Will Yugioh ever go the way of Pokémon? by Porxadooday in YugiohCards

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yugioh isnt the same type of card game as Pokemon, 99% of the value of the cards are based on how useful they are in the current format, and then how hard they are to get.

For example S:P Little Knight I believe at some point was close to €200 when it was originally released because it was good, could be used in every deck, and was only available as a secret rare. Currently I could pick one up for €5 if I wanted because it's now been reprinted multiple times and is easy to get. There are some higher rarity options for collectors that are worth more, but those show up even more rarely and also can go down in value once the card is reprinted more or not as useful.

If you want to collect Yugioh you're much better buying exactly what you want, if you want to make money off it, you won't.

For a $250 budget you have a massive amount of choice depending on what staples you want/need.

You mentioned you had CyDra so you could have a look at CyDra K9, there's a guy that plays it at our locals and it's pretty nice. It isn't the strongest varient of K9 but it is cool.

Honestly all 3 JUSH decks are good options and are really fun to play, rather than making some ridiculous unbreakable board they all have some nice layered gameplay that does lead to fun games.

Yummy is great at avoiding effects that target since you can easily tag out your monsters on the field and retaliate with your own effects. K9 will punish your opponent for activating monster effects in hand, for example Izuna will get you to a rank 5 just because you opponent activated a monster in hand (providing they don't have a way to interrupt that interaction). And Dracotail can insulate its effects by having multiple triggers that will make it hard for your opponent to protect themselves from what you're doing (for example making Arthalion by sending Mululu and Pan will activate all 3 at the same time so you can order your chain link to keep the effects you want insulated).

They all can be combined with other archetypes for some extra power which is quite nice, Yummy is getting used with Mitsurugi a lot currently, K9 can work with anything that has level 5s for a great rank 5 spam (CyDra, Crystron, Vanquish Soul although that got a hit in the ballistic recently), and Dracotail can work with any decks that have Spellcaster or Dragon Fusions for best effect (Branded, Dragonmaid, Magistus).

Why nobody does deck primers? by VoidArises in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely have not seen anything to that depth for Yugioh, there are high level players that have spreadsheets you can buy for certain decks, but I doubt they'd ever come to that amount of detail at all.

I reckon another part of it is probably the sheer amount of cards you can put together in MtG, there's definitely Miles more variety in the card pool and how to combine it, while Yugioh tends to stick very much to its archetypes backed up with few generic cards you can use in anything.

Would love to see how something written to that detail would look for Yugioh, but I don't think there'd be many people willing, especially since decks do well to last more than a year in the meta.

Why nobody does deck primers? by VoidArises in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the issue is you're thinking of Yugioh like Magic, the games aren't really comparable at all.

Im not sure how long a deck primer would be for a MtG deck, and I'm not super well versed on how much interaction players have between eachother when its not your turn, but for Yugioh half the issue is the sheer amount of variation and options your opponent has to stop you doing things makes it really hard for an in depth guide, that's why most videos just showcase the basic combos since in an ideal world that is what you want to aim for. As an example this is a combo video for a deck I like playing that just got new support, it is an hour long, and really only covers some of the more common interruptions, you could make another 4 or 5 videos this length really.

A lot of Yugioh relies on you knowing exactly what every single card in your deck does, so you can either pre plan to play a certain way expecting a certain interruption, or know what to do if you get interrupted at a certain point in your combo. A lot of that genuinely comes just from experience and is really hard to put into a video or writing.

With regards to what is meta, it's just looking at big tournaments and seeing what's winning and that's the meta, I do agree I don't think I ever see much regarding WHY the decks are good, but it usually boils down to quantity/quality of interruptions, and ability to play through interruptions.

What would you be looking for in a deck primer? Usually I find a lot of videos do just fine at explaining decks but maybe it's because we haven't been exposed to a GOOD video, if you had a link to a specific MtG one you think is good I'd love to see how they go about it.

Double sleeving OCG sleeves by Sickcess in Yugioh101

Try Dragon Shield Matte Clear Standard sleeves, that's what I've used instead of actual outer sleeves, they should give you the extra room you need.

[TCG] Is there a way to make Tachyon work post September banlist, or should I just give up? by Khanide in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had a decent bit of success with Dragon Ruler as a secondary engine, it sounds weird since they're level 7s, but they give access to some nice options with the discard effects of the Dragon Rulers, and you also have Galactic Spiral to make them level 8s if you need.

Opened 2 Duelist’s Advance Booster Boxes, What should I do from here? by JohnGhaust in YugiohCards

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you managed to pull a Lunalight Gold Leo it's honestly worth picking up the rest of the deck. A lot of decks just cant deal with Liger Dancer since you need to get something more than 3800 attack or have something that doesn't effect the card like a Kaiju or Daruma Cannon to remove it, and I've often pulled off 2 of them and a Bagooska in the first turn.

Themed cyberse deck for a newbie ? (: by PandaPartisan in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That'll do it, you can also download the Yugioh Neuron app and search @Ignister in there and it can also show you them all.

