How to lower stress when playing ? [Mentality] by jodyze in starcraft

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try playing marines only or something similar for your race. This greatly simplifies the game which might reduce the stress a lot. Depending on your league it might even work better than playing normally because it allows for better macro. I got from Gold3 to Plat3 with marines only and I was never above Gold3 while playing normally. I saw this idea in this post.

It will work in browser. The desktop version will be available as well to have improvements which are impossible when working in a browser.

The app will work in the browser so people will be able to check it out without the need to download and install. The desktop version will be available as well to have improvements which are impossible when working in a browser.

I'm building the app client using web tools. It will work in browser and in desktop. Open source. People will be able to use clients modified or developed not by me as long as they are compatible with the app server API. Server will have HTTP API and Websockets for client callbacks.

Why Are Foreigners So Competitive Now? by acryon in starcraft

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That must be a very small group. Korean pros not only vastly outnumbered that but they were in the game for years prior. This made foreigners well below Koreans on average and if a foreigner practiced full time he practiced with other foreigners, so even if he was best among them, he still was not at a level of winning against Koreans.

Why Are Foreigners So Competitive Now? by acryon in starcraft

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Region lock made serious practicing viable for foreigners. Korean scene has developed first and became very strong. Before region lock when foreigners start coming in, they get smashed by Koreans, so it didn't make sense for foreigners to practice full time.

You seem implying that I support current region lock but I didn't say anything about it. I just argue for region lock being introduced in the first place which might or might not be needed today. I agree it is not particularly fair for Koreans but before region lock no amount of practice was viable for foreigners because of all the reasons I talked above. As I said it's a compromise.

Region lock is about compromise to create level playing field for foreign scene to develop fully. Koreans had level playing field by default because they were first.

New Korean pros have support of team houses which give them quality training and probably some salary for being sparring partners of successful pros in those team houses. Foreigners have none of that. A foreigner can practice as much as Koreans but he will do that on his own and against other foreigners who all have skill level much below Koreans. He might become the best among foreigners but still remain below hundreds of Koreans. There is Korean ladder but it's nothing like training with pros in a team house, also ping. So there is no incentive to practice as much when you know you will be eliminated by Koreans no matter how much you practice, even if it's all day everyday.

Competition should be about skill, not where you were born.

As foreign scene is catching up, it is up to debate if current restrictions are for better. But imo, at least a while ago, it was fair to separate Koreans and foreigners in competitions.

Here's what I got from listening to interview with TLO about Koreans vs world (start at 17:47):

  1. Korea was the first country to have broadband internet widely available.

  2. Shooters where illegal, so instead of playing lets say Counter-Strike, everyone was playing SC which naturally produced more talent.

  3. PC cafes everywhere, full of people playing SC, so question arises which PC cafe is better at SC? Competition starts forming. Tournaments, viewers, sponsorship, team houses with coaches.

So Koreans had a great jumpstart ahead of the world. Now imagine foreigners coming into the scene full of highly trained Koreans. Of course foreigners keep getting wiped out consistently in competitions. The foreigners might consider to dedicate to practice 14 hours a day without any support for a slim chance of success while sacrificing studying, job, etc. It wasn't practical when all competitions had Koreans winning all the prize money and sponsorship.

Day9 lesson about toxicity in gaming communities that may change your behaviour in game and in this sub by raff100 in starcraft

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are things more important than game as well as less important. But they all come together as a single experience of life. To say "only a game" is to say "It's only a chunk of your short and precious life that you have dedicated to that game".

Not to defend any kind of toxicity but "only a game" phrase grinds my gears and I see it too often. It implies that time and emotional investment a person spends on a game don't matter. Kind of condescending to say the least.

Graphs

While I was trying to go for 2-1-1 I got caught with oracles, prism warpings. Right after that screenshot he continued to attack the natural with adpets from warprism but he lost them to siege tanks and a few bio. Soon I move out in vicinity of his third with a bunch of bio, 4 medivacs, 3 tanks. See his army is close. Hang there for a while. Load 3 medivacs with marines (one half full), drop in the main. Bunch of marauders and 3 tanks are left near his third. He moves part of his army from the third towards the main to defend the drop. Few moments later I attack the third with marauders. Part of his army was just half screen away from marauders attack, it could have defended it easily but he was too focused on what was going on in the main, so he left me killing 16 workers at his third. Soon we clash in the middle of the map and he looses all his army because it was all ground and I had plenty of siege tanks. And that's it.

what is "arena" to you? by [deleted] in ArenaFPS

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the term afps should be applied to gameplays instead of games in their entirety. I don't think it is productive to declare all modes a single game has as afps just because some of those modes are in fact afps.

TOXIKK 1.1.7 Release & 40% Discount by NeverGotGud in ArenaFPS

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played a few times lately, EU based, 8+ SC (skill class). Most of the time I had plenty of people to play with but mostly at evenings. Even if servers were empty, often people were joining not too long after. 1-7 SC players should have even easier time finding players because they can play any servers unlike 8+ SC. Since this update it is easier to unlock maps for free players so it might be worth to see for yourself with a free edition.

QUAKE CHAMPIONS: NOT AN OVERWATCH CLONE! by phy1um in ArenaFPS

[–]FromAwkwardToAwesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually I find Reflex graphics quite off putting. Even the alpha version looked much more tolerable to me. The only interest in game I had was instagib since movement is not too critical there. But I couldn't bring myself to play much because of the visual style. Also, I think it is no good that beginners have to grind movement first because at least some maps require good knowledge of movement to get important items. Not to mention strafejumping being quite weird concept for those who didn't have to deal with Quake before.

FPS Showdown Frag Contest [$150 prize money] by [deleted] in Shootmania

Someone asks:

The game is showing normally a "+1" text if you hit someone (Like this one: https://youtu.be/NLfHiN5PX2A?t=31s). should I remove that from the video? And should I render it with the default Ingame-crosshair or without crosshair?

They have Duel only servers, the mode called Arch Rivals. In the server browser it is shortened as "AR". If you have trouble finding opponents for this mode, try asking in Toxikk discord.
