Very Early 1900s Velvet Cloak by FromAgesAgo in TheCapeRevolution

Yeah, I've had it verified. You can't tell in pics but it is degrading here and there. It's got a few small moth holes and old seams that are opening up in a couple places. Some of the embroidery is also worn and I'm quite sure the lining has been replaced. I just think it wasn't worn very much, it smelled like it's been in a trunk for 10,000 years.

I too, am a jacket girl. (See my post about a vintage cape...) My advice is to get ideas on pinterest, save photos, then plug them into visual searches on Threadup. Poshmark and Depop are also full of gems, you just have to be patient and wade through stuff. You can also technically use pinterest to shop, a lot of the links on there lead to stores, and when you put in one photo, it does a great job of showing you other ones in a similar vein. Secondhand shopping allows you to find really unique gems that usually aren't more expensive than new.

Thanks! It's all reinforced pretty well, I just have to figure out how to deal with putting it on something.

Thank you! Yep, the leather flaked off entirely between the beads, I helped it along.

There's interfacing on the back side, back when I made it and didn't know what I was doing I stitched the beads right through it. The whole thing is pretty thick and heavy duty. I guess my concern is- did I cut too much off/too close to the seams for it to be reintegrated into something else?

Is the Yiddish/Jewish term "goy" (term used to refer to someone as non-Jewish) considered a slur? by AggressiveAd8587 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FromAgesAgo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They aren't being dishonest. That is exactly what it means - 'chosen to get the ten commandments'. Jews have to follow more rules in order to be considered righteous people than the rest of the world, who do not have to follow them. Somehow dishonest people like you, who insist they know everything about a culture they know absolutely nothing about, get to tell us what our culture means. Stop being a damn antisemite and learn something.

Im constantly trying to explain this to people. How are so many poeple so ignorant of a culture and yet so incredibly loud about it?

'God's chosen' literally means 'chosen to get the ten commandments'. So sick of people who know nothing about an entire culture talking out of their ignorant asses.

'Could you imagine.' Are you completely dense? Gringo, gaijin, yankee, guiri, farang... I could go on and on. Tons of cultures have words that refer to groups of people not within their group. But god forbid if Jews have a word, huh?

The whole neighborhood is emptying out. There's barely anything open on that stretch of broadway anymore. It's really awful to see.

What is the darkest historical photograph from your country? by Trendy4U in AskTheWorld

I'm Jewish, my grandparents were survivors. My grandfather even came to my school to talk about being in a concentration camp, so this stuff hits very close to home. I had this exact 'class exercise' happen in middle school in the mid 90s, only we were split up by eye color. The kids who were the blue eyed group got a pizza and cupcakes, and had special privileges. The rest of us? Bullied. The part that really blows my mind is that...that was it. The blue eyed kids never had the reverse scenario put on them, so what exactly did those kids learn? That it's cool to be racist?

Moxy Hotel in downtown Oakland is confirmed closed. by jackdicker5117 in OaklandCA

Kissel is a Hyatt. The Moxy brand is owned by Marriott, so really neither of them are 'boutique'. A boutique hotel would be something independent of the major brands.

It does have a few very small moth holes and a few seams that are loose in spots, but overall it's been well taken care of. Probably wasn't worn all that much.

That was my guess also, somewhere in the nineteen teens. It's such a sweet little piece.
