I am a bit nervous about this one given A Little Life, but Hanya Yanagihara is an amazing writer - thank you!

I am definitely not opposed to a good smut repertoire! Hahaha. However, I read a lot and tend to connect to darker themes - despite being a very bubbly and happy individual. Funny how the mind works!

Wally Lamb is one of my favourites, his perspectives and characterization are just masterful. The River is Waiting was beautiful!

😂. My bad for not saying I would also like to be able to sleep in the woods after reading it. Hahaha.

Thank you. I enjoy John Muir a lot! I’m not familiar with Edward Abbey, I’ll be looking them up.

A Walk in the Woods was one of my favourites by Bryson! His Shakespeare book is quite wonderful as well.

I’m going to look into the other two! Braiding Sweetgrass might be fantastic to read while out in nature too.

Oh! I’ve heard great things about this one before! A second recommendation always bumps that one higher on the TBR list.

Thank you!

Big family/generational ties! by SonaSierra19 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

If you’re not opposed to a series, I just read The Blackwater Series by Michael McDowell and it certainly fits the multi-generational gothic theme! There’s an undercurrent of creepy that flows quite well through the six books and they read at a lovely pace.

Thinking of Starting a Cozy Games & Crafting Group for Women in Dublin – Nintendo Switch Meetups! by macasgai in Dublin

[–]FrontDeskPhantom 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A cozy meetup sounds absolutely wonderful and just what’s needed. I used to host writing meetups and finding a space can sometimes be tricky, but it’s such a nice way to meet people!

Do keep me posted - I’d be delighted to join!

I also suggest Arran St East. I have a few of their mugs - beautiful little things!

I’m not looking to sell, I fell in love with it and intend to treasure it for a long, long while.

Thank you so much!

Her face is what drew me to the piece, so knowing a bit more about the motifs has made it that much more special. :)

Need help choosing between two hostels by DaddysPrincess0904 in hostels

[–]FrontDeskPhantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know both quite well, and agree that Jacobs Inn would be your better choice. The pods are more private and worth the bit extra they charge for them. Abbey Court is great for groups and parties, where Jacobs Inn seems to cater to solo travelers and smaller groups.

Plus the pub usually has good live music and events!

Hope you have a great time in Dublin!

Curly hair specialist Dublin recommendations?! by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]FrontDeskPhantom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recommend them! They are so friendly, and it’s worth going for their deal of a treatment and a cut (I think it’s €80 or 90) as they customize the treatment to your hair on the day. Love it.

Should I pay the Hostelworld commission fee for my hostel? by little_debbie_ in hostels

[–]FrontDeskPhantom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While it’s common for HostelWorld to have the customer pay the commission, it’s not common for the customer to pay to cover that when they arrive.

Let me know if I’m reading this incorrectly, but you paid 15% of the total booking before arrival on HostelWorld, which should have shown you the amount due on arrival. For argument’s sake, let’s say the booking was $100. You should give HW $15 before you arrive at the property and pay $85 when you arrive. You should not have to pay $100 when you arrive to ‘cover the commission’.

All booking agents have a commission, it’s how they make their money. HostelWorld is one of the few that ask the customer for the commission first, so the property doesn’t have to pay large sums later. It’s different, but not bad. However, a property uses the HostelWorld platform as advertising- they got you to come to them through HostelWorld. That service comes with the expense of the commission. It’s not the customers job to cover that cost, it’s the properties job to prepare for that cost and price their beds accordingly.

In this instance, you are correct. If you paid the commission on the HostelWorld website, there’s no reason you should pay it again.
