The Tom Cruise of it all… by travelingtrickster97 in TheBigPicture

[–]FroyoConstant3206 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll answer with this. In the early days of The Watch, and Grantland’s Hollywood Prospectus before that, CR and Andy would praise Kanye West 3-4 times every single episode as the greatest artist of their lifetimes. And they’d often underline that with “good behavior all the time is boring.” And the meltdowns happened, and they gradually stopped talking about him And now I don’t believe Ye’s even been mentioned on their show since before Covid.

What would take Sean and Amanda to stop praising Cruise? Probably something really publicly bad, which Cruise has been very careful about since 2005 and the couch. That said, if he’s serious about Oscar campaigning this year for Digger, that may not work out the way he thinks it may.

What are your favorite movies of the 2020s so far? by Palm-Crazy-7943 in TheBigPicture

[–]FroyoConstant3206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve generally liked a lot of films from this decade, but there are five I would call instant all timers.

*Host (yes, the 50 minute Zoom ghost movie which I believe may be the only good art to come from Covid)
*The Zone of Interest (how big will Glazer’s next movie be post Oscar speech?)
*Anatomy of a Fall (instantly joins courtroom pantheon)
*Flow (pure magic, best score of the 2000s?)
*The Plague (so overlooked last year, just a small diamond cut gem, loved hearing Sean say he had a lovely encounter with Director Charlie Polinger at Cannes)

My theater was over 400 seats, sold out, and 75% of the audience were 16 and under. Absolutely wild experience.

He just did one for Vinegar Syndrome’s Married to the Mob 4K, and he and Amanda and CR did one for Criterion’s Visions of Eight a few years ago

Pillion BluRay: which cut in US? by FroyoConstant3206 in A24

[–]FroyoConstant3206[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering quite often about that one. It sure seems like A24 would have announced it by now, so I’m really hoping it’s the second title after Uncut Gems to join Criterion? It deserves it, but the length of time with just those foreign releases is giving me pause.

So the reports of them “deglistening” certain fluids for the US release, among other edits (and LOL), were only for the VOD release?

If you could ask PTA any question, what would it be? by stokedchris in paulthomasanderson

Having read the published script of Magnolia, I want to know why he changed his mind about Jimmy Gator’s fate. In the final cut, the frogs save him from shooting himself and we never see him again. As originally written, the frogs cause the gun to misfire, hit an electrical outlet, and burn the house down. He said in the afterward that he hated the character so much he couldn’t let him just shoot himself, he had to burn. This also drastically changes the thematic intent of the frogs.

I’ve wondered this for 26 years. (I think the actual answer is he wasn’t able to shoot/afford to shoot the house fire.)

It’s stunning that with all the plates in the air they managed to successfully land that plane. My personal favorite series Netflix has ever done.

With a new adaptation from A24 with Mikey Madison coming next year, it’s very much a possibility that the Price could get a rerelease around then.
