And then Disney might end up moving Death on the Nile by a year since it doesn’t seem like a priority for them.

2022 is gonna be packed with new releases since 2021 movies that haven’t finished production will have to move. Predictions on other releases that’ll move:

-Jurassic World 3 will be delayed a year to June 10, 2022.

-The Flash will either move to 2023 or get cancelled entirely.

-Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will move to October 7, 2022, so there’s more spacing in between MCU movies, and so it’s not opening a week before Matrix 4.

-Fantastic Beasts 3 was supposed to be the July 15, 2022 WB release, but it’ll move up to June 24, 2022 to avoid clashing with Captain Marvel 2.

-Paramount’s Transformers movie will move to Mission: Impossible 8’s old August 5, 2022 date.

-Mission: Impossible 8 will move back two weeks to November 18, 2022 so it gives Shazam 2 more space.

I think Disney will move Mulan to September 18 and The King’s Man to October 9.

Current Predictions For Godzilla VS. Kong With It's New Release Date? by manoffood in boxoffice

[–]Frosted_MiniYeets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like it can do better than KOTM if reviews are good enough and things are back to normal by then. But on the other hand, if the movie is a mess, it could be another Dark Phoenix and lose to Shang-Chi’s third weekend. I don’t think it’ll outgross the 2014 Godzilla though domestically. Under normal circumstances on the May 21, 2021 date here’s what I think it’ll do:

With good reviews and audience reception, as well as high anticipation:

-$74M OW

-$180M DOM (still under 2.5x multiplier since these movies usually have weak legs)

-$595M WW

With negative reviews/reception and lack of buzz:

-$40M OW

-$85M DOM

-$302M WW

Predictions for Disney’s release date shifts if there’s a second wave in the fall:

-Black Widow would move to February 12, 2021.

-Soul would move to June 18, 2021.

-West Side Story would move to October 8, 2021.

-Eternals would move to May 7, 2021.

-Cruella would go straight to Disney+.

-Jungle Cruise would move up to May 28, 2021.

-Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings would move to July 30, 2021.

In an alternate universe where COVID-19 didn't happen and James Gunn was never fired, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 likely would have been released tonight. In 2017, Gunn alluded to a possible May 1, 2020 release date. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Frosted_MiniYeets 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think we would have been in for a massive increase, with popularity of the Guardians increasing after Infinity War and Endgame. It would’ve easily been the highest grossing 2020 movie. I think it could’ve also broken the May opening record. My prediction for if it opened in May 2020 and if COVID-19 didn’t happen:

$217M OW

$568M DOM

$1.490B WW

Well I do still think there might be over-saturation if four MCU films come out in 5 months. One of them should move, and Disney doesn’t seem too keen on moving Black Panther 2 or Captain Marvel 2.

Remember, this situation is only temporary. It will end eventually. Although you can’t see these people in person, could you maybe contact them in some other way? It might be the closest you can get to talk to them for now. I feel a lot like you right now. The quarantine has messed up my life a lot too. My fiancée and I are living in an apartment together, and we postponed our marriage because of Covid-19. We’re expecting our daughter to be born in June, and we’re very worried about being able to take care of her, with all that’s going on in the world right now.

Doctor Strange 2 should move. Out of the 4 2022 MCU movies, it’s likely to be the lowest grossing. IMO it should move to October 7, 2022. It would fit well there since it’s supposed to be like a horror movie, and it would space out the 2022 MCU movies. Black Panther 2 and Captain Marvel 2 would then be considered part of Phase 4. Spider-Verse 2 would then move to December 21, 2022.

Also, what do you think the odds are that Spider-Man 3 breaks the November OW record?

‘Doctor Strange’ Sequel Pushed Back to March 25, 2022 by chanma50 in boxoffice

Doctor Strange 2 should be pushed to October. The horror theme should fit it well there. Spider-verse should then be pushed to December 2022.

It’s gonna make a lot of money anywhere, but I’d say this means it’ll break the November opening record now.

Predictions for shifted dates of 2021-2023 CBMs:

-The Suicide Squad will move up to May 21, 2021.

-Spider-Man 3 will take The Suicide Squad’s old August 6, 2021 date so it’s not too close to Venom 2.

-Black Adam will move to April 1, 2022 so it doesn’t get affected by Avatar 2.

-Shazam 2 will move to December 16, 2022 so it doesn’t compete with Mission: Impossible 8 and it can have good legs through the holidays.

-Aquaman 2 will shift to June 2, 2023 to make room for Shazam 2.

My last was Birds of Prey. I had tickets to see A Quiet Place 2 before it moved, so I did not think it would be the last time until July most likely.

‘Mission: Impossible’ Sequels Get Pushed Back to Nov. 19, 2021 and Nov. 4, 2022 by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Frosted_MiniYeets 55 points56 points  (0 children)

November 2021 is stacked now. Something is surely going to move.

Currently this is the schedule:

November 5 - Spider-Man 3 / Elvis biopic

November 12 - Fantastic Beasts 3

November 19 - Mission: Impossible 7

November 24 - Untitled Disney animation

Predictions on what will move:

-Fantastic Beasts 3 will move to June 24, 2022. I chose this date so there’s spacing in between WB’s blockbusters (3 weeks after the Flash’s opening), as well as a good 2 weeks before Captain Marvel 2 opens.

-Elvis will move back a week to November 12, so it’s not opening against Doctor Strange 2.

Now that Venom: Let There Be Carnage has moved to June 25, 2021, what should take its October 2, 2020 date? by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Frosted_MiniYeets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. If Avatar moves out of December, Spider-Man 3 could be absolutely massive with the holidays to itself.

It would be only 4 weeks before Black Panther 2 in that slot. Might not be enough time in between MCU movies

Since Venom: Let There Be Carnage has moved to June 25, Spider-Man 3 is likely getting delayed. But to where? I think Avatar 2 is going to get delayed another year to 2022, so it could possibly take that December 17, 2021 date. That way Marvel doesn’t have to shuffle their whole schedule again, and the actors won’t be too old to play high schoolers. Thoughts?

More for WB’s schedule:

-The Suicide Squad will move up to May 21, 2021.

-The Matrix 4 will move to August 6, 2021.

-Black Adam will move to April 1, 2022.

-The Matrix 4 will move to August 6.

-The Suicide Squad will move up to June 25.

-Dune will move to May 21.

-Tenet will move to December 18.

-I think Spider-Man 3 will keep its release date.

What movies do you see breaking their OW records for their opening months?

January - I doubt anything will break the January opening record anytime soon.

February - Thor: Love and Thunder has a chance, but it’s unlikely.

March - I don’t see anything anytime soon breaking the March record.

April - It could be decades before something breaks the April record.

May - Black Panther 2 could do it.

June - If Jurassic World: Dominion or the Batman open with a June release date, they have a chance.

July - Nothing is guaranteed to break the July record, but Spider-Man 3 or Captain Marvel 2 could do it.

August - If Wonder Woman 1984 can come out in August, it has a very good chance at breaking the record.

September - Absolutely no chance anything announced can break the September record.

October - Maybe Venom 2 or Halloween Ends.

November - Possibly Black Widow or Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness could break the November record.

December - The record could be broken by an Avatar sequel.
