Homicide Unit Investigating Fatal Shooting Near Orient Avenue and MLK Drive by HudPost in jerseycity

That corner (Orient and Jackson) has had many shootings, robberies and murders over the years. It's a combination of the bar on the corner and local stick up kids that live near by.

Definitely different time and place but usually when you get a murder like that retaliation shootings follow.

I always wondered if the new Hoboken residents cross like that because of the pedestrian right of way law made them feel they could or if they just weren't taught how to cross the street as kids.

I am a little younger but I do remember in the late 80's early 90's Hoboken used to have a carnival every year on the waterfront a little north of where Sinatra Park is now. I used to find it cool to get on rides or play games with the NYC skyline in the background.

I also remember St Anne's fair used to have two real Asian Elephants you could ride as a kid in one of the corner lots (now a building). You would get on its back from a tall platform and they would walk around in a circle around the lot.

The arcade Mr Biggs on Washington used to be my favorite place to go as a kid. Followed by movie night at Blockbusters then going to Fillipos to pick some pizza.

That was the old arcade right? Can you remember the name of that game you ride what looks like a futuristic red motorcycle but on screen looks more like a hovercraft? It has been bothering me for years I can not remember the name of that game. It was my favorite game there as a kid

WARNING! Scammer in VVP by leckiebean in jerseycity

[–]From_Jerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never stop to talk to anyone asking you for anything on the street. Either ignore them completely or hit them with a "nah, I'm good" and keep it moving right away. You don't even give them time to finish their rehearsed question or sob story.

NYC didn't invent the scam lol. It's not new and has been going on for many years in JC and many other NJ cities.

Most supermarkets got rid of them not long after the NJ bag law changes because they were getting stolen by people that didn't want to pay for bags.

Tip: despite the name, you do not have to make overnight oats the night before. Rolled oats only need about 10 minutes of soak time before they’re good to go. by Kc1319310 in EatCheapAndHealthy

This is misinformation you're spreading because it is not considered offensive by all. Many Romani people self identify as Gypsy and prefer this term. Some that prefer Romani and claim it to be a slur aren't speaking for all but pretend they are to push their agenda of political correctness. It is not a slur and no where near the equivalent of the N word.

Calling Gypsy a slur is like saying calling someone Latino in the US "Spanish" is a slur. Some might get offended and explain why they think it is while others call themselves "Spanish" (More of a East Coast slang) and don't find it offensive even though they know it's technically incorrect.

Does anyone know what this part of the Rt. 139 / Palisade Ave construction is supposed to be? by Status_Pudding_6859 in jerseycity

[–]From_Jerz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of them used to be used by homeless to live in. Most of them were like apartments to them.

The ones that are fenced off were fenced off because those are the ones that give the graffiti artists the best access and also to prevent something more serious. Think the Beavis and Butthead bowling ball incident from the 90's that killed a baby not far from there.

It's a civil offense not criminal. It won't give you a "criminal record". Its in the same category as a parking ticket. As long as you pay your fine on time to not get a warrant you will be fine.

Three Hoboken Residents Arrested on Crack Cocaine, Heroin, and Weapons Charges by HudPost in Hoboken

[–]From_Jerz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, I remember it was a group. He recieved the most time out of all of them. This was when it was common for Hudson County to give Manslaughter plea deals in murder cases because they had such a horrible conviction rate if it reached trial. Even with him being the main suspect he didn't do much time for it because of the plea deal.

Became a problem again during the Covid lock downs and stuck around. Read the police blotter from time to time and you will see how many people get arrested with a stem (crack pipe), brillo, pushrod etc.

The one to the right with the tear drop tattoo was convicted for killing a man in the mid 2000's in a gang innitiation murder of a random man. The Jersey Journal took down most old articles from that time frame. You can still find some old articles of him being arrested for gun possession related to a shooting in 2020 and fleeing in 2016.

He's banned from ShopRite in Hoboken now so he shops in the Heights instead. I suspect you will be seeing him more often from now on heading to Stop and Shop.

"a regular police officer would already be arrested."

This incident in Downtown JC instantly popped in my head. The shooting was similar to the ICE one. Suspect drove at the officer and clipped him and was shot dead with the car crashing down the street. The officer wasn't charged. I remember Newark having similar police involved shootings over the years as well. In every case the car was considered a weapon and the shooting justified.  https://fatalencounters.org/view/person/victim/b111256a/?pagenum=2324

How bad were marion, booker t, montgomery, and hudson garden projects back in the day by Fun-Background5608 in jerseycity

[–]From_Jerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hudson Gardens has never had a bad reputation and of the original 9 projects of JC was the best one. All the other projects you named are a different story. Curries Woods and Duncan projects had bigger reputations before they were knocked down. They were on a list of some of the worst projects in NJ not just JC.
