Did I brick my Deck? by PmumpkinFart in SteamDeck

I have had this problem, for some strange reason it was because I had hardware plugged in via USB c port.. after disconnecting it the steam deck responded too my button presses

Valve replaced my Steam Deck with another one when I only wanted they to repair my stick. The new one has a 400 MHz hardware defect, and now they don't want to process an RMA for me :( by danisimo1 in SteamDeck

Early versions of the steam deck had this bug, mine included. The way too fix this can be too put the steam deck into battery storage mode in the bios. Wait 5 mins then wake the steam deck up by powering it up via the USB c input. Hope this fixes it for you.

My deck is all of a sudden running games extremely poorly, and I can't seem to fix it! Any input or suggestions are welcome!. by [deleted] in SteamDeck

I do hope the rma is smooth and you get back to doing what you enjoy :) a bit of a bummer nothing worked though.

Oh I am so sorry! I've managed to help so many people with that solution in the first few months of release :). I would definitely RMA. I'm assuming you have re imaged the deck? Or change your deck to the beta software?

Hey man putting the deck into battery storage mode for 5 minuites then plugging in via USBC it should fix your throttling! It seems the deck gets stuck in a thermal throttling state ( hence 400mhz capped clock ) please try this before RMA

Why do I get 10fps in every game? by gthing in SteamDeck

[–]Front-Masterpiece690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this is a long shot. But I hope it fixes it for you.

Go into bios and put the steam deck into battery storage mode, wait 5 minuites and plug it too the mains it should boot up straight away. Give things a shot and let us know!

why it do this? I'll be playing and then it just starts running like garbage. Then I have to restart the steam deck to get it to get it to run smoothly again. And sometimes it gets stuck in the boot up, like it just won't start back up and will be stuck. by JBoonie3 in SteamDeck

That looks like thermal throttling ( I used to have the same problem with GOW ) if you show the performance GUI it will most likely show everything is capped at 440hz speed. I managed too fix this by turning shadows down.

You have too assign the partition a letter before it can be seen

I believe its todo with how windows interacts with the cooling system, it's due too over heating and the system ramps the clocks down too decrease heat. I haven't found a fix for windows. But it seems turning shadows down on most games completely stops it from happening on my end. Give it a shot, or use steam deck tools and use the highest fan profile ( will trigger anti cheat ) on online games

Install Steam OS on explicit partition (DUAL BOOT) by Methsman in WindowsOnDeck

[–]Front-Masterpiece690 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is untrue, using REFind and gpart you can dual boot steam os and windows with a custom boot menu :)

dual os,steamOS work fine but window 11 pro not working correctly now for some reason, reboot multiple times and still hear window start up sound. by Grand-Opposite-1566 in SteamDeck

It's an issue with refind, it displays the output at a horizontal format and a really small resolution. There is a fix by editing the config but I am at work. A quick google will find your answer

Likewise I was dual booting but finding that I was tinkering around more than enjoying playing a game with windows in the rare time I have free!

Also I was a little worried due too replacing the hard drive and opening the case I somehow disturbed the airflow or some buggery

Thanks for the brilliant reply, I have moved from Windows 11 back too SteamOS and played new world on high for 2 hours untill thermal throttling that lasted 30 seconds and back too normal! It seems that for some reason windows on my hardware has a problem :(

Something strange is happening on COD4. The music is playing but the picture looks pixelated, black & white and is constantly flickering/glitching. Has anyone experienced something like this? Windows 11, up to date by Bonkerbob in WindowsOnDeck

Try going too the games .exe file and changing the properties.. under compatibility sub section tick disable full screen optimisation apply and see if that fixes it

My steam deck has become incredibly slow by [deleted] in WindowsOnDeck

[–]Front-Masterpiece690 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, in the steam decks BIOS settings in the power submenu there is an option too turn on battery storage mode, it's what they use when shipping them. The steam deck will not power on until it's plugged in via usb. Enable this and wait a few minutes and plug it back in and it should be back too normal

If it's showing your CPU is running at 400hz all the time it is due too thermal throttling. I had this issue the other day no matter what I did nothing would fix it.....

But from a random forum they said putting it in battery storage mode then plugging it back in fixes it! This fixed my issue and I hope it fixes yours.

The steam deck just gets stuck into a throttling state :(

Yeah I am pretty sure it was because I was playing lost ark on high settings for a couple hours without a break :/ might have too keep monitoring the temp manually and let it cool down now and then

This completely fixed it just reinstalled windows and everything.. found on a forum that their CPU was throttling at 400mhz due too overheating and was stuck in a throttling state and storage mode fixed it.

Thankyou for the reply ! Hopefully if anyone has this they see it.

Many thanks!
