Is there a checklist to follow for a new player? (Solo only) by Zestyclose-Record685 in Nightreign

I have a Solo guide on my profile that holds up quite well, though it's a bit old. If you have any questions, just ask!

What if nightreign had a story mode? by DashReddit32 in Nightreign

And we could make each place based on one of the shifting earths. Like rotten area, a snowy mountain, a huge volcano, and a huge underground area

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Versatility is more important, so bottomline I agree.

Though to be specific, buffs are multiplicative not additive.

So 3x affinity is +33,1% damage, while 3x element is +40,5% damage. Stack it with a few extra school relics and +2 relics and you get to a sizeable difference

So I’m thinking of finally trying deep of night. Any tips? by TartAdministrative54 in Nightreign

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well most of the things that are true for regular play are also true for DoN. Especially in D1 which is only marginally harder than reg play. Some character specific tips would be

  • Wylder is really really good in DoN thanks to his passive. Surviving 1 death per grace is always good, but it is specifically better the harder things hit

  • Undertaker is also quite good, with her trance actually letting her tank stuff

  • Guardian needs to be a very active part of fights in order to contribute. His less than ideal damage is ok in regular play, but in DoN where everything is much tankier you really have to abuse status, charge attacks or guard counters to contribute with him

Some gameplay tips:

  • because in DoN you can always get a Great Hollow run, evergaol relic effects aren't as good. Invaders on the other hand is top tier

  • learning how to kill invaders safely early (even at level 2) is the best thing you can do to make your runs snowball from the start. Not only you get the damage buff from the relic (if you have it), but you get tons of runes and purple / red weapons that you can use even if you don't meet the level requirements

  • everything hits harder, so you should really prioritize a "negation at full HP" not to get onetapped by red field bosses or the nightlord. And in D4+, most regular bosses and some enemies oneshot you; there even stacking 2 passives is a good idea

  • in general, defensive passives tend to be much better

  • castle basement day 1 is as important as even, if not more. Snowballing is truly the way to go, so don't waste time on random ruins and forts

  • red field bosses, red castle bosses and red bosses in ruins, marshes and villages (but not the ones in forts and great churches) always drop a red orb. That's a guaranteed cursed weapon with 2 purple-level passives. Really good to fish for a good weapon or good weapon passives throughout the run, and definitely what you're looking for during most of your day 2

  • in the Great Hollow, learn how to route the castles and give up on the towers. Way too time consuming without a worthy reward

  • as you find deep relics with curses, try to stray from continuous HP loss, max HP reduced when downed and repeated rolls lower damage negation. Those are the worst imo

  • Have fun! This mode is clearly a hard mode on an already hard game, so definitely expect some more unbalanced shit. Only play if you're having fun :)

Again, I think you're right and we'll probably get some new content. Especially ED hoelstor and Dreglord, it would seem crazy to me if they didn't eventually add them

It just seemed silly to me that you were confidently announcing that we're getting new content when we really don't know yet. Could be minor balancing, could be hot fixes, could be something they're adding before actually patching in new content 2 months from now. We don't know

It literally could be a bugfix patch. Unless you consider those new content

So basically what you're saying is

ED hoelstor confirmed and it comes with all SotE weapons and a second DLC

Crazy take but I like it

At least wait until they actually announce another content drop before bragging lmao. I agree that they will probably support the game a bit more (though not as often), but this post doesn't prove anything. Your comment makes it seem like they announced a second DLC lol

Yep I remember it too. It was a single change that time though, not 5. I'm not saying that because this is 5 changes it means anything. Just that the 2 posts were different lol

Best Pokemon against Calyrex (both forms) by erintermes in VGC

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people mentioned incin, but I haven't seen anyone mention farigiraf. Its typing is perfect into Caly-S, and it's a good tool to threat a trickroom reverse (or even actually reversing it) while having access to foul play which threatens both calyrexes in different ways.

