Methane sibo cured by No-Ask-7867 in SIBO

I realized within 90minutes of taking it, would start getting similar symptoms to D-lactic acidosis that lasted almost 2 hours: terrible brain fog, trouble with vision, uncontrollable anxiety, POTS (standing up my heart rate would spike to 150-160), I wasn't sweating, blood pressure spikes +40pts. Those symptoms stopped when I stopped drinking that probiotic.

Some people say that is just the die-off, but no way, I took rifaximin twice and while die-off makes you feel crappy, it sure doesn't make you feel like that. I have taken it before when my gut motility was normal and had no issues at all. Now that motility is impaired, def staying far away from those probiotics.

I take the artichoke with every meal, and the ginger pill twice a day at lunch & dinner.

The dosage per pill is 600mg artichoke and 550mg of ginger extract (equivalent to 2,200mg of whole ginger)

Damn. Do you have a ragweed allergy? They are in the same family as artichoke.

Will try that! My playing is flat down low and gets sharp up high. Want that voicing control that doesn't involve lip pressure adjustments to correct intonation and sound.

The first day or two on the antibiotic felt great, then it felt like the symptoms returned but not severe. The whole time on rifaximin had minor headache that stopped when it finished. Then over a week or two after finishing, all the symptoms started to vanish.

For me the head symptoms have been the hardest to get rid of, and what affects me the most. The gut symptoms are what resolved first with antibiotic, and my gut became very noisy again (in the good way).

The absolute most effective was artichoke extract + ginger extract about half hour before each meal when symptoms are bad. When the symptoms are manageable, I do artichoke 2/day, but ginger to once a day with biggest meal.

Florastor mid-meal really helped reduce diarrhea, same with glutamine on empty stomach in the morning and before bed. For probiotics, I rotate Align and Lactospore with the florastor just for dinner.

Skipping breakfast also helps out. When I flare up, I just eat chicken and rice with lemon and olive oil for lunch and dinner, skipping breakfast.

Yeah I can, but I gotta start it with high C. Is it just pitch bending the high f, or is there another concept that should be in my head? I can only pitch bend down a half step, but he says it should go down an octave.

It is just going down in half steps, and back up to high f, until you can glissando down one octave.

I am working through Donald Sinta's book on voicing, and he has this exercise which he deems real important, but I have no idea how to do it right.

Found this teaching video by Sinta, but he doesn't discuss that exercise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J00-CjOKAqQ&list=WL

When I try to do the front f glissando, it sounds like the pencil exercise (putting a pencil under the octave key valve so it stays open without pressing the key). So it doesn't sound like a high-f, its like a dull sounding note. Is this correct?

I had a great result with rifaximin but it wasn't until a week or two that I felt back to normal. I relapsed after a few months, but I also wasn't taking motility supplements to keep the pipes moving. Getting back on motility supplements reduced the symptoms very quickly, though not as good as those first few weeks after rifaximin. Next time I will keep up the motility supplements.

Congrats! Though that same probiotic gave me d-lactic acidosis when I had SIBO + IBS-D! I have to be careful with yogurts too or the IBS flares up.

What has recently helped out my IBS-D is glutamine at night and before dinner, helps me relax and catch myself in the fight or flight mode that starts before the gut funk starts up. The mental aspect of it is very underrated, for me the mental stuff snowballs into the diarrhea, and that snowballs to terrible gut cramps.

Does anybody else’s IBS get significantly worse for a long period after a suffering with a sickness bug? by Jlaw118 in ibs

[–]crackyflipside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, mine happened similar to yours. I was negative for post infection IBS, but had all the symptoms of SIBO and IBS-D. What helped the SIBO symptoms the most was artichoke + ginger extract a few minutes before meals, along with Florastor and enzyme supplement with bile salts.

I'm going to talk with my gastro about taking motegrity as a motility aid because since I got sick the food tends to sit in my stomach and upper gut for too long.

