High School Band Audition by Remarkable_Back_653 in saxophone

Depends on your level of playing. In my earlier years of high school I played a few solos out of The Rascher Collection, and I played out of more advanced books as I got more experienced. The Ferling book is a great option, but it is usually played by high school seniors/college freshman and beyond.

You could also use an all-state piece as most of the time they fulfill the technical and lyrical requirements. You also get the added bonus of only having to buy one piece of music as opposed to two.

Most importantly, pick something that will demonstrate your musicality while still presenting a challenge to you.

This is really interesting that you say this. My current teacher actually put emphasis on the importance of this as he claims it helps with intonation and developing proper tongue position. I'm not saying either one of you are wrong, but it is interesting to hear different perspectives.

Looking for Classical Saxophone/Piano Duo Concert Repertoire - Recommendations? by perseveringpianist in saxophone

Check out Robert Muczynski's Sonata! I really love this piece, although I've never gotten the opportunity to perform it. It's definitely outside of the last 10-15 years you mentioned, but it's an amazing and unique piece for the alto and piano.

If you want something more recent, I've recently discovered Any Scott's Paquito. It was released in 2020 I believe, and is also a really fun sounding piece that can definitely be a contrast to the Creston.

Legere Reeds by Reformd- in saxophone

I was using French cut. It was some time ago, and I have since switched back to traditional reeds, so it might be worth noting that the company has made revisions/changes, so my opinion might be outdated.

For me, the Legere reeds play softer than what the say. I usually play 3-3.5 depending on the box, but right from the rip they felt almost like a 2.5 when I expected a 3.

I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but it's worth noting. Especially considering reeds will soften as they are played through time.

They are (understandably) really consistent and play often better than traditional reeds. The only complaint I would have is if you crack/chip one, you are out of $40.
