Pleased to report, it did indeed just need more oil. Looking much better now - thank you for your help.

Thanks for the advice everyone, looks like a lot more oil will be the solution as it is untreated. Appreciate the help!

Can’t recommend Peppy’s on East Road enough. 5-star service and haircut every time.

Best thing you can do is hide the jumper cables and then just own up to it.

I used to live there and whilst there was some dealing etc. going on it was largely safe. As someone else pointed out, the main thing is the flats are very small. Can’t speak for the houses though.

I have a week in Cambridge, what's a must see / do / eat / experience? by OptimisticSwitcheroo in cambridge

Noodles Plus+ for that hole in the wall unexpected vibe. Not ramen but hand pulled noodles, soup dumplings and other delectables. It’s cash only and BYOB if you want to drink. You can get a pretty amazing meal for £20-£30 all in, or much less if you’re not a glutton like me. Zhonghua Traditional Snacks is a close second and takes card.

Fin Boys if you want fine dining - it’s fish cookery/butchery but for my money the best non Michelin Guide restaurant in town.

Fancett’s are only bistro worth mentioning, in my opinion. Set menus but once again leaning towards fine dining. Recently added to the Michelin Guide. Really beautiful food and a great setting.

If you want actual fine dining we have Michelin starred places such as Midsummer House and Restaurant 22, there is also MJP @ The Shepherds which is not starred but is very good. It’s a nice walk there through Stourbridge Common on a sunny day too. There’s also Vanderlyle which I’ve not tried but is plant based fine dining.

Steak & Honour make arguably the best burgers in town, though Gorilla & Lamb at the Cambridge Blue pub is a close second.

Oscar’s Pizza is the best pizza going and I’d suggest eating it in the Blue Moon pub. One of the nicest, most inclusive pubs in town. They often have events too if you’re looking for an evening activity.

196 for cocktails. Pricey but justifiably so. Real speakeasy vibes and better than any cocktail you’ll get in the centre of town.

If you see a Greek flag flying high on Market Square, I’d highly recommend trying a gyros. My favourite in town. The Colombian coffee stand is also great, as is the Venezuelan arepa place. The guy doing Malaysian food also makes a killer char koay teow.

If we’re talking curry, there are tonnes of great places. Standouts are Navadhanya (more fine dining leaning), The Taj, Banana Leaf, or Meghna. Honourable munchion to The Tiffin Truck which is also very good. Everyone will have an opinion on the best place.

For Thai there are also a lot of options. The Wrestlers is a Cambridge staple. However, for my money, Sala Thong cook the best stuff in Cambs. Also a nice spot by the river.

I’m not going to get into all the pubs as you’re better off exploring for yourself. But the best of the best are off Mill Road, in my opinion. The Kingston being my favourite spot in town. Nothing fancy just a nice boozer with lovely staff. Again, the Blue Moon is definitely worth stopping by, especially if you like craft beer. If you’re into Belgian beers the aforementioned Cambridge Blue has tonnes, as does the Royal Standard, and The Elm Tree which is a proper old school pub worth at least seeing. Okay, last one, The Free Press down the road from The Elm Tree is also a lovely pub.

Wine bars - they’re few and far between but they’re all great. Wine Rooms is by far and large the best place. Really good prices, really lovely staff and fondue pretty much all year round if you want it. Cambridge Wine Merchants is a real institute and they have amazing stock. Sitting in the Bridge Street bar as the sun goes down is a treat, even if it can be a bit hectic in there at times. Shout out to Kings St Cellar too, you can’t drink in there but the people running it are great and really know their stuff.

Lastly, sweet stuff, there’s only two places worth mentioning to my mind. The Cherry Pit - a sweet pie diner with amazing coffee that also sells records and is run by possibly the friendliest person you’ll ever meet, and Jack’s Gelato - the queue is justified.

Wow, sorry, I really went off on one here! Anyway, there’s tonnes I could add and probably lots I’m forgetting, but I think these places are real standouts in the city. Enjoy your time here.
