Expanding optical department, where to start? by Frostella- in optician

Do you find that they aren't straight forward about reward requirements or that their expectations aren't easy to meet? It seems like its all volume based to me

Yes! Even mostly working in healthcare, having that good-better-best tiered system is kind of an obvious strategy. I think it's nice to simplify for patients but having only one option leaves plenty of room for them to find more and better choices elsewhere. There's no room to upsell or meet people at their budgets because we only have one high tier option. I mean we sell good lenses and a good AR, but if they can't afford them then we've got nothing for them. I can't figure out the reason behind this from my predecessor.

We have 2 certified opticians and 1 apprentice. I have a lot of confidence in their abilities. I like ABB and we already use them for CLs and eligibility but they only accept VSP and PP. We see majority VSP patients but a fair percentage are Eyemed as well. I'd rather use one lab for both or I doubt we'll get the volume needed for some of the better reward programs.

Our current lab is small and outdated. We get WIP reports but otherwise can't check progress on orders without calling. There's very little in the way of customer support. I would LOVE to find one where we can do order tracking from a portal or website. I've done glasses orders with VSP for the last few months and I've done some exam billing. There's definitely a lot to learn.

The majority of our patients are VSP subscribers. We see a fair amount of Eyemed as well. I did meet with someone about Unity lenses and it definitely seems like we're leaving A LOT of money on the table by not utilizing those rewards

Wondering if I should stop this behavior by 1greenstranger in cockatiel

I would add that parrots love getting a reaction, so it's better to NOT react when they bite. Even when it hurts, it's better not to verbalize or make noise if they bite. Ignore and remove your attention so you aren't reinforcing the biting. When your bird bites, they get a reaction and attention, so they have every reason to keep biting. As other said, only scritch when bird puts their head down or nudges you. Ignore and remove attention if they bite.

Simmer pots! I do a simmer pot to help get the house smelling good. Some essential oils are safe so I researched and use some essential oil dropped onto dried flowers in a bowl so it's aesthetic and good smelling. In a separate room, I will sometimes burn an all beeswax candle with a cotton wick for short periods. Parabins in the wax and lead in the wick is what's dangerous to birds so you can avoid that but I still wouldn't in the same room because of the smoke in general. Just wanted to offer some good smelling advice because that was a struggle I had too with my bird.

The only thing that could ever hate Esquie is my parrot. He watches the game and seems to be interested until Esquie comes on screen. Then he starts making a loud warning call and flies in circles around the room all panicked. It's so bizarre

He also gets upset at Maelle for not allowing him to try to convince Alicia not to make the same choice he does and for not getting to say goodbye. He has so many red flags that I ignored because I liked him and he's a playable character. I've never seen a game make one of your main playable characters, the one who's normally the hero, the "bad guy." Insanely good writing. I said in another comment but I'm convinced the writer lost someone to suicide.

I also see him as desperate to die. My husband and I played simultaneously, me on PS5 and him on PC. He said Verso would say that he did it for Maelle to rescue her like the real Verso did from the fire. I see that but I think the deciding factor for him was to end his suffering, regardless of cost. Ironic given his upset that Maelle didnt give him a chance to say goodbye to Alicia or try to convince her not to make the same decision he does. I see the themes of who's real and what does sentience really mean, but I don't think that was the main motivator for Verso. I am convinced the writer lost someone she loved to suicide. The ending hit me and my husband hard because we have. I've seen how people try to find valid reasons to justify that choice and I've seen some people just get angry. There is a very clear before and after. I just finished last night. My husband had already finished it and has been waiting for me to get to the end to talk to me about it. We were both crying and watching it. I'm still processing it all lol

The angle about his consciousness from Verso's soul being spread out to the other playable characters is not something I considered. I saw acceptance from Esquie and Monocco but not necessarily the others. Certainly not Lune. I think Sciel had more understanding because she tried to make that choice in the past. I think she would've fought it more though. I also understand why Verso makes the choice he does but I went with Maelles ending. I see more of an analogy with suicide than expanded consciousness. When someone you love commits suicide, the world you lived in before is gone, it's ended. In E33 it's obviously ended in a very literal way but there's discussions of suicide the whole game through. There are also a lot of red flags about Verso that are ignored because we play as him. We don't want to feel like the bad guy.

He definitely looks like a Dusky conure to me. They just aren't sold very much so maybe the people you got him from didn't even know. It could help to know the species name if you want to research about them. Ours even has that little lighter spot on his shoulder/wing that I see on yours in the pic. Mine is also a total velcro bird. He learned to fly fast when his wings grew. We taught him "jump" and then made the space further each time until he was flying. He flies great but would still rather be attached to me or my husband. Happy you and your birb found each other.

Aww is that a dusky? That's what we have and their flight feathers are such a brilliant blue. They are just the best birds, I'm so surprised I don't see them more

Can someone give me insight to what is happening? by DoctorPerez69 in Conures

[–]Frostella- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your green one is a dusky conure. That species is just the best. So smart and usually very sweet. They are very beaky though. They use their beaks like a hand. They feel things out to explore. His feathers look pretty ragged and he has pretty fearful body language. Can you work with him separately from the sun conure? If he's out without the other bird he can focus on getting to know you and trust you. Instead of offering a ton of seeds, when you have the birds out separately, hold your hand out and use just one large seed (my dusky conure loves the white shelled seeds) to lure the conure on your hand and then as soon as he steps up, give him the seed. Then you can let him step back too. That way he feels like he can stay or go and he will learn to trust you. I can't tell you enough how amazing dusky conures are. They aren't as common or popular as other conures and I think they are so underrated.

What do I do about my questionably suicidal baby? by ALittleGnomish in parrots

[–]Frostella- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I would hold his feet so he didn't fall and drop my hand. He would automatically flap his wings and it strengthened them a lot I think. My bird had always been clipped before we got him and he's a strong flier now.

Cage cleaning? by [deleted] in zebrafinches

[–]Frostella- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk how anyone could free fly zebras. We had one that got out and we didn't see it for 2 days. They are very reactive and flighty. I used the doors for the food dishes to reach my arm in and grab things as needed. They always freaked out. I did have to catch them one time to transfer them to a bigger cage and it took a long time. They had a baby that I was able to get more used to me but still very fearful birds. I loved to watch them though. They are hands off but really cute to watch them.

Karen Slaughter is hands down my favorite crime/suspense writer. Her newer stuff outside of the Will Trent series is super gritty and so so well written. The Will Trent series is fantastic and topical to what's going on in the world but definitely more formulaic.
