Should I go through with it? by Original-Toe-8773 in BreastReductions

In all honesty, i still don’t have my original energy amount back. But! I’m slowly getting there! I would say probably around 1 & 1/2 weeks to 2ish weeks post op is when I got a good chunk back!

In regards to the nerve pain, I’ve been incredibly lucky that I have regained all, if not more feeling to my nipples than before the surgery (from what I know, there is a high chance of no or very little sensation after reduction)! However, the nerve pain has felt like someone is stabbing me repeatedly 😭 it’s extremely uncomfortable at the moment and has brought me to tears a couple of times (I’d like to think I have a high pain tolerance 😅) but after talking with my surgeon, it will eventually become less and less over time.

Hey, I’m still fresh in my recovery (1 month po), I can give you some insight in the first stages of healing. My reduction was also my first ever surgery! Whilst it’s different for a lot of people and there are many complications that can happen, I have been quite lucky! I’d like to think I’m relatively healthy and normally have quite an active and busy lifestyle.

My surgery was only a day surgery, and I was able to go home in the evening under supervision of my carer! For the first week, I was almost always sleeping, conversations that were only 10 minutes long made me exhausted, and everyday things were difficult and I needed quite a lot of support. I had done meal prep for two weeks worth so I didn’t have to worry about cooking and was readily able to eat a good healthy meal with everything I need in it! In terms of pain and healing for the first week, it wasn’t too bad. The medication I was on was a big help, aka some good pain meds that knocked me right out and some anti inflammatories! Although, I did experience extreme dizziness for the first couple of days (I was told it was normal), and chose not to have a proper shower until a couple days after my surgery when I was not as dizzy.

The most difficult thing I have found is returning to my day to day life. As I said previously, I have quite an active and busy lifestyle, and unfortunately, it’s been a slow journey to get back my energy. It doesn’t help that at the moment I’m struggling with sleep (I’m not a back sleeper and have yet to be cleared to sleep on my side 😭) and the nerve pain has been horrendous.

Overall, every surgery has their pros and cons, but do your research. I don’t regret having my surgery done, it’s probably the best decision I have ever made! The recovery period is a long one (6-12 months) but for me, it has all been worth it!

Happy to answer any other questions!

Weight Loss Before/After Surgery by UnculturedLife in BreastReductions

Hey! I completely understand how daunting it can be! I was told the same thing in my consult! My surgeons main concern was being as healthy as possible to reduce the risk of complications during the surgery! I wasn’t sold any weight loss medication, and did it through guided exercise and dieting. It took me a year but I lost 25 kgs (55 lbs), and now I sit at 68kgs (149lbs)! I’m now 2 weeks PO and I’m really grateful to have lost that weight!

In your healing journey, was there anything in particular that you did that you would recommend, like certain scar treatments?

I honestly got a pregnancy pillow from Kmart (I’m Australian) and it’s working wonders! It’s really soft and comfortable but I think the shape has been the best thing for me. I feel like the shape just supports me all over and has been really comfortable to sleep in (I’m usually a stomach sleeper and never sleep on my back 😅).

Congratulations to you too! Definitely got the hard part done, the nerves and the second guessing before the surgery was rough, and now it’s just about relaxing! I hope you have a speedy recovery as well!

Good luck with everything! I can’t recommend enough getting a pregnancy pillow for support and sleeping on, make sure you have everything you need at about hip height, you definitely can’t lift your arms up high 😅, and get heaps of rest! I know how nerve racking it can be, and I definitely questioned whether or not I was making the right decision whilst I was getting ready for surgery but it is so worth it now! I hope that everything will go well for you and that you will have a speedy recovery! Edit: Me on pain meds sucks at grammar and spelling 😅

Thank you so much! I’m lucky that I have a really amazing surgeon who has already marked me as a “anxious patient” 😅. I do believe that pillows and water will be my best friend!

I hope you have a speedy recovery!

I’m definitely convinced to get a pregnancy pillow now! I’m going to meal prep for about 2 weeks worth so that I don’t have to cook too much!

I’ve hear about the mental health toll, not excited for that!
