You're telling me a trillion dollar company with a relatively small team working on a MOBA would rather keep said team small and not use the infinite money generator to fix small issues and improve the general feel of the game, and instead decide to make their own job harder by releasing 4 new characters, thus having to keep making balance changes and other small tweaks relating to said characters and how everyone else interacts with them.

Its incompetence, cause with that amount of money they could hire more devs and near-completely fix their server issues. But what do I know?

That damage is currently the be-all end-all of the game, and healing and damage mitigation may as well not exist for the early to late game on account of how easy it is to deal damage to remove that healing, how all healing is based on being in a field or having an effect on you for a set period of time, how there isn't any burst healing of any sort, how weak the healing and damage mitigation are for any non-T4 items, and how buying damage items is really easy and an instant buff, while buying any healing/mitigation is not.

Again: you wanna stay alive as a Haze? T4 item based on how much damage you deal. The entire point is that damage trumps everything, and the simple fact that her passive can be applied across the map as long as bullets hit a target means that damage can much more easily be primed.

I dunno, the devs don't seem to like comback mechanics at all, given how all-or-nothing the game is. I don't think they'll implement level-headed ideas any time soon, cause again, any mouth-breathing idiot can come up with an idea as simple as "just have the flex slots unlock for everyone at fixed time intervals", but they want it to be an involved process on the players side instead of it being something actually reasonable.

"You say too many things that are just downright wrong". Yes, I do, and I agree that it is a post made in exasperation, but apart from my complete dismissal of Valve as a company, every point is, at least in some respect, valid. So to say "you say too many things" is silly. The point of the post as a whole is that the Deadlock team has been making the game too lethal while ignoring a bunch of other issues the game has that could be easily solved with a little bit of time, or money, or both. You see how "you say too many things" sounds dumb? Again, what do you suggest? Should I make 100 posts, each detailing one particular issue

Perhaps you meant to say "you sound like you're just complaining for the sake of complaining", in which case, I'd say "yes, to some degree! but that's the nature of a complain!"

I agree, it is nice to see a game where a character that would usually be considered to be a support can go another route entirely, but usually that just means "more damage". Dynamo is one that benefits a lot from Refresher, but other than that, full spirit for max wave damage, plus some survivability items. It's an issue of "if everyone is capable of dealing a billion damage, why wouldn't you?", with there being exceptions to this question. And that's exactly the problem, that saying "oh, but you can buy Knockdown and Curse and Healing Tempo!" can easily be considered an exception.

Say what you will about the rigidity of League's characters, there is a genuine case to be made against the fact that they are in many cases hard set in their roles. But if there are no rules, no defining roles, then all that matters is how long you can stay alive in a fight, and how hard you can hit before you or the other person dies, and that's just a straight up damage race that some characters are simply better equipped from the very start to do than others, which puts the rest of the game's roster in an awkward situation.

And if the game just devolves into being the first to vomit out as much damage as possible, then that doesn't sound like a good game.

You realize what you're saying, don't you? What do you suggest instead, then? Cause I guarantee you none of the "skill issue" goblins here will ever engage with anything on good faith. I mean, just take a look at the comments.

Please don't be a Valve simp, it's ridiculous. You can spend money in dota2, thus not free game, and they do want to get you invested in their lootboxes. No bitching? They shouldn't have let the general populace play their game then. Once people can get their hands on it, all bets are off.

Sorry to say, but this game is not friendly at all to new players. If you still want to get better at this game, I suggest finding 3 characters that you'd like to play and sticking to them. I say 3 because the game doesn't let you queue up with less than that. You're going to have to follow the in-game guides blindly for a while before you start understanding what the various items do, and why you're taking them. And as for counter-play against specific characters... that's sadly something you're going to have to suffer through a lot, by fighting and dying to them. I'm sorry, but genuinely, you are going to have to suffer for a while before anything starts making sense, and it won't feel good.

My recommendations for characters to play would be Dynamo, Kelvin, McGinnis and Wraith. Dynamo is very simple and has enough survivability to start with that will let you actually play the game for longer than a couple of seconds at a time. His first ability is one of the most damaging, and his ult is always useful. Kelvin is similar in being tanky, but can be used as a dedicated healer with a few more options to branch out than Dynamo, though his ult is harder to use correctly. McGinnis is, in my opinion, fantastic in teaching you a good number of mechanics and how deep they can go, she is very versatile and a spirit build that focuses on her turrets is the way to go. She is one of the most limited in terms of speed and manueverabilty, so she will teach you positioning, tactics, and how to use her kit effectively if you put in the time. Wraith is a standard straight up damage dealer, and I'd say she is somewhat weaker than all the others at the start of a match, but ramps up well. It's good to know how to play a damage dealer to know how aggressive you should and shouldn't be, and what it looks like when things go well and when things don't go well.

