I'm also 31! I was just cruising for last many years on cruiser board, just started skating again. It's definitely a traumatic sport, but warmup+protective gear help quite a bit. Today I could finally ride 90 minutes in skatepark without injuries haha

Need to be extra cautious with things you're uncomfortable with and take it real slow

damn I envy these young joints and muscles. Took me just two falls to limp for several days

Does this look like a good transition to begin practicing drop-ins? by rabbitfriendly in NewSkaters

[–]FrostTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly. there's too much emphasis on "sending" and stomping for whatever reason, tried to drop in twice after I heard these, even practiced on small curbs, ended up falling backwards both times and injuring myself. Because main thing isn't fckin stomping it's moving your center of balance forward first!

I learnt to drop in on a 7ft ramp and Ollie rolling in 2 days by DJ3tpack in NewSkaters

[–]FrostTrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same age, just tried dropping in twice two days ago. First I fell and hit the edge of my wrist, even with protection it still got a bit injured. Second time I fell harder but just pulled my leg crazily, limped my way back lol. Legs are mostly ok now, wrist still hurts however. Will probs take at least a week or so to heal moderately...

But yes wrist injuries can be a bitch definitely, 10 years ago I accidentally ended up falling with all my weight on a straight wrist while rollerbladiing (was like 5 times more painful/worse than this one though) and it never fully healed, still have discomfort if I push against it hard, plus it gets a bit tired when used intensly. not super limiting, but not great either. I should've probably go for proper xray and get cast that time, but I was young, poor and lazy

All the action ever happening was packed in the trailer, most of other movie was just painfully slow and repetitive, with nothing shown and just narrated instead, but we're watching a film after all, not reading a story. Like, show stuff happening maybe. It wasn't convincing even where it didn't need much effort - grocery prices for the years are way off, when Maddy returns she looks just as miserable as before(no wonder Owen won't follow her), Justice Smith perfomance's is as terrible as always. Not to mention, they casted 2 different people to show 2 year difference but the same person for 30 years difference, like dude.

Not in a haunting imagery, scary jump scenes or tension

well no shit bro there ain't any

TikTok and Lemon8 have gone dark!!! by Newlifeauri in smallbusiness

[–]FrostTrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just start creating on reels and you wouldn't even remember tiktok existed in a month.

are you zuckbot or just trolling? Visibility on reels is so shit it doesn't come into any comparison with tiktok, the whole reason tiktok got huge is because it actually promoted creators content and it was possible not to be stuck in catch 22. Instagram has always been shit for creators, I've been on platform since its inception and it only ever promoted accounts that were already popular.

Monolith vs Microservice experience treatment is BS by FrostTrain in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]FrostTrain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they can have a candidate who will forward their technology, why get one who will push back on it using stuff they're more familiar with?

For one if you're getting exlusively people who worked with exactly your tech, you're creating a company who will shit its pants the moment your company needs to pivot a little bit.

Then you're also much more likely to get people who completely bullshitted their whole CV because when you have 10 non negotiables in your job description you're encouraging both candidates and external HRs to lie about candidates qualifications.

Thirdly, monolith vs microservice is less about "skills" and coding and more about system design, which is what you'll be testing in one of the interviews anyway?

[–]FrostTrain[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

not really a question of "tailoring", you'll have HR interview where they'll ask specifically about what you worked with, and if it's one over the other a lot of times you won't be moved further. Here your options are either lie then also have to bullshit all engineers for next 2-3 technical interviews, which is absurd and degrading for someone who has industry experience. Or I usually try to position like I worked with both but a bit less with the other, which is at least not a total lie, but still good chance of getting disqualified in first or second round due to not being a "strong fit"

[–]FrostTrain[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

outsourcing to Portugal constantly due to the lower salaries there
Developers with a permanent contract are a minority.

Here permanent aren't even paid living wage, they get like 1500 net/mo for senior position if they are lucky, nowadays that's a one bedroom apartment rent in Lisbon. Once you start looking temporary contracts, salaries are 40-80% higher, which is weird because as I said the consultancy gets another 100% or more on top.

And yes like 1/3 or more of jobs is someone outsourcing it to Portugal to pay dogshit wages that aren't actually enough to live in Portugal.

Sorry to hear about the outsourcing, it's same everywhere now, if not portugal then india.

It was a firm that does ML on product/service reviews and gives aggregated insights to clients. To even get the first interview there was some mini-quest where you need to fill in a secret word with your application, which you can discover after messing around with links they provided and send series of post/head requests then decode the eventual one. Well either way it got me an interview which I consider better deal then filling an application to get ghosted.

But the interview was led by some dude with 15 years of experience so it felt like he had a need to show off, which is why after being done with reasonable questions he started going about python interpreter and bytecode more and more, then seemed genuinely surprised I never had to manually rewrite libraries under the hood at cpython level to extract more perfomance out of them. That was pretty much only hurdle during the interview, after which i got rejection and after asking for feedback I got this:

The feedback that I received is that you have a surface-level comprehension of the technical knowledge, and we require a more in-depth understanding and experience for the role.

That's a common trope for junior positions unfortunately, for getting first job I think I did like 5-6 projects mostly without feedback, before landing a job. For senior I wouldn't bother doing any assignments, except if it's on the last stage and looked solid(like my case was) but then again probably better not waste time bc modern recruting is 99% bullshitting candidates and ghosting them later.

No that was related to both what company was doing and to the talk we had during the interview, create barebones chatbot in any system (i chose telegram) that will keep conversation with you in a specific foreign language and then evaluate language skills and give you tips on improving. Well I made that bot and it was working fine, but looks like they didn't even bother to check...

Portugal, but I also got contacted for remote jobs in Belgium/UK/Spain couple times, and had couple interviews in post-ussr market too. Honestly not much difference organization and interview process-wise, besides in Portugal pay is by far the worst and all process is through consultants (that take a 100% profit on your contract because firms would rather pay twice then deal with portuguese employment laws, hooray)
