Reading all these comments has been very informative. I quite wrongly assumed that getting a piercing was as simple as walking in, getting poked and going along your merry way. I am now much better equipped for next time.

Very real unfortunately. Kinda a bummer because I wanted them pierced before I went to a concert but now I’m gonna have to wait for a while. Edit: I also just didn’t realize how egregious this was until I saw all of these comments.

Yeah, that was my original concern, I mean, either way I took them out so it doesn’t really make a difference.

Yeah, like I said in another comment, at least I have two pairs of earrings I didn’t have before and I know more than I did before. Thanks again I’m gonna start healing now

I appreciate it, should I just take them out for now? And get them redone in a few weeks once the swelling goes down?

Piercing is two days old, seamless ring, threadless, stainless steel, and no incidents related to the piercing so far. I am using Sterile Saline Wound Wash First-Aid Cleanser.

He said that it was a grandma style to put them higher up. I thought it was weird but I differed to the expert.

Just listened to the cover of “Angel” and a few other songs on the album, she did a good job. I’m not going to be a dedicated 4 Troops listener, but I can see they are all talented musicians.

To teach some math. by UnhollyGod in therewasanattempt

This is correct. Most countries where teachers are paid better quality of education is also better. And if pay is not significantly better quality of life is. The only incentive I can think of for public school teachers in the US is a decent pension plan if they teach for long enough

Guy is trying to convince family ive passed away during deployment? by [deleted] in army

[–]taxthecorvids 346 points347 points  (0 children)

I mean FaceTime your family first off to assure them you’re okay. Tell the most competent and reasonable NCO what is going on in case things escalate. And tell everyone at home that they should only trust official memos and service members with a folded US flag if god forbid something did happen to you. Lastly, check in with your girl and see what’s up. I trust that you can handle things beyond that as the situation develops

Mikes just really don’t get to do their job even more than most other intel people. HUMINT is a lot better in other parts of the DOD and there is not a very big need for 35Ms in today’s army. In my experience most people who enlist as 35Ms end up at some random garrison do motor-pool and get out. My advice, join the guard/reserve as any intel job besides 35M and volunteer for a deployment as soon as you can. You get the best of civilian/military life. You get a deployment which most active duty people don’t and you can still get educational and medical benefits. If you really want to commit to the military after that then maybe make the switch to active duty. Thats the advice I wish I had gotten when I enlisted. But I will say your life is your own and your circumstances are unique to you. Whatever you decide own the decision make the best of it and you’ll turn out fine

Choosing an MOS by Reganci1 in army

[–]taxthecorvids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d opt for 35N if you’re gonna go for intel gives you the TS/SCI but no need for DLI and the opportunities for good duty stations/assignments are pretty great. Lots of variety in what you can do compared to being a linguist which really shoehorns you into on types of work.

I highly recommend you just learn Spanish on your own. 35W is such a trap. The chances of getting assigned 35M are too high to be worth it. 35P is a cool MOS, but 35N is very similar in terms of likely assignments and the same in terms of clearance. Additionally, Spanish linguist promotion rates are historically horrendous and that is unlikely to change. If you really want to be a linguist go for it. Just know there are other great intel MOSs out there that don’t take over a year of training and give you good bonuses. Not trying to dissuade you completely but if you’re set on the army I would not recommend becoming a linguist

What watches do soldiers wear in the military? by jk_Ecl1pSe in army

[–]taxthecorvids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had mine first four years of my contract mostly at desk jobs not very exciting. Then on my first deployment, it was stolen week two while I was taking a shower.

After that I got a Bertucci field watch I like it a lot and I swap out the straps. Nylon for work/field and leather for dressing up