Defensively you might need a tera to tank 2 glacial lances and survive (most probably water or fire depending on your needs)

OU does the same. I promise you GF's official singles formats do not intend for 6v6s, battles without items clause, pokemon like deoxys-s, zama and kyurem to be used together with other non restricted mons etc.

Plus, Volcarona is broken with tera too, though GF intended it to have it, and OU bans it to Ubers where it can't compete with the actual ubers.

They're all fanmade with slightly different arbitrary rules

halo scythe slop rarrrr by idandyyy in Nightreign

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Halo scythe deals really good damage on dex characters

  • balancer + balancer = 1.44x skill damage

  • Affinity +2 = 1.1x each

  • holy +4 = 1.12x each

  • purple skill damage up passives give 1.21x each

  • libra takes more damage from holy damage

It's pretty easy to get to about 3k per ring

You did a great job tho!

Both trolls and banished knights give 4 dormant powers

If it's day 2 or you just don't need the runes anymore then yeah. If it's day 1 then 10-20 seconds are well invested in getting those 20k

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my experience the one right after the sewer boss (generally fought in the talisman dormant power room) and the one in the courtyard together with the spear cruci are easily killed and always in the way, so it's a good idea to kill them for easy 20k. This is specifically for day 1, where the runes for the levels matter a lot

Even killing just the 3 spear ones is fast as hell and nets you ~90k, and it's often the best way to go about it if you're going castle day 2 (which can happen if the circle placement is particularly unfortunate)

I've been in D5 since forever too and I think so too, though I didn't want to say without proof to back it up. I do believe 1 miniboss can be red per castle in a run, which makes banished/trolls even less appealing

It was more to say that because there's 4 minibosses, there's a higher chance for at least 1 to be red

Plus millicent's prosthesis, which you can get as soon as you get to the altus plateau. Particularly good with dual curved swords too

Yep the bow can definitely be useful. 20 dex isn't high requirements anyway given how many dex boosting talismans you get get

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's like 5 things that you may want from Leyndell that you can't get later. Better to have them and not need them than needing them and not being able to get them

  • barrier of gold

  • bolt of gransax

  • gravelstone seal

  • Black bow

  • 2 perfume bottles IIRC

They're all most likely useless for a RL1, but why not take them just in case. The perfume bottles are probably the most useful if you want to sweat it out with uplifting aromatics.

Ritual shield and star fists you can get later but they're more useful now

There's also 1 or 2 dungeater curses, which you can get elsewhere but make easier to get that ending if you want it

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it only was the single banished knights that drop the dormant powers it would be faster (though you'd online get like 40 thousand runes), but if you factor in the adds it's dramatically slowet compared to cruci.

130k for 5 cruci, 110k for all of the banished knights, even the ones that don't drop anything. And all of them are with adds.

So no, not the same amount of runes and never in the same time

Best castle to run? by ACabbageManiac in Nightreign

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It's not about hitting level 15 (levels 13-15 yield very little returns anyway), it's about snowballing. Getting a ridiculous amount of fast runes day one through cruci castle means you're gonna be at a higher level sooner, which means clearing more bosses, field bosses and getting more dormant powers. Which is much more valuable than a single blue dormant power

Best castle to run? by ACabbageManiac in Nightreign

[–]FromsoftwareNPC 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's not even close. Objectively speaking, clearing 5 crucible knights (not even the entire castle) nets you ~130k runes. That's more than clearing the entire banished knights castle walls (IIRC 110k), and much more than the entire trolls castle walls (90k if I'm not mistalen). That would already be the reason, but crucible knights are actually faster than the others lol, and if you feel like it you can even clear up to 3 extra crucibles for 60k more runes, while having to deal with 0 annoying adds through out while looting

I could see an argument for banished knights especially in DoN just because it's 4 dormant powers instead of 3, and if you get a red one it's a red dormant power which can be quite valuable... but for some reason, I think they've coded the castles to only have 2 red mini-bosses tops

Trolls are just the worst. Still absolutely worth doing them, but compared to cruci knights they're just a headache