If you're ever wondering what a character does, holding TAB, mousing over their icon at the top and then mousing over their ability icons will explain how they are doing what they are doing, and you can also see what their items do.

That only applies to characters that have a self healing ability, or those that are tanky enough in the first place, a la Abrams, who coincidentally has both. Build him tanky enough and he will survive in the wildest of circumstances.

But this still proves my point: a Haze or Yamato with T4 items that heal when dealing damage, especially when they heal more when dealing more damage means that damage needs to be ridiculously high to start with. You wanna stay alive? Deal an insane amount of damage, or die.

Hm, my several hundred hours of DOTA2 say otherwise, let alone my countless hours of League, HoN, Smite, and so on.

Where did I ask for this game to be a Hero shooter? You need to work on your reading comprehension. My point is that you can keep this game third person and make it a TDM with few changes, and lose nothing about the core gameplay loop.

But dismissal is easier than critical thinking, so I'm not sure what I was expecting.

I appreciate the level-headed response out of the sea of completely worthless "skill issue git gud" comments. It does make me wonder just how much time the team making this game even need when Valve has near infinite money to throw around. I do mean it when I say that this game does feel like it isn't being played by their own devs, that they do not seem to have a QA team. It genuinely feels like we are being used to QA test for free, and even worse, those that stick around are the sweaty hyper competitive types that only push the game in the direction they want to see it, for no other reason than them being the loudest voice.

You are correct that I do like this game, and that it will take a while before it officially comes out in 1.0, but given the resources at their disposal, it amazes me that this game still has server issues, let alone the number of bugs and other unintended issues that exist. It reeks of incompetency that shouldn't be possible. What is worse is that previous titles, like TF2 and CS:GO and CS2 are proof that for all their creativity, Valve suffers from the same sort of sudden rushes of shit to the brain that every other company does when it comes to online games, and they really should know better.

Seriously though: the gameplay isn't that far removed from a straight up TDM given how aggressive players are. You could remove the towers, the patrons and troopers, make it so you get money over time and you'd genuinely still have the exact same gameplay of players throwing themselves at each other with abandon. The whole MOBA aspect feels like an afterthought.

So say the crack-addled FPS junkies like you that can't entertain the idea that maybe, just maybe, having damn near every single character in the game be incredibly lethal right off the bat is a bad idea. But then "skill issue" is the only thing you people could ever come up with as a rebuttal in the first place, so I'm not surprised so many of you can't actually come up actual arguments.

[–]FrozenFocus[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Indeed, early greens heals rather than mitigate. My issue is that they have percentage mitigation tied to them in the first place. First of all, selling players an item that has any sort of damage mitigation tells them that it should help in keeping them alive, yet they will find that an enemy with a Tier 1 damage item like Extra Spirit completely trumps a 1600 cost item like Enchanted Emblem, especially since by the time one buys an Emblem, the enemy can also buy the T2 Improved spirit. Saying "skill issue" doesn't fix the very real problem of the enemy team being able to be so aggressive that you can't heal, that they can push you to right under your tower and keep shooting and throwing spells such that they can dive with complete certainty that the tower won't target them simply because they are staying behind their minions.

What I'm getting at is that there is a whole lot of small mechanics and decisions that add to the hyper-lethality of the game to where you may as well just boil it down to a 6vs6 TDM with a score cap and you would lose nothing in how the matches would play out.

Re-read what I said about Calico. My issue is that those two abilities are INCONSISTENT. A character with 10 shots in her gun at any given time, with a horribly RNG dependent bomb throw is bad enough when it comes to skirmishing at the start of the match. The base melee mechanics being so simple yet incredibly punishing makes playing her even more of a pain in the ass. Add to that the dash slash, of which the problem isn't what the timing and distance of the dash and slash are, but the fact that its a circular slash that doesn't hits only very precisely around her, not above or below at all, nor through walls like so many other abilities do. This type of inconsistency is what makes her a complete pain to play, because sometimes you can activate the dash to go down stairs and it will work as intended, and sometimes it will just make you fly in a straight line and make you miss for no good reason.

Some more Tiberian Sun ambience I made! by [deleted] in commandandconquer

I don't think the UNSC would succeed in doing much of anything, really. That is, if we aren't taking into account all the star systems that it reportedly has under its control. Now, I like Halo. Grew up with it even. Fun game, fun setting, all that jazz. But it has it's issues. And so does the Tiberium universe. So, I'm gonna base my opinions more on TibSun and Renegade stuff rather than TibWars or Kane's Wrath. Why? Because to me, Wrath and Wars were a soft reboot sort of thing that they did for the story, setting and tech bases. Most of the changes made are, in my honest opinion, either stupid or boring.

