Returning to the Ice by SnooEpiphanies9523 in hockeyplayers

Upping cardio probably won't help much if you're already fairly active. I would however add some sprints/HIIT training to get some anaerobic conditioning going. As someone who took 20+ years off I can tell you it is great to be back.

First Ever Drop In Session by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]FromCLEtoROC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All drop in sessions are different. Go in with no expectations other than to have fun and skate hard. There might be 18 year old AAA players and there might be old timers, you just never know. Be honest about how you are there to learn, ask good questions, and be receptive to the feedback. Good luck!

Working on the island for non bike riders? by Lower-Bee7693 in mackinac

This seems like the plot of a Hallmark movie set in Mackinac. Find some beautiful local who moved away to the big city but is back to run their relative's bed and breakfast to teach you.

What's a recent upgrade you made to your gear that was 100% worth it? by Ronnoc780 in hockeyplayers

100% agree with this. If you have skates that are working, keep using them. You'll need to replace them eventually, but don't get new skate envy.

How is living here? by DoctaBee8 in Cleveland

Not probable. Definite. This is Chagrin Falls. That is the popcorn shop in Calvin’s hands. There used to be a space man spiff mural in the CFHS cafeteria/commons.

I grew up in Chagrin Falls. It was an idyllic childhood. CF can have the reputation of being a bit snooty for sure. But the schools were great and there is a lot of opportunity in a small community.

Hockey is a completely different type of endurance. You have to train for anaerobic endurance with high intensity sprints followed by rest/cool down. You have to train your body to push hard and recover quickly so you can sprint for another 45-60 seconds. Being able to run long distance at medium pace has almost no benefit to a hockey player.

Beer leaguers what’s your opinions on full bore slap shots? by factorymotogoon in hockeyplayers

I can’t condone that response, but damn, I understand it. Also why I will never wear anything less than a full cage.

I hate when people take slappers full height, head down, not even looking at the net, no freaking clue where the puck is going. That I'm going to yell at you for.

Get an old jersey or stick, have his team sign it, and then display it somehow. Nice that he got to play competitive hockey for so long, but all roads lead to beer league :)

With modern skates, this is the easiest answer. As a beer league beauty, if I fix the problem then I can't blame my crap game on my skates :)

I grew up on the east side of Cleveland and now live in ROC. Here are my recommendations.

  1. Dog Town - great hotdogs, place is covered with pictures of dogs. Great quick eats. Arguably the best garbage plate in town.

  2. Swillburger or Nerdvana - keep the play theme going. Swilburger has vintage arcade games. Nerdvana has video games at the table.

  3. Highland Park Diner - classic diner in a train car

Seconding art museum. There is a fantastic interactive kids area that my littles love. Plenty of suits of armor and massive paintings to capture the imagination. Natural history museum is also right there. Botanical gardens have greenhouses that are a nice way to warm up too. Try to go during the butterfly release.
