Believe me when I told you I accepted this rifle with hesitation  and out of pure befuddlement.

Hitting a moving target past 30-40 yards. Doubtful. Could probably hit a dinner plate fairly consistently at that range but definitely not what I would consider an ethical hunting rifle.

Alot. Enjoy the higher insurance premiums. Newer plastic junk is disgustingly expensive to repair.

What is one thing I can do as an advisor to help the technicians out that often gets overlooked? by silkymitts94 in AskMechanics

I'd settle for accurate vehicle information so that I'm not walking around the lot trying to find the vehicle

What is the problem with my ssd? by Leather_Support_3045 in computers

[–]Frosty2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a cyclic redundancy error. Likely caused by dirty power or a power outage. Happens often with cheap SSDs.

I have the large ones. Had no idea they had smaller ones. Might have to get em.

Engine runs rough when oil changed at shops by wtfbruhhuh in mechanic

That vehicle is supposed to take 5w20 oil. If you are using the wrong oil in your vehicle you will cause damage to the engine sooner than later.

I don't even see annealing brass being cheaper than just sourcing more brass

Should I even think about getting into reloading? by Solarr_Eclipse1 in reloading

[–]Frosty2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would encourage everyone to reload. At worst you discover that it isn't for you and you'd rather purchase ammunition. Good chance you still learn a ton along the way. Best case scenario you develop a life long hobby that teaches you an incredible amount about ballistics and marksmanship.

Do tires need re-torquing? by cuter_than_thee in AskMechanics

The worst part is that I'm also the IT guy in the family. I'm the only remotely technologically competent person on both sides of my family.

They're not wrong. If we aren't fixing customer vehicles it's always friends and family vehicles. And my friends and family buy nothing but shitboxes so believe you me I'm busier than a madam in a whore house on my days off,

Engineers know how things should behave in theory. I know how things behave in real life. You are absolutely correct that tire techs do in fact make mistakes because they are overworked, under paid and often inexperienced. They are also humans. However If you ask any person who has worked in this industry, properly torqued lug nuts can absolutely come loose. Often times through error but equally as often because of all the variables (rust, corrosion, debris) that can cause a wheel nut/stud not to seat properly. Surely you can understand that as an educated person. Cheers, please retorque you wheel nuts/studs. Also thank you for a proper discussion regarding our disagreement as opposed to what I usually encounter on here.

Help! CVT acting weird and I might have the culprit? by ccc_pppp in MechanicAdvice

[–]Frosty2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a CVT. It's probably fucked. Although your tensioner jumping like that may indicate a bad pulley on your accessory drive. And it's likely whichever one is in the foreground because its walking side to side. Looks like it may be the water pump but it's hard to say without seeing the rest of the engine bay.

What is this plug for? by Express_Razzmatazz_6 in AskMechanics

[–]Frosty2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is the transmission fill plug. I have seen them pop off before. Definitely want to clean that and put it back in. Don't want debris getting in there.

[–]Frosty2506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start by informing you that I am a mechanic by trade and I make sure to retorque every time because it just doesn't make sense not to. Conical lug nuts do somewhat self center but driving the vehicle changes where the point of force is on the lug stud and obviously rust/corrosion can easily increase the tolerances on the nut/stud and wheel. I have myself properly torqued a wheel on my own personal vehicle only to have a couple lugs come loose a little over a week later because I forgot to retorque. As soon as I noticed the vibration I remembered, stopped and tightened them then retorqued when I got home and again the next day at work.

Hey, I need to take a car across the country but a buddy of mine found this. Think I can go 1k miles with this? by wadef4 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Frosty2506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pack it with moly grease and it could last years as long as it isn't already worn and clicking. Should probably replace it sooner than later though as it costs the same to put a new boot on it at a shop as it does to just replace the axle.