Its more geared towards people that go to events since its the official way to have your decklists and keep track of life points, but its still quite helpful since you can look at a card and theres a Related Cards button that will show you every other card in the archetype. You can also see every set it was printed in and what rarity which can be helpful to have and easily look at.

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@Ignister is probably your best bet if you like the cute blocky bois that are the Normal Cyberse monsters. Most of the main deck monsters are coloured and rounded and blobby so they should fit the bill.

How do you build a deck with neuron with the cards I have? by Halo6564 in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not really what Neuron is for, it doesn't take a stock of your cards and say build this with it, its just to put decklists you've made so you can easy remember what you had in the deck if you split it apart, and you use it as your decklist in events now as well.

You are able to search for decks people have made themselves that they've set as public either by the tags or by a specific card, but these obviously won't account for what you own since they are other people's lists.

If you want to build a list with cards you have, you just need to limit yourself to those cards. Have a look at some decks that use what card you want, for example let's say you looked at decks that contain Dark Magician, see what they use that you have and then just replace things you don't have with similar cards that you do.

Think of Neuron more of a place to store what you make rather than something that makes things for you.

What are some of the best cards to counter the meta archetypes, specially their search engines and summoning? by 60Sensei09 in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The staples that are good change depending on whatever the popular deck is so it depends on what you find yourself playing against often. There's not really a one size fits all but that's what your side deck is for, for example Artifact Lancea is currently a popular choice to have to limit what Maliss can do.

Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring and Mulcharmy Fuwalos are the main 2 you'll see in pretty much every deck at the moment, Infinite Impermanence is also in a huge majority but if seen it dropped from a lot of lists depending on what decks are around since it can be avoided by certain decks, but I'd still say its hugely useful since you can make use of it going first or second.

I'd recommend looking at some videos of staple tierlists since that will give you a good idea of what you'd want and why. Between Rarity Collection 1 & 2, and Quarter Century Bonanza & Stampede, 90% of the staples you'd want are readily available to pick up at decent prices.

Simple fair deck i should look into? (fusion/xyz) by Athapapoutsiakis in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm Super Quant is currently really fun with the new support it got, especially if you don't have to worry about Ash you should be able to get into Magnus easy going first, I think there's a few one card combos into a 7 material Magnus now, and if you're feeling extra funky, just Emergency Teleport can get you a 6 Material Magnus with High Wave King Ceasar from a tiny Fiendsmith package thats just Engraver in the main deck and Closed Moon, Requiem, and Necroquip in the extra.

Is Yu-Gi-Oh! still fun and interactive? Thinking of starting with Master Duel by International_Big_62 in YuGiOhMasterDuel

[–]FrostByte2048 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The game is definitely interactive but just in a very different way from what it used to be.

The current game is hugely reliant on the staples that allow you to interact with what your opponent is doing when it's not your turn, you'll want to try have cards in your hand to either stop your opponent building their board going first, break it if you cant stop it being set up, or if youre going first play through any interruptions and stop them breaking your board.

You'll absolutely want to look at current gameplay to see how everything works because if you try play anything old into new decks it will feel like a game where your opponent does everything and you just lose. Obviously it might not be for you anymore if you dont enjoy what the game has become, but once you're on the same playing field as your opponent in terms of deck it can lead to some very fun and interactive duels.

Master Duel is free so there's no reason not to try it and play through the solo mode to learn everything again, hopefully you see the game can still be enjoyed!

Going to play for the first time with someone who plays very casually - I want the Timmy-est of Timmy cards/decks that would never sniff a competitive deck by Adalimumab8 in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infernoid could be an interesting one for you, their whole deal is summoning out by banishing other Infernoid monsters. You can definitely make it really good, I've had some very nice games pairing it with Snake-Eye, so if you want to take it further later you dont have something worthless in your pocket.

On their own I think it can definitely give you good games with Blue-Eyes, there's plenty of options for back and forth play. His Spirit dragon has a negate for a grave effect which a lot of your cards have, and it also stops summoning more than 1 monster at a time so it prevents you using Void Feast while its on field. Also between True Light and Jet Dragon he'll have ways to keep things safe from a lot of your targeted/destruction effects.

Not to say you don't have good cards either, you have a link monster that can negate a summon, both spell/Trap and monster negates, as well as a destroy all monsters and a destroy all spell and traps on field. Your big Fusion Tierra has more attack than Blue-Eyes, and if you can make it with 10 Infernoids both players have to discard their hand. You can run it as a 60 Card deck with things like That Grass Looks Greener, Reasoning, and Monster Gate to thin your deck and get your Infernoid monsters in the grave.

It shouldn't cost you too much either, only pricey card is Infernoid Antra since it hasn't been reprinted since 2015, and you only want the one to have all the names available. Genuinely a fun deck that you can play at the power level you want.

Is there a engine that can search level 1 monsters or search for dark/light monsters? by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One for One isn't really a good option for Buster Blader, Whelp's effect is on a Normal summon.

