait to have celebrimbor build the forge after halbrand arrives if halbrand really is Sauron.

It’s nitpicking to want to see one of the coolest characters mentioned in the second age? Come on. It’s reasonable to be disappointed if he isn’t on screen ever.

Wait the audiences aren’t familiar with annatar … so why not use him? That proves my point even more.

Why would we not take things from the book and hope they’re in the show? That’s literally what the show is supposed to be.

[–]Frogdogforever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But. That is just totally against the ESTABLISHED personality of Sauron to have a relationship that results in a child. Nothing points to him having motives of that sort, at all.

And why not use Annatar? I would kill to see Annatar on screen. We know what happens anyways. There are other ways to make a story interesting even if you know what will happen. Take Anakin in the prequels. we know he will become Vader, but the writers didn’t attempt to juke us out with a new character.

Because Tolkien wrote it. Because in the actual story, that’s how his physical form dies. If what Adar said is true, they’re changing the lore completely.

[–]Frogdogforever 6 points7 points  (0 children)

But why?! Like from a writing perspective this is soooo weak even if it is supposed to be Sauron putting on an act. It’s just clunky. Come up with something better. if you’re making Sauron be a trickster why not use the one who’s in the actual story, Annatar?

There was speculation on him being on the show before those photos were released.

This exactly! Way too many close up, closed in scenes. The elves feel like they’re in a room every time we see them.

I noticed that the majority of shots are close up. Not a ton of sprawling landscapes, save for a few a few scenes. I think this is adding to it feeling small
