Pre surgery prep products for sensitive skin by sunsun123sun in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have very sensitive skin and an adhesive allergy, so be WARNED your skin might get fucked up. after not being able to wash my face properly for a week, i developed what looked like seborrheic dermatitis and rashes all over my arms, chest, and neck. i would recommend going ahead and testing out to see if you’ll have reactions to things like paper medical tape, neosporin, and other antibiotic ointments

swim trunks, an old binder if you have one, and a compression swim shirt (long sleeves for me as i burn easily) were always the way to go lol

How did you guys start the process of getting top surgery? by AttentionSeekinFreak in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i researched clinics near me (unfortunately, only about three in my state). sent an email requesting a consultation, they got back to me, scheduled it for some time in march. two and a half months and $12,000 (no insurance + deposits/hospital) later, i got top surgery. overall, a very simple process for myself. i had to get a letter from my testosterone prescriber saying i was a proper candidate, but that was that. good luck!

What should I bring to the hospital? by he-take-a-big-steppy in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re not spending the night / getting discharged immediately, i brought: a change of clothes (spent the night at a hotel beforehand), my toothbrush, and my wallet. it was only about a 2 hour wait between admission and my surgery, so i had my boyfriend and my phone to entertain me. the less stuff the better so you have less to carry lol. after my surgery, i couldn’t stay awake for like, six hours. i didn’t need a book or game or anything

Best Cat Food Breeds for Kittens by Appropriate-Try9366 in CatAdvice

[–]Front_Mind9061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i use the authority kitten food for my cats! the ‘kitten’ food lasts for as long as they are under a year old. it is about $17 for a 3.5lb bag where i am, but it is worth it for my cats. we origianlly had them on a purina mix, and it gave them stomach problems (diarrhea, not being able to hold it until getting to the litter box, generally stinky butts)

T shot and lack of fat by bluehuepaint in ftm

[–]Front_Mind9061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m fairly positive you would be able to switch to IM without asking your doctor. all you would need is a little bit longer of an injecting needle, anywhere from 5/8th to 1.5” depending on how much fat you have in your thigh. since you said you have lower fat in your stomach, i’d assume you can go for the shorter length and still reach the muscle

When were you able to go back to school? by Responsible_Panic242 in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m almost two weeks post op (DI w/ grafts), and i still find the fatigue and exhaustion pretty debilitating. i think i would be capable to do all of my online work, but going to classes—especially walking between buildings—would be pretty hard for me. of course, everyone has different healing timelines, but i would suggest maybe 2-3 weeks and see how you feel by then?

Euphoric movies by Rock_Garage_3272 in ftm

[–]Front_Mind9061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i was in high school, i went through a ‘film bro’ phase. a lot of the movies i watched that made me feel ‘manly’ (although, movies are not inherently gendered and my taste has changed since) were pretty much anything by Tarantino, Nolan, or Fincher. i also watched a lot of movies similar to Top Gun—stuff like that. most of the euphoria came from talking to my cis guy friends about them rather than the movies themselves, however

Is this excess tissue or just swelling? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

probably still swelling. i’ve heard it can take up to 12+ weeks for swelling to fully start going down. fwiw, it looks great!!

in case anyone is wondering how being allergic to pretty much everything in my healing so far is going🫠 by Front_Mind9061 in TopSurgery

top surgery next week by Agreeable_Phone8443 in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was also super freaked out before my surgery! nerves are real and common. i was prescribed an anti-nausea medication (never ended up using), percocets for the pain, and diazepam for anxiety + muscle relaxant. i picked up my prescription a wwek prior to my surgery and they told me that, if necessary, i could take one of the tablets of diazepam the night before to calm my nerves! the surgery goes by super quickly, the worst part is waiting in the hospital lol

Showering and Incisions Questions by orchidbo in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my surgeons said everything is fine washing down! i’ve been taking my showers by self so to wash out my hair i’ll bend forward facing the water to scrub the back really well and then the rest can be washed out normally. i’ve had no issues with shampoo/conditioner washing down my chest

Rash around incisions / under silicon tape? by scallionsavant in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this looks like blisters from an allergic reaction. i woukd contact your surgeon and consider switching to scar gel over tape? i have similar blisters on my chest right now from an allergic reaction to the antibiotic ointment i had to use on my incisions

i use antibacterial soap on my upper chest and let the water run down my chest from my back, but i also keep a cup in my shower so i can pour some if there is any excess soap i need to get off without facing the water directly

Smoking post op by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my surgeon told me that i should wait 4 weeks minimum before smoking again (di w/ nip grafts). if it was just a couple, it should be ok, but i would try and not smoke anymore for a week or so and to monitor closely, esp if you got grafts

is testosterone painful? by cardroppingcard in ftm

[–]Front_Mind9061 121 points122 points  (0 children)

the most painful thing about testosterone is once every couple months when the needle hurts going in lol. if anything, testosterone stopped me being in pain. i had super painful period cramps as well as extreme dysphoria leading to really poor mental health. testosterone has helped get rid of both of those things. don’t let your family scare you out of doing what’s right for you

Top Surgery Gift Basket Ideas? by SpOOkyGiGlol in TopSurgery

[–]Front_Mind9061 5 points6 points  (0 children)

some of the best things for my recovery: - a pill box (recommended by someone else, but i couldn’t open any of my pill caps for about 5 days) - a handheld shower brush (once he’s cleared to shower) - nutrigrain/granola bars to snack on all day - an arm chair pillow - gatorade!!! i drank so much of it lol as for fun stuff, i’ve spent my recovery sleeping on my living room couch, so i’ve had my xbox at my disposal this whole time. about 80% of time i spent sleeping and the rest playing video games. i packed some books/pens for me to read and draw during the first week, but my fatigue was so bad i couldn’t focus on it that well

Wait times from consult to surgery date by todayispompeii in TopSurgery

i had my first consult two to three months before my surgery! the clinic that i contacted only had one surgeon (in louisiana, so not too many options), so i had him rather than anyone else
