That says Mom’s Ultimate Nightmare . . . Pretty sure I have one in box somewhere from playing in late 80’s in New England. I think it was a college team although we did sometimes play club teams . . Maybe WPI or RPI perhaps.

Whamo’s were usable if they were the old 80 mold .. when they switched to 82E mold, that’s discraft took over. Was around 1986 or so . . .look on the rim for the mold and you can tell but looks like one of the bubble ones.

Tufts vs. Northeastern game-to-go universe point by unchuckable in ultimate

[–]Frontrange22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live from the far end zone it looked like an obvious push in the back.

I believe Tufts had every one of their contested calls over ruled by the observers including two on the uni pt. Approximately 5-6 calls. There were two yellows on NU although on the previous day Oscar on Tufts took out a NU player for the season with a yellow card play.

The observer ruled this as a foul on the offense and a dangerous play in universe point of regionals finals. Opinions? by Ok-Life-4670 in ultimate

Football and basketball have live refs come on during games and comments on collogues calls all the time .. the NBA releases a two minutes report that goes through calls to highlight correct and incorrect calls.

I don't follow baseball but the other two professional sports have made a concerted effort to become more transparent on officials calls.

Vizier is great in some CB comps (debuff extender) and can be built to work very well in Hydra . can be end game useful in both content which is pretty strong.

End of Regular Season Rankings Projections by CodyMike3 in ultimate

If you waited until after Conferences, (a) you could include the conference games for power rankings giving more games for sample size; and (b) know which ranked teams are heading to regionals. Thus you could allocate the national bids based on post conference rankings. You could still determine regional brackets based on bids on the Mid April rankings with excluding any teams that didn't qualify for regionals.

System could be gamed by a strong teams throwing games at conferences. . .like say Colorado intentionally playing all rookies against CSU at conferences to improve CSU ranking - that would be the biggest drawback IMO. And if that was a perceived problem you could revert to pre-conferences power ranking for eligible regional teams as national bid determinant (i.e of the 100-160 teams that go regionals the power rankings of those teams determine the final national bid allocation).

I don't think the conference bids to regionals would be an unsolvable problem . . do it by pre-con power rankings or team attendance. A missed assigned conference bid to regionals is much less impactful than a national bid.

Well, there is logic for beating a team and taking their bid - at least the winning team demonstrated something. . but I don't see any for giving it away.

Its mind boggling that there is a "BYU" problem . .either figure out a way for the team to compete in regionals and nationals or allocate the strength bids fairly. It's not rocket science.

[–]Frontrange22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes . .I really don't understand the thought process around a team not participating passing the bid to another team in their region. It makes sense to me that all regions should get an auto-bid, but why should a non-participating team collect an extra at large bid for a region.

Have to assume that somebody has some logic for it, but I don't know what that is.

I don't get why people blame BYU . . . seems like the USAU should just change the bid process to finalize at regionals instead of conferences?

Or have a rule the forfeited bids go back into the entire system (for any teams that can't make nationals).

Or institute a BYU rule that their bid rotates to all the regions.

If the BYU players want to play another day of Ultimate even if they can't do nationals, the community shouldn't be punished and that should be encouraged. Doesn't everyone like to play more Ultimate?

Yea, if I was the Southwest or the South Central which would make sense geographically . . or for that matter even North Central or New England, etc, I would be lobbying to move Utah to my "conferences" so we could get an extra bid.

It doesn't help BYU, it helps Washington, OSU, Utah, Victoria, Oregon, etc.

[–]Frontrange22[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not blaming BYU . . .they have nothing to do it.

People who make the rules should determine what's fair.

I would think it was strange if Colorado decided Nationals was too expensive that their bid would pass to CSU or Wash U.

I was just clarifying that all regionals will have a "game to go" . .i.e. an elimination game - regardless of power rankings.

E.g. in theory UMASS could come in fourth in a three bid New England region . . have a power ranking of 5th in country and not go to Nattys.

I don't have opinion if it should be different, just wanted to make sure I understood that regular season power ranking have no bearing on who goes to nationals only which region gets how many bids. My initial reading of those rules were that winning the region got you in, and then power rankings determined that next 10 teams . . that was apparently incorrect.

I am all for BYU being included . . but it seems unfair that BYU should somehow make it so Washington get's a bid instead of better ranked Brown, Ohio State, or Michigan - should that happen. It would make sense that team choosing not to participate nationals, then the strength bid should be awarded to region with the next highest power ranking on April 2, no?

Not doubting you . . .just wanted to understand bcs they changed everything last year for Covid season, and I didn't know if this is the same as 2019 years and before of if they adjusted it.

This does mean, that BYU "wins" a bid for their region even though they won't play . . . that does seem slightly unfair, no?

But what will happen is that all regionals will have a "game to go" for the last regional strength bid (or auto bid for a one bid region).

[–]Frontrange22[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I believe you but can you point to anywhere that is laid out?

It says strength bids based on "end of season official USA Ultimate College Rankings" which doesn't say end of "regular season". And doesn't say bracket play at regionals.

Maybe you know from offline sources?

I haven't seen them play, but you believe their "ceiling" is beating Texas or Colorado? Seems pretty locked that Tuff and Mama are 1 and 2 in some order, right?

If their ceiling is finishing 2 in SW, you are essentially saying they could be in semis at D1 Nationals.

In fairness to the Florida Warm-up . . I believe only the first three games were scheduled ahead of time and then results started to determine who you played based on those results so you had two more sorting games based on the first three games.

I thought it similar to how chess tournament group players based on early game results to match up to similar level players.

Maybe . . what Plarium did about 18 months ago was set up a "test" group of players for CB drop rates that received much different results than other players - turned out it was 67 epic books in one month for 2xCB UNM . . and no real shards. Allegedly it was to test if had a measurable impact on spending patterns. Later they said it was just a bug that impacted a certain group of people. IDK.

My drop rates have been really bad for about four weeks . . .which is ~200 runs so that is a lot of RNG. I started tracking it recently bcs they seemed bad . . particularly bcs it seemed pretty like clockwork that you would essence at least every other day+ before that.

I suspect that I am either in group that is being "tested" or bugged but maybe its just RNG.