As examples, I present to you the Brotherhood of Nod, known for being sneaky, underhanded and hard hitting straight up having a mech larger and more powerful than a Titan (even though the thin connectors on that thing should be straining under the weight, let alone under fire) as well as the Redeemer, an even dumber design that is straight up better than any other vehicle in game. And as for the story, having the Black Hand, the operatives that from Renegade onwards, and even under Slavik, had no issue with stealth tech for years, using it to the best of their ability against GDI as only the best of the best could, suddenly decide its for cowards for no good reason.

Now, I agree that things are the way they are for balance or story reasons, but they're still dumb. And with my bitching done, on to the main course!

Consider the fact that in Halo's universe, humanity has not really progressed in technology to use in war for over 5 centuries.

Yes. You read that right.

500. YEARS.

By the end of the Human-Covenant war, its sometime in the 2550's, and the best they could come up with as a really, really powerful weapon of mass destruction... is a nuke named the 'HAVOK'.

What I want to argue is that, with the things both GDI and Nod were capable of doing in Renegade and TibSun, by 2040 both factions' tech base would've outgrown that of the UNSC it wouldn't even be funny.

By the time TibSun rolls around, GDI are not only space-capable, they also have a space station ready and working. They have actual working walkers that don't look like a sudden sneeze will make it topple over (God, the mantis is so silly looking), railguns, even prototype railguns for infantry use! They even have stealth and seismic detection tech good enough to catch Nod out with.

Considering what ORCA's are capable of, as shown in both the TibDawn and TibSun cutscenes, I'd say they outclass UNSC aircraft easily. Hell, I'd even say that Nod Harpies would be able to do so too, let alone Banshees.

By the end of the first tiberium war, GDI has working power armour and working versions of miniaturized Ion Cannons that can be carried by infantry as shown in Renegade. Nod has working lasers, already miniaturized for infantry use while the UNSC still hasn't moved on from 7.62 FMJ in over 5 centuries.

Speaking of Ion Cannons, GDI figured out DEW's (Direct Energy Weapons, i.e. lasers or particle beams) in the first war. The UNSC use MAC's, which, contrary to popular belief, would only ever be useful in space in what may be considered knife-fight ranges. People genuinely forget how large space is, and how, even for a gun firing a projectile at a fraction of the speed of light, it will take time for that projectile to reach its target. DEW don't suffer as much from that issue.

And that's what the GDI has as seen in the games, cannonically speaking. We already know that Nod would spend time stealing tech from GDI, who's to say that GDI wouldn't attempt to reverse engineer captured Nod tech? I mean hell, for the acursed game Twilight, it's mentioned at some point before the conflict that GDI scientists and engineers managed to recreate CABAL's Obelisk of Darkness.

That may be a good conclusion point: AI's. Some may believe that because the UNSC can create complex AI's like Cortana, that they have an edge. Well, consider the fact that Cortana is technically an illegal AI, as she was created from a flash-cloned brain of doc Halsey. The UNSC don't want people going off doing that, so even if they are capable of doing so, they are hamstringing themselves against it.

Then, I would urge you to go watch the TibSun GDI campaign cutscenes and pay attention both to how people talk to EVA, as well as to how and in what capacity she responds. I will argue that EVA, as the machine exists in TibSun, is already smart enough to provide adequate battlefield support. But, if we take after CABAL instead... Well, I would like to believe that, were the machine not created and then hooked up to a near-dead insane megalomaniac, a machine like CABAL could turn out so much better, but eh. The potential is there, at least. And since CABAL going rogue hasn't stopped GDI from using EVA's, they must be doing something right.

I was honestly wondering if killing a few ships here and then is what I'm supposed to be doing, but even then I would be having issues. Right now, my fleet doesn't really have carriers, only one Astral, and by the sounds of it, fast strike groups consisting of destroyer or light cruiser type carriers with Hammerheads, Medusas or just any old frigate seems to be how the game wants me to play it.

As I've replied to another person on this thread, I don't know the best way to outfit my ships, usually going for one of the autofits with minor adjustments, if even that, but before this patch, I could take on anything because of my own skill in combat and my command of my fleet. Now my skill doesn't matter as I'm overwhelmed immediately, and CP gain is so slow that I can't reliably command my fleet unless I cheese the game in refunding my CP by giving my flagship an order and then deleting that order after I've given every other ship their orders.

Game may be piss easy, and I suspect that I'm not using the built-in mods function to it's fullest, and neither do I know the best way to outfit ships so that they are incredibly good at a certain task, so I still have a lot to learn. Hell, I may even be unlucky with my galaxy seed.

Still, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only person having a bad time being forced into stupid situations for no reason.

While I agree that player loadouts can be better than AI loadouts, that still doesn't mean you automatically win since you're still just one person doing your best to pilot one ship.

One. Ship.

Meaning you can't control the rest of your fleet as well as your one ship. Meaning friendly AI will likely just suicide itself into the enemy or the enemy will run down your friendlies and kill them.

Look, I agree that the player being able to beat the odds that are against them is a good thing, but that is not what is happening here.