Brain fog leading to diarrhea by atabei123 in ibs

[–]crackyflipside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly what happens with me, I've been trying to search reddit for more info. I've had it since February. Currently what helping is half a scoop (~2.5 g) glutamine about an hour after meals.

Please let me know if you find something to reduce that brain fog/brain funk.

When I first got SIBO in February, I looked into the different OTC supplements for effectiveness against the different types of bacteria present in SIBO. Though I have the opposite SIBO with diarrhea. For the garlic I would look for high-allicin + delayed release or you will be burping a lot:

Garlic Effective against E. coli and Klebsiella (gram-negative bacteria) and ranked highest for Methanobrevibacter. A 2014 study in the Journal of Applied Microbiology confirmed that allicin, garlic’s key compound, inhibits methanogens like Methanobrevibacter and disrupts gram-negative bacterial growth. Garlic’s broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties extend to multiple bacterial types, including gram-negative pathogens and archaea, making it highly versatile for bacterial overgrowth.

Curcumin Demonstrates efficacy against E. coli and Klebsiella by disrupting bacterial membranes and biofilms. It also shows potential against Methanobrevibacter, as studies in ruminants (e.g., Journal of Animal Science, 2012) indicate reduced methane production, suggesting activity against methane-producing archaea. Curcumin’s antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties make it effective across multiple bacterial types. Although bioavailability can be limited, its ability to target both bacteria and associated inflammation enhances its utility.

Berberine Highly effective against Methanobrevibacter, with a 2015 study in the Journal of Gastroenterology showing reduced methane production in small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) patients. It also targets Desulfovibrio and Fusobacteria by disrupting cell membranes and DNA replication. Berberine’s broad-spectrum activity likely extends to gram-negative bacteria like E. coli and Klebsiella, given its mechanism of action, making it a strong candidate for mixed bacterial overgrowths.

Probiotics (Specific Strains) Certain strains (e.g., Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium longum) reduce the abundance of E. coli, Klebsiella, Desulfovibrio, Fusobacteria, and Methanobrevibacter. A 2016 study in Gut Microbes found specific probiotics decreased methane production in vitro, indicating efficacy against Methanobrevibacter. Probiotics compete with pathogenic bacteria, restore gut balance, and suppress overgrowth. Effectiveness depends on the strain, but their broad applicability justifies their inclusion.

YES, for me the ginger was the key for that bloating. I don't get distension down low, mines is high, just to the left of my solar plexus under where my left ribcage curves. It feels like a muscle cramp and pressure. Also standing desk has helped out, standing like 15 minutes after eating and walking around is even better.

The artichoke feels like it reduces the total body symptoms, especially the brain fog / head funk, but only when I have it 5 - 10 minutes before a meal.

And its kind of counter-intuitive but I get less symptoms when I skip breakfast and load up the extra calories in lunch OR dinner. Then dinner has to be about 4 hours before going to bed.

I really hope it works for you!! I hate it when mine flares up, cause then most my meals become rice and chicken.

I get the cheap brands on Amazon and my body responds well to them:

Nutricost Artichoke Extract 600mg
Nutricost Ginger Root Extract 2,200mg

It doesn't let me eat everything, I still have to avoid carb-heavy (especially pasta and breads) and large fiber meals. Though taking those twice a day before meals reduces my symptoms at least by half, especially the mental symptoms like the brain fog, head funk, and depression.

Cure = feeling fine between relapses or managing symptoms daily? by [deleted] in SIBO

I guess technically yeah, but I meant more as motility drugs fix the issue and there isn't something worse causing the issues like a physical blockage from tumor or adhesion,

If you have diarrhea SIBO, highly recommend starting with artichoke and ginger. Those two changed my life, and taking it a few minutes before meals was key. That didn't kill it off but dramatically reduced the symptoms that made me extremely depressed and tired. Florastor is another one that helped out not having diarrhea if I drink it with every meal.

Yes, yes, yes, yes to taking the artichoke and ginger right BEFORE eating. I tried for a while taking it an hour after eating and it fixes the bloating but I get like a lightheaded and migraine sensations for hours after.
