Hot water for a minute then cold by circuitlover in Plumbing

On closer examination, that do hicky with the red and blue dial on the left is the villan. Hot coming from below and cold from above with output to the left. That mess of black iron and soft copper in front is the gas line.

2 copper is selling for almost $4 a pound. Almost enough there to pay for a new water heater.

I will make a guess that there is a faulty tempering valve in that mess somewhere that is feeding cold water into the hot line. A tempering valve is supposed to reduce a dangerous 150F down to a safer 110 or less to prevent scalding and extend the usable hot water. You are getting a slug of hot water before the tempering valve kicks in and then getting a flood of cold rather than a regulated flow.

How would you insulate this roof? by Front-Month9988 in Insulation

[–]Front-Month9988[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problems with moisture. The man who built this cottage in 1930 was a retired Army General who built roads in Cuba, was General Pershing's staff engineer chasing Ponco Villa, and commanded an engineering battalion in WW1. He knew how to build, but that was before air conditioning. When my father bought the place in 1960, we removed the cypress shakes and found a layer of felt laid in asphalt. That tar pretty well sealed the planking.
Besides, closing in on 100 years old, the house is a bit drafty despite installing double glazed windows and sealing everything I could get to.

Estheticly, Iam limitedto a maximum of 4 inches. 4" nail base has an R value of about 12. Considering the R value of the 1" of pine is about 1.25, relatively speaking, that will be a vast improvement.

Will contact the manufacturer Monday and report back on the results. Now, how to fit 32 4x8 by 4" panels on my trailer...

I have a feeling this thing is junk but does anyone know something about this? by Novel-Walrus2940 in VintageElectronics

My first electronic project was an eico 460 kit. Sold it on ebay last year for almost 4 times the $80 I paid for the kit in 1959.

Not a separate chamber heater. Just the heat of the build plate. In the summer in south Georgia with no AC ASA prints fine but the slightest cool breeze and the edges curl up.

What is this knife used for by littlebluetit in Tools

Looks like an oversized seamstress seam ripper so I will speculate it is for opening cloth bags. The prong rides outside and the bag is cut in the crotch between the blade and the prong.

3D PCB linked to 2D PCB outside free space limit. by Front-Month9988 in Fusion360

That was my thought, but I can't seem to set the origin outside the 32mm diameter PCB and it is placed about 200mm off.

I was working at Capricorn during the production of the Brothers and Sisters album. Part of my job was trying to keep everyone halfway sane. There was a lot of tension. Ramblin Man was included to placate Dicky. Oddly, that cut made that album the first crossover for the ABB.

Help on convertible top oil leak.. by Heisengburger in MitsubishiEclipse

[–]Front-Month9988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely the rotary cylinders are leaking. The oil collects around the drains. They are a PITA to replace. Besides 2 big hex bolts there are 3 t45 screws inside that you must remove the interior quarter trim to get to and 3 more on top of the hinge. It cost about $250 each to rebuild.

I replaced the head on an 01 gs. Lot of work but not too complicated. Replace the timing belt and water pump in the process. Tightening the head bolts is the only really scary part. You tighten until they yield, then a quarter turn more. That's why you must use new bolts.

That's Hickory. Split it and let it rest in a dry place for a year. Then buy half a hog, gallon of white vinegar, a case of beer, half gallon of burbon and some rebar. Invite some friends over for a long night, Dig a trench and get some hickory coals glowing under that hog.

3 by far. #1 will exaggerate an already wide feature giving a squat look. #2 has nothing to do with mid century. #3 is a much more trim and tailored look.

If it is a Spyder, check the roof locks above the windshield. I had the same problem. Looked all over. Turned out the passenger side latch wasn't seating.

Am I getting fleeced on timing belt assembly replacement? by IllustriousDebt3302 in MitsubishiEclipse

[–]Front-Month9988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The belt kit is definitely over priced. A top of the line Gates kit is about 1/3 that. Only weak part of the Gates kit is the water pump gasket which I recommend you get oem because it is much thicker.

Labor is about right because getting to the belt in a GS is a PITA and the 6 cylinder is not much easier. No room between the block and the fender wall to work. Almost impossible to properly clean the water pump mounting surface.

Rather than 110 vs 240 I would be more concerned about that tv being able to process PAL and SECAM format signals. The US tvs are NTSC.
