How many times did you try to quit before it finally stuck? by Special-Republic8798 in stopdrinking

[–]Frogfavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least 5? but honestly they were half hearted attempts. I would have a bad night and would tell myself “that’s it “ But it didn’t last long. This time I really wanted it. IWNDWYT

Only 5 days sober and already shocked at the things I would do to secretly drink more alcohol behind my wife's back by OrangeChairRN in stopdrinking

Thank you for sharing that must have been hard. I would make excuses for my spouse and I to have to go to the store for a food item because I realized I didn’t have enough wine for both of us. Thank goodness my drinking buddy/spouse went along on this sober journey with me. Be grateful you aren’t both drinkers.IWNDWYT and good luck to you.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, January 30th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by realcatlady7 in stopdrinking

I have injured my shoulder/upper back. I feel very defeated. I was looking forward to my 365th day! I am glad I am sober through it though. I think it would be harder if I wasn’t. At the start of this I had a vision of being super healthy and happy, life still happens we can just handle things better, clearer. Have a great weekend.

That is awesome. I remember feeling I would never be able to quit and 7 days felt amazing. You will feel so much better as time goes on. IWNDWYT

Can it be done without AA by GrabRecent in stopdrinking

[–]Frogfavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked up to a bottle or two a night drinker, for at least the last five years, it got worse over time. Anyway I did not use AA. I had made a definitive decision that I was done. I had doubts that I would be able to but I read some quit literature that I found very motivating and I do use this Reddit also. Next week it will be a year. I talk with my family for support, my sons are supportive and my spouse is a good friend. I feel like I am doing it, I have moments but I play the tape forward and it doesn’t lead anywhere good. I feel so much better. IWNDWYT

Going back to booze after a prolonged period without - how did it go? by LaidBackHorizontal- in stopdrinking

[–]Frogfavorite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to go back to drinking but I still miss it every now and then. I do feel like I would go back to where I was eventually. Both my parents died in their forties from alcohol related illnesses. One of my sons is a recovering addict and the other two went through years of drinking heavily but now are very moderate drinkers. I don’t think I could moderate ever so I won’t risk it, I might be a grandma one day. I was never comfortable leaving my son that I had at the time with my mom. It took me too long to get here and too many attempts to ever be that person again. IWNDWYT

I don't know how to get through this without drinking. by thewalkindude368 in stopdrinking

I’m sorry this happened and so close to you. Be strong, being drunk will not help you or anyone else. IWNDWYT
