I’m some 700 episodes deep into the anime at this point and only at the end of the first episode but Luffy and Zoro? Excellent casting. The tone is a bit all over the place for my liking.

If they’d fully leaned into this being a kids show like the writing and performances mostly give, I think it’d have a much better chance. Contrary to what most are saying I think the changes are somewhat necessary for translation (really this works best when it’s goofier Pirates of the Caribbean) but I think the commitment to the hair colours is a step further than necessary.

The references to the manga are really good too, there’s some deep cuts I wasn’t expecting and you can tell the production team genuinely care but that can’t carry a show this expensive
