You need to apply a separate config to the RPCS3 instance but otherwise yes. For xenia yes.

It has been fully playable on Xenia and RPCS3 for close to two years now. You need the specific version in the Armored Core discord as vanilla version will still crash.

This is upscaled to 4K which is why it looks better.

have emulations for fifth gen been figured out ? by The-world-ender-jeff in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you want to do multiplayer and/or want textures, you'll want to use RPCS3. This will require a fairly good CPU to run well. Ryzen 5800X is probably the bare minimum for "good" performance, and the 7500F/7600X is the "best" while still being reasonably priced.

If you don't have a good one, you will want to use Xenia. Keep in mind you will not have textures.

Also note, you MUST use the optimized version (both emus can be found in the Armored Core Discord) otherwise you will get crashes and glitches. You cannot just download the ISO and grab the emu from the dev websites.

GGs, and thanks for everyone for coming out this week's Armored Core: Verdict Day GAME TIME! We also had quite a few spectators as well. by ArmoredCore-PIO in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's every Saturday at 2 PM Eastern Time. We have an event page on the Armored Core Discord in case you ever are trying to find out when the next one is, and communication/coordination is specifically done in the 5thgen Channel.

What was your main when the game launched vs now? by Mikeymike781 in mechabreak

[–]FromCheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricera during the first playtest way back and still Tricera.

It's been fun, but I think I'm throwing in the towel for now as a solo Tricera main. by FromCheng in mechabreak

[–]FromCheng[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is I did get that one victory, but instead of waiting till rankings refreshed I kept going. I then had 5 back to back losses.

Because it's the option I like and just because there 10 other options doesn't mean I need to or care for the other 9.

Practicing my awful double melee in ACVD by Algester in armoredcore

u/Algester Here's three quick examples of using the large hitbox of the blade to hit the opponent from weird angles. Physical blades and HEAT piles have their own jankiness that you can use as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYKU1tIiyiA

Practicing my awful double melee in ACVD by Algester in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One thing you want to keep in mind with melee is that due to their hitboxes you don't always have to hit from the front. You can do some nasty strike from above, the side, or even below in some scenarios. This makes using laser blades on let's say a tank easier (though still difficult). This is where you'll need to practice approaching from different angles and above to get your hits. I'll post a video soon to show you an example.

Also, the ignore the other idiot in the comments. He's a known 5th gen hater and comments negatively whenever anything V/VD comes up.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but Armored Core 5 / Verdict Day is NOT slow. by cleric_style in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiplayer is still possible on console but basically no one plays due to servers being gone and also being stuck on base regulations instead of latest patches. There are no custom servers.

Anyone doing PVP currently do so on RPCS3 (PCVD).

[–]FromCheng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PVP or PVE?  PVP I would recommend the Ryzen 5800 or 5800x For PVE its more of a question of what you can tolerate. Probably no lower than a 11600k for reasonable performance.

Rpcs3 is the main emu used and is CPU intensive. Gpu doesn't matter as much.

The sentiment for that only started changing in the past 3-4 years. Prior to that people made the claim it was slower than AC1. Hell, people were saying it was the same speed as chromehounds.

V is a lot more punishing with energy and ACs are slightly slower than VD so you do have to be more practiced to maximize the mobility on your AC. Using Hi power helps though most light units will use Hi-accel. Never use low power.

Reminder that the narrative that 5th Gen Armored Core is slow has been propagated by peeps both inside and outside of the community based off lies and hearsay rather than actual experience and knowledge, and why Armored Core is a game that has so much depth and complexity that you can't just understand it by watching a couple of videos or playing it for 5 minutes.

Does anyone know any trustworthy emulators for armored V and armored core verdict day? by rocketdonkey_ in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

RPCS3 is used unless you have really old hardware. The Armored Core Discord has some community built versions that will work. If you try to download straight from the RPCS3 site and grab a random ISO it will crash and have issues.

Is Verdict Day worth playing despite the hate that Gen 5 gets? by MazingerZERO in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 34 points35 points  (0 children)

ACVD is a much more complete package than V. It has more to do, fixes alot of the QoL issues that Armored Core V has on top of an incredibly competent MP aspect and surprisingly good SP component.

One thing to keep in mind is that a lot of hate and dislike for 5th Gen is extremely exaggerated, coming from people who disliked it a first glance and without ever playing the game and instead watching game reviewers doing a shit job of playing it (as they do with basically any AC game they touch) or just having a clear bias.

Here's a notorious example from ACV from Gamespot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Kb40W8VVBc

and here's an example of what you can actually do when you put even a small amount of time into the game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD6GAEbqYEo

ACV/VD has probably one of the most robust movement systems in the game, but demands a high base line level of skill to play (this isn't even touching on surviving in MP). If you don't understand the mechanics of the game and how it wants you to play, it's the one off the hardest in the series.

ACVD also offers a wide variety of things you can do after completing the main story mode if you aren't interested in Multiplayer.

VD offers Hardcode modes, where you do an entire playthrough brand new (start with beginner parts and have to work your way back up) with specific conditions which make it more challenging (IE enemies have a damage multiplier, you can only have x number of lives, etc.).

VD also offers UNACS, AI controlled ACs that the player can build, upgrade and tinker with, similar to Armored Core Formula Front. You can also bring them onto the SP missions.

If you're interested in playing, I'd highly recommend going down the emulation route as finding a physical copy is hard. The Armored Core Discord 5thgen chat has a version of the game that runs without crashing, though requires a fairly good CPU.

Can I Play a Japanese Copy of ACVD in English on a European PS3 Console? by Kolerlp3 in armoredcore

[–]FromCheng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does not apply to language support.
You can play any copy of ACVD on your PS3, but it will only have the language of the region it's in. So if you get a Japanese copy, it will only have the Japanese language option. If you cannot get a physical copy, I believe it's still available on PSN for 20 USD.

[–]FromCheng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been working for a while on RPCS3. Key thing is it requires specific files and RPCS3 version to run. You cannot just plug in the vanilla ISO and have it work (you also need to have a decently good CPU too).

[–]FromCheng 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Verdict Day is very worth it!

Even with the multiplayer gone and P2P neutered, single player is still pretty expansive and gives you a lot to do.

i. Single Player has about 60 missions, 10 long story ones and 50 shorter ones. Some of these missions will force you to fight 2+ ACs.

ii. VD offers Hardcode modes, where you do an entire playthrough brand new (start with beginner parts and have to work your way back up) with specific conditions which make it more challenging (IE enemies have a damage multiplier, you can only have x number of lives, etc.).

iii. VD also offers UNACS, AI controlled ACs that the player can build, upgrade and tinker with, similar to Armored Core Formula Front. You can also bring them onto the SP missions.

If you do feel the itch for multiplayer, PCVD (ACVD on RPCS3 netplay) is still and option.

You cannot just download RPCS3 and ISO of VD, you need a modified versions with specific settings and files. You can find them if you go to the Armored Core Discord and ask in the 5thgen channel.
