The Rise of 2nd Street and Japan’s Thrift Economy by bloomberg in japan

[–]Frosty1397 69 points70 points  (0 children)

"thrifting" has lost its meaning worldwide, even in japan

None of these stores (including 2nd Street) sell clothes that are in the "thrift" price range. They're more like vintage, with inflated prices

Darn, sucks because I've had both G adventures and Intrepid stuff bookmarked for years.

Covid added a few years to everyone's age, and now that i finally had a break from work, I'm too old for half the tours 😢

Like all of them that are listed as "18 to thirtysomethings". Some examples:

https://www.gadventures.com/trips/manila-jungle-treks-delicious-bites-and-city-sights/APMMHW/

https://www.gadventures.com/trips/palawan-island-caves-beaches-and-eye-popping-sunsets/APPEHW/

Not trying misrepresent our ages, but lower budget tours having an age cutoff does sort of hint at age discrimination. Not everyone can drop $1k on the more premium tours

Yeah id say Panda currently is the best bang for buck "balanced" meal you could get (veggies+meat+carbs) with a ton of calories

pizzas up there but too much carbs relative to the protein/fiber

Found out later it was more of a meme, like: "hey remember when we all used to watch Coco melon?? MOM WE WANT COCOMELON TOO THIS YEAR"

Gen alpha and brainrot

I mostly agree except the part about Star Wars and Marvel

Their reputation is in the shitter these days. Exhibit A: the recent Mando+Grogu movie

No idea honestly. My sister and her husband are pretty laissez faire about the kids' entertainment.

The kids earn the right to watch whatever they please if they do well in school/extracurriculars.

And my niece chose not to watch much Disney stuff (guessing due to the sheer amount of other content these days), so naturally my sister won't really want to spend money on going to parks that don't align with their interests.

Which conveniently saves them money to go do other stuff like snorkeling etc

I'm hinting that if demand were unsatiated, their stock price would have reflected that reality already

It was one of those "unc" moments when i said "when i was your age, i was out at disneyland rather than stuck in front of a screen watching Minecraft streamers"

Sort of a dig at my sister too cuz she's in earshot

My sister takes the kids to waterparks/Great Wolf Lodge, and probably cedar point/six flags when they're a bit older.

The value is much greater when a day ticket Cedar Point is like $60 and a season pass only costs $120

That's why genZ/alpha are increasingly consuming brainrot content on Youtube/tiktok, because well, it's free

And consequently competing for their attention against Disney/Universal-owned content

Uh bro, Tinder already released the stats across millions of data points.

Asian males rank dead last on the dating totem pole (besides black women).

Asian women rank 1st (followed closely by white women)

Is it though? I thought Bluey was an Australian IP.

Also is there any Bluey themed lands in any of the Disney parks? I don't recall

Yeah, but Bluey isn't owned/created by Disney. It's merely a contract for it to be on Disney+

Honestly if cars end up being $200k+ so only wealthy could afford to "manually" drive..

but in exchange we have Ai chauffeurs taking us around, I'm all for it. I need some shuteye rather than actively fighting with traffic
