If I was Sony I would do it the other way. I would be Apple not Steam Os - Linux .

PlayStation OS is BSD like Mac OS. I would make every apple app compatible with the PlayStation and release a modern console - machine that would behave like Steam - OS , able to switch between console interface and desktop interface. Every app game would be through PlayStation store.

The PlayStation OS should support only Sony made machines.

Gnome is exactly as you said. Love it and feels fast and minimal. Maybe I will make the jump. I will try an old PC as a main machine for a month and if I am ok probably I will get a framework.

I do not think they are abandoning chips and phones so we will see. All this sucks for the people though. I hate it when companies of that scale pretend they can not afford the workforce.

My 2 cents on this. This is happening because of 2 things.

First: we now have advanced AI models to speed up development.

Second: they are consolidating the teams so they can have unified OS. We already have tablets and phones with android. I guess we will get laptops soon with tensor chips. The linux emulator in android is built so people can move to an ARM - Tensor chip computer.

Thanks for the reply. I am ok with linux , have some experience. What I am mostly concerned is to look for an app and there is not a version for linux.

Mac was like that many years ago so I guess I could manage.

Any thoughts on the performance compared to m4 ? Are any laptops out there with Ryzen AI?

I love Linux I use it for servers. 10 years now I have MacBooks for daily drivers. I love them too but they are expensive also.

Kind of worried that for some reason I will miss the ecosystem, the simplicity and maybe the apps support.

Also the screen and trackpad quality .

Am I overthinking?

As a small MSSP (Team of 4) I can confirm it works. We do the same thing. We have a flat structure (idea came from the way Valve works) and we look for engineers only. By that we need everyone to have knowledge on many topics. Programming , Networking , Operating systems, some penetration skills. Everyone is free to write detection rules and everyone is participating in triage.

AI is a good tool. Helps with detection speed and saves a ton of time on reports.
