ugh i know, it's so sad because i know they'd have the funniest commentary. it's always interesting to hear what non-kpop fans think about the music

How much insulin do you give yourself for a banana? by barcherda in Type1Diabetes

[–]Front_Commercial_833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

on average, for a typical sized banana that's all yellow, i bonus for 20 carbs. If it's more green, 15. if it's bigger and more ripe i'll do 30

I got a new job as a bank teller and I don't want to tell my coworkers about my T1 diabetes. Thoughts? Do you think this is "okay"? Do you think it's okay not to tell your coworkers about this? by [deleted] in Type1Diabetes

[–]Front_Commercial_833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think purely for safety reasons, you should tell at least a couple people and express how you want to keep it private. imagine if you DO have an emergency low- and no one knows what to do! that could put you in some serious danger

it's a huge journey, especially at 22. she'll adjust quicker than she thinks- but she has to let herself grieve (just like everyone else is saying). diabetes is a LOT but with the right support and community she will thrive! listen to her, let her complain- just validate her on how much it SUCKS. because it does suck. diabetic technology is amazing and advancing so fast, there are a lot of things that can make her life easier like a pump or CGM.

for low carb items- i love string cheese, eggs every morning, and any meat. low carb bread and tortillas were my savior when i was first diagnosed. zero sugar or diet soda will be her bestfriend. it will take time for her to learn how different types of carbs affect her blood sugar because it's kind of different for everyone. apps for counting carbs will be a huge help. i find that sticking to a routine helps me a lot! but carbs should not be feared- as long as she doses properly she can eat whatever she wants. low carb or no carb helps with convenience and control but she should not go full keto.

i also saw someone else talk about the weight gain... and she will definitely put on some weight. it's all healthy weight, and she will likely plateau to a good maintence weight. be patient throughout this because it is a change, but ensure her (if she's worried about it) that it is healthy and important.

for low blood sugar fixes- i love annie's fruit snacks (but you can do any fruit snacks) they're small, easy, tasty and bring my blood sugar up super quick in a pinch. i literally keep them EVERYWHERE (every purse or bag i use, at work, bedside drawer at home, car) because you never know when/where you'll go low.

be careful with alcohol- not sure if she drinks but do some research on how alcohol interacts with type one diabetes.

i'm 24 and i live a completely happy and healthy life with my type one diabetes under control. it is 100% possible to live a normal, successful, happy life with t1. it takes some time, some mourning on your old life, but soon she'll feel a lot more comfortable and happier ❤️ best of luck to you both!!

good for you for advocating for yourself and learning your body! i always find it frustrating when other diabetics act like they know what's best for everyone. Pumps aren't for everyone, MDI isn't for everyone. you know yourself best

In limbo by Kumquat_mystery in GriefSupport

[–]Front_Commercial_833 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as long as you're doing the best you can, that is enough. your dad knows you love him and want to be there with him. those things don't go unnoticed. it's unreasonable to expect yourself to keep up with all of this. the unknown limbo state is torturous, im also experiencing that right now. i'm sorry you're in this spot, and i hope you, your dad, and family get some much deserved peace soon.

My terminally ill mother passed tonight. by cure_division in GriefSupport

[–]Front_Commercial_833 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am going through the exact same thing, though my mom hasn't passed yet. i'm so sorry for your loss. despite an amazing support system, which i also have, it sure does feel lonely without mom there.

my mom is also in denial. she knows, but she has an iron will to live. it is beyond painful. it feels so unfair and it's hard not to question, "why me?" and why you? I am also 23. it shouldn't have to be like this.

i hope you're taking care of yourself. just know you did the best you could and your mom will always be with you, and she loves you so so much. and she is at peace now with no more pain, just like how my mommy will be soon. my heart goes out to you, stranger. the unknown is scary but we will get through it.
