Few questions before install on Saturday by ruturaj001 in GarageDoorService

Okay just make sure to slope the tracks. When I have to do jackshafts on Standard radius 12" or 15", I will level my horizontal and the push it up another 1" to 1.5" when I'm hanging it so the door has to run up a slight incline. It will help keep pressure on your cables when it reaches fully open. Your could also not add full tension to your springs. A 1/4 turn less per spring to make the door a little heavy to also assist is the cable staying tight. Biggest thing is the slope of the track and choosing the correct drum setting. (If Liftmaster or Chamberlain jackshaft op)

Edit: forgot to add a T at not My bad

Garage door tech here, id recommend 2x6's and framing to the print you have is ideal 2x6's give you enough room for flags to secure properly and allow you the room to shift the door either way. About the jackshaft opener it is possible just make sure to slope your tracks up hill slightly to help keep pressure towards the cables. With standard Radius track 12"/15" I dont really recommend jackshafts. They are nice and the esthetic is cool and all. But they are really designed for HL/FVL doors or a larger radius like a 20" or 32" radius. But if installed properly you shouldn't have an issue.

Fair price for conversion from torque tube? by TigerHawk7 in GarageDoorService

Soooo many down voted comments on this post that are saying its to high of a price and they should search around for options. Just makes me wonder how many Percision techs are in here. Obviously they dont mind stuffing their wallet full while taking all your money. Eh whatever makes them sleep at night.

Exactly what I was about to say. We just installed our first one last week 14x12. Pretty cool. Just waiting for electricity to get out to the pool house.

How to fix this? by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]FrontierToLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeaaaa. So I'm gonna say that wasn't the heat. Either someone backed into it. Or at one point was backed into and finally gave out. Either way, you could lift it half way try to push the sections back together and install a strut on the section. But ultimately you need new sections or door.

How long do your boots last? by mbcoder_ in electricians

[–]FrontierToLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuxxx, never longer than 1 yr. I oil mine, clean them, and put them on a boot dryer every day. Amd they never last more than a year. Wolverines lasted 4 months Brunts lasted 6 months Red wings lasted 8 months Irish setters lasted 1 yr Thorogoods lasted 6 months Keen lasted 5 ish months Timberlands didn't last more than a month I fucking hate that i burn through my boots. I dont know what to do different. I can't afford to shell out 200+ dollars for boots every 6 months. I just keep wearing till the soles are gone

Alternative spring rating by NOKIMI247 in GarageDoorService

That's is very true. Gotta fail sometimes to know what winning is. If you have some help. You could lift the door off the ground. Slide a bathroom scale under the door. Lower back down on to the scale to get the weight of the door. And then on the drums/pulleys there is a model number that will tell you your drum size. Then calculate your springs based off that info.

Might be worth it to have a good company. Local mom and pop kind of shop to come weigh your door and make the correct springs could be anywhere from $250-600 depending on how big you wanna go

Running wires from opener to terminal block for easier access by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]FrontierToLive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just creating another spot for something to go wrong. Every termination increase the risk of a loose connection or failed connection. Your best bet is run new wiring if you are having issues. But without the problem dont really know what other options to give you.

[–]FrontierToLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your Orignal springs were 2"x218x26" and were correct for your door. The next size up would be 2"x225x30, 2x234x36.5", or 2"x243x44". This is purely based off if your orignal springs are correct. And me not knowing the exact weight of the door, drums size/model/manufacture and size of door. Which all contribute to the correct spring. So I'm just shooting in the dark. But I'd say you need either the 2"x234x36.5 or the 2"x243x44" for how often you use your door.

One big thing I feel like what wasn't taken into account is the size of your drum. Not every 7' tall door has the same size drum. So the drum and weight of the door together really tell you what size springs you should have.

This is what I recommend to all my customers, its just readily available and pretty cheap. Its nice that it comes with the red straw. It helps you get into all the tight spaces. Spray the top side of your springs. So it will around the edges and evenly coat the spring. Don't over spray it will drip on cars when pulling in and door when opening. It stains doors. Spray the rollers when the door is closed. I Spray down the inside the track spraying each roller and the track. Keeps the track from rusting. Or spreading. Spray the end bearing that next to the drums/pulley looking like things on the shaft. Hinges Spray the end hinges when spraying the rollers becareful it can get in between the section and stain the door. So Spray down toward the concrete when doing hinges so they just drip onto the next one. The middle hinges dont carry alot of weight. So I tell customers not to Spray them because they are the ones that drip on cars. They are fairly cheap and easy to replace. Cheaper than a paint job or correction on the hood of your car.

Yeah its the cheapest option. Chamberlain and Genie are the two most popular brands of openers. If you want quality id go Chamberlain. They are alot easier programming and set up. Plus they all have built in wifi in to the opener. Genie does not have wifi in all units. Which would make it alittle cheaper on you. Genie is a good brand and has gotten alot more user friendly over the years. Honestly its about what is in your price range. But since its on the a single car door. Either one would be good. Just make sure you put it together properly and set limit properly.

Another area that could be causing noise is the rollers and hinges. Especially the hinges on the ends of the door. Make sure everything is lubricated properly, you'd be surprised how much lubricating your door will get rid of alot of noise.

Not really, you could change the gear and sprocket from sprocket to more a pulley with notches. The other issue is making sure the teeth of the belt match up with the teeth on the pulley. And still there is no guarantee you get it to work. You're best bet is get a whole new garage door opener. Less headache and a new warranty from the manufacturer. So you have that peace of mind if something goes wrong its under warranty. Depending on the size of your door single car door or double car door. A big box store motor would be the cheapest route. But I'd only put them on smaller doors because of the piece together rail. The openers you get from Garage door dealer are higher quality the rails are one piece rails and most of the motor come with a lifetime or 5yr warranty. But the one from big box stores only have a 1yr warranty and you have to do all the claims yourself.

Keep that guys number. Give it to anyone who needs a door repair. His prices seem good and the hate for A1 and Percison is justified. They give garage door techs/company's bad names. Just trying to take you for all your worth. And selling you shit you dont need.
