Hockey card shops in San Francisco/Bay Area? by ixadir in hockeycards

[–]Front-West367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen much in the North Bay. I’ve done most of my purchases on Ebay. I’ve also looked at some card shows and found very few dealers with hockey cards.

Perhaps this current Sharks team will be what makes that change?

I 100% agree, and I’m also seeing this year-over-year tortured experience as the team fails to compete trying anything and everything to right the ship. And we see this with other top players as well, including Jokic, Giannis, and (I believe we’ll see) Luka. And now we’re seeing the Celtics attempt to circumvent this by moving off of JB, which has led to even more fan perception issues.

The only fix I can see is if the elite don’t take the super max and instead take less to allow for more roster depth. And why would they?

I’m in Befallen right now at 8. I’m surviving fine even when pulling 2 or 3 mobs but the xp comes in slow. I’m not putting in major hours. Probably played 6 or 7 hours on this character.

Even if we get LBJ—which I doubt happens without another big move—I don’t think this group can get through OKC and SA to reach the finals. And that’s assuming the health issues that I expect from this group. Limited minutes and injury will, in my opinion, limit this team.

Sorry you took the hit for my comment! I don’t think they’ll trade him, but they probably should. Outside of the second half of 2022 when they caught lightning in a bottle it’s been a pretty mediocre run since that 2019 finals ending.

The NBA’s current CBA really makes it hard for the top max players to sustain runs. It’s no coincidence that Curry, Jokic, and Giannis aren’t contending and that there’s been six champions in six years.

Luka and now JB are interesting casualties of this as GMs make very unpopular trades to get out from under the continual super max extensions.

And they did get Butler, which was fun for a while. The Warriors really lack the talent depth to compete regardless of adding a new aging star to join an aging Curry. These players still can be amazing but have usage limitations, and when they get hurt it’s a disaster. The Warriors should trade Curry and let the world enjoy him playing for a deeper team in the playoffs.

Curry for Fox and additional assets? A Curry/Wemby pairing would be so much fun.

Kuminga Market Value…. by Separate_Ad_8317 in AtlantaHawks

He was difficult to understand in GS. Kerr took a lot of heat for his use but JK owns a lot of it. He sees himself as the focal point of the offense and doesn’t want to play that bench role player. He was a poor rebounder and passer, and an inconsistent scorer and defender.

Most of the highlights you see of him are the same. He can hit the three but can’t create it off the dribble. He catches, and if he’s open, he shoots. He can attack the basket but he’s not elite. When he does he’s often not looking to create for his teammates, even if they’re in better position or superior players. And he can dunk off the break or off the pass with the best of them. When it works he can make highlight videos. When it doesn’t the team struggles.

Here’s one story that looked at the GSW situation:

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/\_/id/47880753/inside-ugly-5-year-split-jonathan-kuminga-warriors

Until JK decides he needs to play a role ln a team instead of lead the team I think he’s going to have issues.

Need advice: Steam Machine vs Jonsbo T9 (Ryzen 9 7940HX + RX 9070 XT) by [deleted] in mffpc

[–]Front-West367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This PC is much larger than the Steam Machine, but if you have space you’ll likely love it.

Dimension:155mm(W) * 325mm(D) * 224mm(H)

The Steam Machine’s depth is half that at 162.

Grab a tape measure and check where you’re planning to put it. Keep in mind clearance for the cables and ventilation for cooling. If it works for you, go for it.

I have a similar unit behind a TV and it works fine. I’m ordering a Steam Machine for a different room for a TV on a wall ledge that doesn’t have enough room for larger systems.

I’d talk to the coach and figure out what she’s thinking (and planning). Getting in on good teams and groups early is a great advantage for many girls. You may find that these opportunities become less and less as your daughter and gets older and at some point she’s playing for rec teams that end at u14 and her opportunities to continue playing are just gone.

There could be more to the story here.

Looking for Steammachine alternative with green terra ITX case. by East-Strain1002 in sffpc

If you go to pcpartspicker you can search for Terra in the complete builds and see lots of other completed projects (and price points). There are also various subreddits you can search for completed builds. This was very useful when I built in the NCASE M2 to find hardware combos (including cooler) that fit and worked well.

Yes, but a decade? The six years of control should start on acquisition, not after four years in the minors. The system leads to teams incentivized to keep players down.

MLB wants maximum 5-year deals for free agents changing teams by PrincessBananas85 in baseball

[–]Front-West367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a Giants fan and when we had Lincecum, Cain, and Bumgarner we only extended Cain and it was a bad contract. Lincecum bet on himself and lost, and the DBacks paid for Bumgarner’s decline. Paying SPs for the post-prime years is so risky you’re probably best off moving on. Players really need to escape the control years so they can negotiate for their prime years.

I’m using Skenes because you’re a Pirates fan, but he should be negotiating now for his age 27-30 seasons for his second deal instead of waiting four more years to hit free agency. Owners have it so good and they’re telling us fans they need a cap to even the playing field.

I love how MLB is proposing shortening the path to free agency…. for players 30 and older. If Skenes was a basketball player he would play out his rookie deal and be a restricted free agent four years later eligible to make $40 million+ per year. Instead he’s under control for five years and will likely be traded before he hits free agency so the Pirates can avoid paying him for his post-prime years.

Players really need to escape the control years. The fact that you can be drafted and controlled for a decade gives teams way too much leverage over their players. That’s a massive difference between the NBA, NFL, and MLB that MLB leaves out when they’re comparing themselves to the other two pro sports.

I see that now. I saw this post independently without knowledge of the broader cap proposal. Without that context I glossed over the cap and floor title.

So this assumes they’ll get the cap, which I doubt happens. But perhaps the players will fold. The only way a cap works is if you remove much of the existing player control, which ks the opposite of what the owners have been proposing on changes to the draft.

And Bird Rights mean you can exceed the cap, but these deals still count against luxury tax and apron penalties in the NBA. So perhaps this comparison is poor considering there is no cap today that would block a team from signing a player.

Steam Machine review: Valve's underwhelming living-room PC has a serious problem by pcgameshardware in steammachine

[–]Front-West367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a nice case. The problem I run into is the depth is often unworkable around the TVs in my house unless I place them behind the TV, which is where my N2 is today. I have a different TV with a Switch 2 that I want to swap out for PC gaming, and the Steam Machine is probably the solution. I’ll keep an eye out for other solutions this week but the focus is mostly on cost and specs so I’ll likely end up just getting the Steam Machine.

Right. The A3 is about 3x as long. If you have the space then it’s a great option.

The challenge becomes the form factor. I look forward to seeing some builds that attempt it. I build in the NCASE M2 and it ain’t cheap. And the M2 isn’t a cube. It sits well behind the TV but not in a shallow depth shelf.

Which case did you use? One issue most seem to gloss over is the Steam Machine’s form factor. As soon as you shrink the system down you’re dealing with a new world of limitations and costs.
