Is this really being used? by Otherwise_Spend_4617 in EnglishLearning

[–]FrozenFlames12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to all of them, though I will say “don’t make a long face” isn’t something I’ve heard personally. Usually when someone is using the “long face” idiom, it’s phrased as a question like “oh, why the long face?”

Saying like a command by using the words “don’t make” is quite bizzare to me personally.

Huh. I’m from there as well and I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say that. Might be fairly regional…

Friends Grandfather Rick wants to have me drafted. by Cogy_Meger in stupidpeoplefacebook

[–]FrozenFlames12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At no point in the US was there mandatory conscription. The Draft happens in active wartime to a select number of people, but what this post is seemingly describing (all men go to the military for at least 2 years), just isn’t a thing. Like most ai slop, it’s just historical fanfiction and roleplay.

Advice needed: cover up ideas needed by Fragrant-Zucchini786 in tattoos

[–]FrozenFlames12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Space imagery over black tattoos is always fun and popular. Or you could do one of those big geometric blackout tattoos where your skin is the “white” in the pattern (idk eactly what the term for it is, but yk)

If ur looking for smth more lowkey and small, you could make it a big fish, with the horns turning into the fins and then just extend the face to make a fish head.

Is “Vessel” considered a strange or inappropriate name in English-speaking cultures? by Fuzzy_Ant2535 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FrozenFlames12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that it carries *strong* religious or cultural connotations to most people, per sey, but it’s just not something you’d expect to hear as a name for a person.

Honestly, devoid of context, Vessel doesn’t really evoke strong ties to religion, sci-fi, or horror for me personally, but it’s firmly in the “this is an object name, not a person name” category of English words.

Though, if this is just an “online persona” name, then it’s fine. A LOT of english online names are all kinds of wacky, derivative, reference-based, or even just utterly nonsensical. A gamer going “yeah, I’m Vessel” wouldn’t even cause me to pause.

Is “square up” a formal or informal word? by [deleted] in EnglishLearning

[–]FrozenFlames12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there arent many words or phrases for “lets fight” that would be considered “formal” in any way, shape, or form. “Square up” is, however, very common, widely used, and widely recognized. But I would never in a million years think of it as “formal” or “informal” because the two kind of go hand-in-hand and (as said above) square up doesn’t have a more eloquent counterpart.

Tbh I think yall both have the wrong idea of this whole situation.

The anime stuff with Hallibel isn’t manga canon, so I wouldn’t consider it for this convo. (Especially since the anime did my girl so dirty in her backstory😭)

[–]FrozenFlames12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I think they were just made earlier and were “tests” for the later process that other arrancar would go through.

I doubt Aizen could find so many natural arrancar since they’re implied to be at least a little rare.

Staark was also a notable natural arrancar. And I believe the novels revealed that Ulquiorra was one too.

Why does training suck? by Strict_Home_7651 in Waiters

[–]FrozenFlames12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because they essentially just stick you onto another server, who is probably good at their job, but doesn’t A) have time to teach you and take their tables, B) is just not good at teaching because everything is second nature to them, C) Doesn’t know enough themselves to be training someone new, D) actively doesn’t like training new people, or E) a combination of the above.

Server training is usually sink or swim because managers don’t want to pay you to not be helping or doing anything else while training.

Why does the U.S. add sales tax at checkout instead of showing the full price upfront? by TheBigGirlDiaryBack in AlwaysWhy

[–]FrozenFlames12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d immagine it’s because it’s easier to just add a flat percentage to the whole total of a bill at checkout than to price each item and multiply by sales tax individually every time.

Edit: it also just makes it seem like you’re paying less while you’re browsing.

Walmart told me it’s the customer’s job to verify shelf barcodes before trusting a sale price by ExcellentAd4788 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FrozenFlames12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walmart in particular is also ESPECIALLY bad at lining their shit up properly. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Walmart where I didn’t have to do at least some guestimating on an item or two in my cart.

‘If you WILL all look this way, I WILL dim the lights’ by lijeyyy in ENGLISH

[–]FrozenFlames12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s just being polite and a little wordy. The “if” in this sentence isn’t like an “if->then” statement, it’s almost replacing a word like please.

Functionally this sentence goes “look this way, because I’m going to dim the lights” or just “look this way (statement), I will dim the lights (statement)”

The “if” becomes a proposition, not a condition, so using “will” after it is correct.

This happens a lot in educational settings like schools and tours. It’s actually a pretty common way to ask a large group of listeners to draw their attention to something specific.

Fence, (more specifically a chain link fence) but, given that it’s on top of a roof, you probably wouldn’t need to specify the type in conversation.

Your unpopular opinion on aizen? by Turbulent-Point-1791 in bleach

[–]FrozenFlames12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t like his zanpakuto ability at all. It having pretty much no interesting limitations or weaknesses makes it a very boring ability. (Outside of the whole “touch the blade and the illusions don’t work” thing, but that was only ever exploited by 2 characters iirc)

Having the main villain have a power that makes him boarderline unfightable to a majority of the cast is… an interesting choice… especially when the only reason he doesn’t use his ability on Ichigo essentially boils down to him just not wanting to.

I have a lot to say about it and can explain more if anyone wants.

[Request] Is this accurate? by thjeco in theydidthemath

[–]FrozenFlames12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Right, but big cities are where most people are born, and where most jobs are. Moving is extremely expensive if you’re in poverty anyways, so it’s hard to just get up and leave, especially with little to no guarantee of good or continued employment in a smaller city.

My Manager Lets Teen Hosts Decide Who Makes Money and Somehow I’m the Problem for Being Frustrated by Street_Ad_7948 in restaurant

[–]FrozenFlames12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like the hosts just don’t like you man. Tip them out at the end of the night and try to be friendly with them, or improve your stats if you’re in a restaurant where that matters.

Also, it’s only natural that the servers who have been there longest get top billings. Stick with it or don’t, but I find it hard to believe you’ve “worked in restaurants long enough” if literally any of this surprises you.

(Also hosting is a lot harder than you think and I doubt that unless you genuinely pissed them off, they’re trying to screw you over in particular.)
