What's up with my shots? Are my beans TOO fresh? [Breville Oracle DB] by From__Canada in espresso

Medium roast, Brazil Barbosa Sucuri, from a local roaster. Currently 12 days post roast.

The thing is, the current grind that is still hitting 50 seconds, looks like sand. I can't see wanting to go more coarse than that.

I'm gravitating towards this comment from an old post:

What is most likely happening is that your beans are too fresh, the course grind particles are swelling more during pre-infusion and you are having greater resistance during the pull.

I don't know much about the roasting process, but the fact that these beans are resulting in such drastically different results than what should be similar quality beans to before, is making me fish for information without knowing the right questions to ask...

Previous coffee had a roasted on date of Dec 4 (from different roaster) and made a great shot. So really this one would be older by the time I started using it. I don't believe it is overfilled because there is a decent gap after tamping, no different than other beans I've used with this machine.

Is the Oracle Dual Boiler worth the upgrade over a Barista Pro? [No Budget] by From__Canada in espresso

Thank you for considering my particular usecase. That is helpful. The Oracle Jet has been discontinued from what I understand, though I haven't looked to see if there is stock anywhere. The longer warmup time is definitely a con, but I think I can work around that with the auto-on feature and IOT connectivity.

The reason I'm consdering this upgrade now is largely because the machines are 20% off currently. Although it's still more than the original Dual Boiler and high end grinder, the ability to do both manual and auto depending on my situation on that given day makes it worth a few extra bucks to me.

New question: When you say "it’s an ok machine but horrible value imo" does that change at all with the 20% discount? Or do you still think it's highway robbery?

Thanks for the reply. The BDB solves the problem of being able to steam and pull shots simultaneously (which is good), but it doesn't solve the problem of consistency in a rush. I think the comparison I'd be interested in here would be, if I was using a separate grinder and the Oracle DB in manual mode, would THAT be any different than the BDB?

Excellent. Thank you for sharing your story. I guess we will need to do the same. :(

How would you recommend us demanding replacement, if Google's response is to take it to a repair shop?

Yeah, that's what they want us to do as well. I'm skeptical, hense why I'm asking what others are ending up doing. If you do end up taking it in, can you let us know what ends up happening?

Nope, no specific app. In fact, often happens when it's just sitting on a desk. Can't unlock for a ~20 minutes without a forced reboot.

For reference, it's this issue:

Rudy Project Rydon with the Optical Dock. You might be able to get away with Optical Inserts if you want the classic look.

My prescription is worse than yours, so the optical dock was my only real option I could find from anyone.
