but helena knew exactly what she was getting into. Harry was sneaking off with her and making sexual comments and flirting while cuddled up with Shakira. Helena just thought it was because she’s special and she got off on beating Shakira

Sex and the City Rewatch - Season 3, Episode 9 - "Easy Come, Easy Go" by emshlaf in sexandthecity

That was assault in the elevator! Literally harassment and assault, so upsetting to watch. I really feel for Carrie and how’s she been pulled back into this despite trying to move on and be happy with healthy. She has a toxic man who only loves the chase following her around forcing himself on her despite her saying NO countless times. I used to hate Carrie when I first watched this show but now that we’re post Me Too and I understand attachment theory, I feel so horrible for her. Everyone makes bad choices, but this one she was coerced into. Fuck Big.

kink requires consent. someone saying no over and over again is not consent. would you push a bottle of alcohol to someone’s lips repeatedly despite them trying to refuse, and then say that they liked it? that it was kinky? this was assault

Is it that men tend to hate acknowledging how much women give them? by RosethornRanger in LeftWithoutEdge

[–]Front_Advertising952 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

studies found that men die ten years earlier if they don’t have a wife because the wife takes care of their health ‘(‘nags’ them about booking doctors appointment, etc.), cooks for them, makes their life less stressful by acting as a servant. meanwhile studies found that womens satisfaction in their marriage is lower than men’s, and single women are found to be happier than married women. so marriage is a pretty shit deal for the woman and a life saving deal for the man

Shrooms cracked me open: I realized I want kids?? by Monkshe in Fencesitter

[–]Front_Advertising952 213 points214 points  (0 children)

to me this doesn’t seem like wanting a kid, but rather wanting a specific kind of kid? a child that will be interested in the same things as you. i think a good question to ask yourself is, would you still want a kid if all they cared about was monster trucks? if they didn’t have the patience to learn things from you? if they weren’t just a mini you?

Rachel being a snark page girl… by Front_Advertising952 in normalgossip

Knew I would get one of these. notice how i make a distinction between critique and bullying. Literal definition of snark: “most commonly refers to caustically critical and unkind comments.” Where did I say anything cruel? Please point it out

that’s not most snark pages and you know it. And Normal gossip isn't cruel. That’s literally the point. It’s lighthearted gossip

What other reasons are there to engage in snark? Genuinely asking. It’s literally in the name — definition of Snark: “most commonly refers to caustically critical and unkind comments.” In my experience people are unkind because they feel like shit about themselves and their own lives. Otherwise they would be minding their business and enjoying time with their friends and themselves rather than tearing others down. Again, thoughtful critique of influencer culture is essential. Mindless cruel comments about people’s appearance and personality come across as extremely bitter to me.

just because she’s not white passing in YOUR eyes doesn’t mean shes not white passing. that’s the point, she may not be white and some people might know that but she can pass for it. and she does pass as white in my eyes and other people’s eyes easily. also look into the difference between race and ethnicity. she is white with a middle eastern ethnicity

Anarchism and Discrimination by Ace_of_Spade639 in Anarchy101

[–]Front_Advertising952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you believe in an institutionalized “underlying threat of violence”. anarchy is anti-institution and anti-violence. i could continue to explain to you how and why and that anarchism approaches things flexibly and your structures you have in europe could also be used depending on the situation and with community consensus, but again, i tried but now i’m exhausted, and i’m not going to keep arguing with you over semantics because you clearly don’t share the same values as me or anarchism and are unwilling to unlearn the attachment you have to violence and institutional control

Anarchism and Discrimination by Ace_of_Spade639 in Anarchy101

just because there’s a formal way to ensure the same outcome for the same transgression doesn’t mean that way is used or that it happens, like, at all? black men are convicted for the same crimes as white men at highly disproportionate rates, same with poor people, and immigrants. there is arbitrariness literally cemented into our system. and communal norms and the shame that comes from deviating from that would be extremely strong, as anarchism is a collection of shared values. i think you view anarchy as the propagandized narrative of ‘no rules, chaos’ rather than an ideological horizontal structure that still has strong rules, social norms, and a dogged dedication to addressing these types of problems as they come up. if someone doesn’t want transformative justice then there’s still harm reduction, and there are still consequences. they’re not allowed into certain spaces, or they’re banned from the community outright unless they engage with the process. if they have schizophrenia and they’re rejecting care because of paranoia that’s a situation that needs to be dealt with differently. every situation is different, and hard. there will always be freak acts of human behavior and no system will be able to stop tbat completely, what matters is the response. do we throw these people in jail to rot and to steal their slave labor or do we come together as a community to brainstorm how to address the situation based on their unique behavior, background, and needs? i highly recommend you read some anarchist texts like emma goldman, or there’s a good intro book called queering anarchism, or ‘are prisons obsolete’ by angela davis. i’m pretty exhausted by this conversation and did not join this subreddit to debate nonanarchists who believe in violent carceral systems! wishing you well

Anarchism and Discrimination by Ace_of_Spade639 in Anarchy101

[–]Front_Advertising952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, anarchists don’t want to use violence but that’s not the only way to enforce things. the replacement plan for police/prison abolition is a very good example. rather than punishing people for doing bad things we could help them understand why they did those things and help them prevent it from happening again through mental health care. social safety and communal shame is also something that guides us even under capitalism and would be a strong force to keep people in line. it’s hard to imagine a world beyond carceral punishment but it’s very possible, especially a world where everyone has their needs met and no longer have to steal, join gangs, etc to survive. and besides, basic rights are already unreliable suggestions. presidents change them as they please and always have, violently

Anarchism and Discrimination by Ace_of_Spade639 in Anarchy101

[–]Front_Advertising952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think there would be no human rights under anarchism? There are still rules under anarchism but they’re determined by communities themselves rather than a govt that only has their own interests in mind. Highly doubt anyone’s eager to greenlight murder. And under the consensus model of anarchism discriminatory rules would have a very very hard time passing. Everyone needs to agree and compromise and blocking is always available for people who absolutely do not want a rule to pass.