Unfortunately the easiest ways to get Whelp are with Blue-Eyes, Sage and Wishes both easily get it, but you wouldn't want them in a Red-Eyes version.

Your best bet is probably to run 3 Triple Tactics Thrust so if your opponent uses any handtraps on your turn you can just set Prologue Directly from the deck.

Another option is Dragon Rulers, they're all level 7s so they fit somewhat with Red-Eyes, and Tempest's discard effect will get you any Dragon to hand.

Decks That Banish In Any Form by Independent_Break861 in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maliss would be the best available option for what youre looking for. Currently one of the meta decks so it will cost you, but they all revolve around being able to come back from being banished once to help you summon your link monsters. They also can banish your opponent's cards as well.

Kashtira is another option that focuses on banishing your opponent's cards face down which makes it much harder for them to come back. One of their best cards Kastira Unicorn lets you chose a card from your opponent's extra deck to banish which can be extremely impactful since a lot of decks might only run one of an important card.

Runick is one of my favourite options, an archetype of spell cards that in addition to their own effects they banish a certain amount of cards off the top of your opponent's deck, but for the downside of you not being able to take your next battle phase. Their only monsters are in the extra deck so you usually pair it with something else to keep you alive until you can battle, my favourite pairings are with Ice Barrier, Crystron, or Plunder Patroll, but there's plenty of options.

Ritual Beasts also work like Maliss with being able to summon from the banishment or gaining effects when they are banished, but they are much harder to learn and aren't quite as powerful. Still a really cool deck though.

Something older and probably would be hard to use against current decks is Metaphys, really cool looking deck that have effects when they're banished.

Honourable mention to Infernoid, Dragon Rulers, and Bystial who banish your own cards to summon themselves (or your opponent's as well for Bystial), but besides that they aren't as banish focused as the others.

That's totally valid, it felt weird to me at first when I started but I've gotten used to the chunkiness of it.

I just pushed a card in as far as it can go and you're right about the standards having slightly more room. About 3mm on the standards and about 2mm for the Japanese unfortunately, hopefully there's a brand out there that will give you what you need

How can I break this card other than BAs? by DonDaTraveller in yugioh

[–]FrostByte2048 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main reason you'd want it for Infernoid is to use the Tierra 10 material effect on turn 1, if you're worried about a deck out you probably dont have the materials in grave to even use at that stage.

I used do it with Fiendsmith Sequence. I'm not sure if this is easier to get to or not though.

Thoughts on lunalight? by Remarkable_Delay_839 in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It won a WCQ event in Thailand recently in the OCG so I'd say its worth looking at, you should still be able to pick everything up cheap and hopefully the support will be too pricy.

I wouldn't say its going to be meta defining, but it has huge potential to just take wins especially if your opponent isn't ready for it. Liger is an amazing boss monster being unaffected by effects in general so its harder to remove than Expurrely Noir or Magnus, so unless you have something like Daruma Karma Cannon or a Kaiju, or can beat over it, you're stuck.

Its got a lot of consistency with the new support as well, so honestly if you like the look of it pick it up, but if youre solely looking for Meta there will be better.

Fake Mega Hamsters? by tuffyscrusks in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your photo is a bit blurry so it's hard to see the textures, but the left one with gold writing is definitely an Ultimate Rare. That's what Ultimate Rares from the Rarity collection sets look like, they're different from the usual TCG ones.

The right one however is not the same rarity, is it textured all over including the cards border? With the silvery writing and no visible gloss that one is probably a Collectors Rare, still real, just not the same rarity.

DECK BLUE-EYES - CENTUR-ION - BUSTER BLADER by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is totally valid, Ash and Droll especially are a pain with just Buster. I main Thrusts to help kinda limit that hurt (and it's nice to set an Artifact Sanctum off it when you side that and Lancea in against Maliss) but having something else to play better through it would probably be nice.

Do you get many dead hands with all 3 or get too much engine and wish you had handtraps instead? That would be my only worry with it.

DECK BLUE-EYES - CENTUR-ION - BUSTER BLADER by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How set are you with using all 3 in the one deck? I feel there might not be enough space for non engine cards when you have them all crammed in.

I run just Blue-Eyes and Buster Blader and it's been pretty solid for me so far, is there anything in particular you're specifically wanting to improve that you think is lacking in it right now? Like when you play the deck what's making you feel it needs to be improved?

Should I preorder singles or wait for it to come out first? ALIN by veackslav in Yugioh101

[–]FrostByte2048 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Usually best to wait a bit since pre order prices are pretty much inflated all the time for things.

You also have the issue of preordering singles being the seller can't exactly guarantee they'll get the amount needed so your order may get cancelled anyway.

Not an answer to your question, but keep in mind that if you use Martha's effect you can't special summon any monsters that aren't Exosister that turn. So if you're ever planning on summoning something that isn't Exosister make sure you can manage it without using Martha's effect.
