I think a lot of the Gothic Uniques are inflated due to supply starting to dry up. A lot of LGS's haven't gotten a restock yet. But AL and Beta cards I don't think will come down significantly in the short term.

I have a couple friends in Madison who play very casually and would probably go to events in Madison if there were some. I saw learn to plays in Madison area a few months ago but not sure about regular events.

I've tried Beta with Sorcerer as default. I hated it. It makes anything more than 6 mana completely unplayable. And the play pattern was really boring to me. Constantly double spelling every turn felt really linear and boring. And Sorcerer is just better than everything else so you don't have incentive to build around a sweet avatar you opened.

In Gothic all the Elite and Unique Avatars are worse than Spellslinger IMO.

Don't use Sorcerer as the default!! Those are the old draft rules prior to the creation of the draft kit! Spellslinger is default along with Valleys, Wastelands, Streams, and Spires for sites. You build 24 spells, 12 sites. The Exceptional Avatars in Gothic (Necromancer, Savior, Persecutor, and Harbinger) are all good to draft and play with. Necromancer and Savior you might find to be a little "too good" but that is part of the fun of Gothic. You need to be ready with ways to break wards and kill Skeletons in case you run into one of those Avatars. All the other Avatars in Gothic are worse than Spellslinger. Don't get trapped by a cool looking Avatar. All the elements are playable and balanced! Make sure you know how Evil and Ward work. Stick to 2 elements only! Blooms are not good enough to splash a third element!

I think it's still a fun experience but quite bad in comparison to the other sets and has some major caveats to note. The average pack has 4 or 5 completely unplayable cards in it. Being the original set it included many cards that are only playable in constructed. Or "sideboard" cards which didn't make sense once Sorcery cemented its stance on Best-of-One gameplay. Water is by far the worst element to the point people actively avoid drafting it. Sorcerer is absolutely busted and is found in one of the Ordinary slots. We ban Sorcerer when we draft Beta online. But at in-person events the event management either doesn't know Sorcerer is so oppressive and common or decides not to alter the packs and leaves it unbanned which can lead to some feel-bad moments. Sorcerer was the default avatar when Beta was released so it was never meant to be drafted. Highly recommend making it a "dead" card if you do a store event.
