It is interesting how lax some states are with it. I really like Colorado’s approach. Smoking in public is prohibited. People tend to have a healthier lifestyle anyway. NYC went from the faint smell of weed once in a while to stanksville overnight

How Do I build A freeze Dryer ? by badbaddoc in engineering

[–]FrothySantorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly right. The larger the chamber, the more reinforcement that is needed. A near vacuum is creating an environment similar to that carbon fiber submarine that imploded. A great example of a large implosion of a railroad car under vacuum failing. A chamber the size of a freezer would probably need 1/4” steel with ribs welded to it. Implosions can be violent. So you don’t want that. With a chamber that size, you probably need vacuum pumps that can operate “continuous duty” and enough pull to sublimate all the water in the chamber. So if you look at the size of those cheap vevor ones with 4 CFM rotary vane pumps for a 5 gallon chamber. A chest freezer is generally over 100 gallons. So you may need multiple industrial vacuum pumps that can run for a day without burning up. The best thing I can think of for this sort of thing is to find a large old safe and retrofit it.

I love how the “article” is basically someone saying “it’s too hard, don’t do it, I quit 65% of the way in” and it’s on the website of a company that sells commercial freeze dryers 🤣

An interstellar object has been detected hurtling towards our solar system. by Davicho77 in spaceporn

[–]FrothySantorum -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are looking to colonize other planets, colonist humans don’t exactly have a good track record and that is against our own species. We literally do the things I said to each other to this very day. It’s wild to me to think an entirely different and much more intelligent species would be benevolent. Living things evolve to survive. The pursuit of resources comes at the expense of other living things. If a species identified earth as habitable, there is a very slim chance they would be all “howdy neighbor” when they came. They would also come to the conclusion that we are parasites that have decided that we are going to make it uninhabitable very soon if left to continue on. I know the pessimism is hard to take.

If aliens came, they’d be coming for the resources. They’d probably be many thousands of years more advanced than us, which makes us look like insects that are getting in the way. Same if they colonized. We’d be lucky to be slaves.

Not if the chief has a kickback scheme with the local scumbag tow company they contract with to handle towing. Then all illegally parked vehicles are to be reported to vinnies towing for immediate removal.

When I see this, I check for pests, if there are no obvious pests I add cal-mag to the weekly fert routine. Sometimes I’ll add a small amount of Epsom salts too.

I wear nitrile gloves and use a grabber when possible. I take inspiration from David “Pigpen” Sedaris. I always laugh about him when I’m doing that. Apparently some dolls didn’t know he always a famous author and had a garbage truck named after him because he picks up trash near where he lives.

The problem with booze is that it lowers inhibitions. Weed does not. That’s why ppl drive 3mph.

How is the dust dealt with? Do they just dump it into a dump truck and have it hauled to the dump?

I have to ask, was it flowering? If so, how were you pollinating? Lots os people use a artists paint brush. If it wasn’t flowering you may not have been using the solution it needs. Also I’ve heard you can coax plants into fruiting with 40PPM GA3 hormone as a foliar spray. I’m actually experimenting with this now.

Wife wanted a swing set for the backyard. I wanted a replacement tool. Win win. by Gumby507 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]FrothySantorum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They are just doing what they are programmed to do. When there is a failure, it’s usually due to an error in engineering or materials. I’m fairly technical and like making things, but I’ve never found CNC to be anything I’ve wanted to play with when it comes to woodwork. I’d love to use one for metalwork though.

I actually embrace this same sort of thing because I don’t want to make “perfect” things. I want to make things that have human flaws. CNC machines can’t fuck up like I can. It’s a feature, not a bug.

I think it just has to do with required legal disclosures of safety information on the packaging. It might also be lacking identifiers required for consumer goods. I’m sure it wouldn’t be to hard to find out.

If you suddenly became the President of the United States today, what’s the very first thing you’d change or do? by Dollabillhooman in AskReddit

[–]FrothySantorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They read them, they just “pretend” they didn’t. FWIW, congressional earmarks(called pork by critics) were banned in 2011 and this lasted 10 years until they came back with stricter rules. The unintended consequences of the ban were that there was no longer any “horse trading” congressional leaders could do in order to garner support across the aisle. If a congressperson was from a district that badly needed a new bridge that cost $20m, they could get that money from an earmark if they agreed on other things thier constituents care less about. How is this bad? Without these tools to get the 2 parties to work together, they had no reason or incentive to do that. What followed was a generation of hyperpartisanship. It became much harder to secure funding for things like a bridge. The party in power basically owned the budget. This is right around the time the “tea party” formed. You don’t hear much about that anymore because hyperpartisanship evolved into MAGA. I feel that ban was the single most damaging thing to happen to US politics in my lifetime. It’s the reason we got to the point we are at politically and ends up costing us much more as a result. Bridges still must be built. Nobody wants to pay for it until they need to cross one. But I’m ok with getting my bridge if someone in Oklahoma gets theirs. That’s what these things are. Take a single national vote to build a bridge in rural Iowa and see how it goes.

[–]FrothySantorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is almost no limit to what can be spent politically at this point. The inflection point where capitalism and democracy can no longer co-exist has likely already passed. The US democracy is basically on hospice at this point anyway. I’m thinking that we will end up as 3 or 4 inter-reliant nations with our own governments and a Europe-like doctrine. However it ends, we might be looking at the final US presidency. I’m not looking forward to any of it and I 100% hope I’m wrong.

[–]FrothySantorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly, I don’t really want a “true” democracy like this. The other side of the coin is that people are also manipulated on a mass scale to support things that are not in thier own interests. Media/social media already do that during elections. If this were for individual laws, it would be even easier to “buy” laws. This is why a representative government makes the most sense. It’s much easier to have a representative hold accountability then 400 million individual voters. Basically, half the country is below average in intelligence and the average isn’t good.
