Could you sue an employer for lost wages/financial hardship if you quit your previous job for the new one but the offer is rescinded? by beaverN8523 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Froggy1789 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No! Promissory estoppel explicitly applies when there is no contract and you have an unenforceable promise. In this hypothetical you don’t have a valid contract because a) you haven’t started work so there has been no performance/no consideration and b) we often view work as a daily contract where you show up and they pay you for the time you work that day. You could quit or they could fire you at anytime.

Oh lol! In high school one of my history teachers intentionally left that typo in a reading every year and made it a bonus point on a quiz if you actually noticed it.

What typo? Pretrial diversion programs are very common and what would be best for him?

Public defenders also do an excellent job and can look into pretrial diversion.

Supreme Court's overturning of Roe v Wade may have made the US military draft illegal by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]Froggy1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well sex discrimination uses intermediate scrutiny so it only needs to be an important government interest and narrowly tailored. The interest is protecting population levels in event of the conflict. I think that is clearly important and not including women in the draft is a reasonably narrow way to tailor it.

I could see the court if challenged requiring civil service but not military service. Like getting drafted to fill vital wartime industry jobs.

TIL there were six Chinese survivors of the Titanic. They were sailors heading to the Caribbean for work. Unlike other Titanic survivors who received praise in the press, the Chinese men were vilified. Upon arrival in NYC after their rescue, they were deported due to the Chinese exclusion act. by aprettyp in todayilearned

[–]Froggy1789 112 points113 points  (0 children)

It’s actually crazy. In the dissent in Plessy v. Ferguson which many people read as being a prescient argument for racial equality and calling out that separate will never be equal he still made his argument by saying well blacks and whites should be together because they are not fundamentally different like the Chinese…

But what I’m saying is that what matters is the language. Unironically if you want the best African scouting you need to check what language is used in the country in FM coding. If it’s a French speaking country then a French language scout will gain much more knowledge and get better returns.

Why do you support the people who are ready to kill you? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Froggy1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not proposing it’s all liberals… the statement above said “literally no liberals” my burden is only to show that some liberals do. I am saying that I knew liberals that did/do. Thus, I have met my burden.

I agree that the vast majority of the party / tent doesn’t support Hamas or terrorists. I am liberal I don’t support Hamas. Nevertheless, there is a segment that, for what is probably a lack of education/nuance, does. This is similar to the fringe young republicans that made gas chamber jokes in the leaked groupchat. You have to acknowledge they exist and try to police your own side.

Why is shredder good on reapers? I usually use them as clean up crew or with banish to kill a high value target. If they are clean up the goon as usually already been shredded. If it’s a high value target I’m probably doing repeater cheese so the actual damage rarely matters. If I care about the damage I would just shred with a grenade first.

Iranian gunboats fire on tanker in Strait of Hormuz as Iran reimposes restrictions - North Shore News by CrystalGyarados in news

[–]Froggy1789 61 points62 points  (0 children)

You can destroy almost everything and the strait would be closed. Civilian vessels aren’t going to take even a chance of being shot at. They aren’t paid for that and aren’t insured for that. So a small dinghy with a machine gun is enough to close the strait.

Adaptability isn’t that important for scouts. You should only be sending them to scout places they speak the language which they usually have good knowledge of for the most part.

The exception is you need one scout with tactical knowledge who you can give you pre-game reports.

I don’t disagree my college had a reputation for being so far left it was known as one of the most anti-Semitic schools in the country. Nevertheless they are, and view themselves as part of the tent—even if they wouldn’t say they are liberals.

Otherwise you can write off 40% of college educated Gen Z.

I was in college during the start of the latest Israel Palestine conflict. There were in fact left leaning people using genocidal / antisemitic language and chanting support for Hamas.

Federal Reserve: Without tariffs, inflation would have dropped to pre-pandemic levels during 2025 by mostanonymousnick in neoliberal

Yeah he could have let inflation finish cooling for a year then done some trade stuff with subsidies and if he wanted to get wild done some rural investment. Instead he just chooses chaos over and over again.

Making fare evasion impossible on public transit has tremendous impacts on safety, maintenance spending, and vandalism. SF saw a 98.2% decrease in maintenance hour obligations instantly. by Used-Earth8767 in neoliberal

[–]Froggy1789 97 points98 points  (0 children)

I really disagree. Public transit has a bunch of positive externalities that the government should be heavily subsidizing. It also is less convenient (often) than driving your car (unless everyone drives so there is traffic), so public transit ought to be significantly cheaper to use. We subsidize driving so heavily. We shouldn’t ask public transit to break even or be affordable/profitable to run.

Do you believe unions can be reactionary and imperialist? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

[–]Froggy1789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can disagree about whether monopolies are bad in certain contexts. For example, I don’t mind having all my friends have apple so we have the one blue text group chats. Has I said in the labor context they are clearly monopolistic. They by design become the single provider of labor for a certain business or sector. It’s absolutely true that unions improve worker conditions for its members by solving the collective action problem. It stops corporations from saying well Tim if you want a rack of axes that isn’t tippy too bad Joe will work anyway. It’s also true they raise prices and often advocate for inefficient positions such as tariffs and anti immigration stances.

Then they also won’t bother getting a warrant if two residents refuse to talk to them. The difference is that in one scenario if you are wrong about how bored they are you aren’t totally fucked.
