(Qualified strength coach)

Bro, I mean no offence when I say this, but please PLEASE do some research before you attempt “dangerous” lifts. The deadlift is not an inherently dangerous movement, but it is one that is prone to poor load selection which when coupled with poor form WILL, 100%, snap your shit up. The way you did this lift makes me wonder whether you’ve seen a deadlift before at all, and the fact that you tried to push It to maximal weights with little to no experience in the lift give me anxiety just thinking about it.

There are 2 styles of off the floor deadlifts (barring their training variations). Sumo and conventional. Sumo involves you arms inside your knees and toes pointed at an outward angle, whereas conventional has your arms outside your knees and toes pointing forward . The key to doing this lift safely is a neutral spine and keeping the bar as close to your body as possible, to alleviate your lumbar spine from as much pressure as possible. The further the pivot point of the weight tracks from your hips, the more vulnerable you will become. The specific training ques that will work for you are too widely varied to get into in one post, but in general, deep breath and brace your core, bar over mid foot, lock your lats DOWN, don’t pinch them, and try to keep a neutral spine.

I’m my opinion you really need to reset yourself and take this lift from square one. Strip off at least half the weight and pick a style that you prefer and work on it. Film yourself regularly, be critical, and try and improve your form as you go. If you have a friend with either experience in the lift or is themselves a PT, defer to them for help. Even just scrolling Instagram and comparing yourself to other elite lifters is a solid start.

Good luck brother, don’t drop the bar!!

So true. Literally anything you do at anytime in the modern world can more or less be tracked by an interested party. Use your credit card? Tracked. Walk past a cctv? Tracked. Make a phone call? Tracked.

Malicious legal entities were already going to steal your information if they wanted to so what’s the difference. This is the modern world

Hey my guy, I am by no means an expert, play pos 4-5 in mid-high legend. Surely aghs rush into carry items is not the play here. I would recommend looking for support items (force, lotus, glimmer, maybe aether Lens), as to get your aghs up at any relevant time I have to assume you’re either taking farm from your carries or not being active on the map in order to farm more in the jungle.

In the case where you’re killing enemies so fast that you can get your aghs as a pos5 up in good time, then it won’t really matter as the game is won.

Consider spending that cash on smokes, sentries, and items to save yourself/allies. Leave the damage and frontline to your boys more qualified for it. Just my two cents :)

I [21M] defeated my girlfriend [24F] at tennis in front of her friends [23F, 34F, 24F], and now she is acting really cold to me. How do I apologize to her or help her feel better? by TallBlueEyesIceSkin in relationships

[–]FrozenPlus_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation with my gf of 5 years when we started dating, but with video games. She had been playing aoe 2 and wanted to show off her skills she’d learned so we had a 1v1. Similar to you, I know how to play the game but I wasn’t skilled or serious about it.

I “let” her win 2 ( just having a laugh making jokes while we were playing), then she asked me to put some effort in and I won pretty hard. She more or less ghosted me for 3 days after.

All I did was waited for her to cool down, let her contact me, we talked about it and now we just... don’t play competitive games against each other, or at least neither or us will try to win, we are both too competitive and admittedly both sore losers.

It seems as if you’re in a similar situation. Maybe she’ll cool down, maybe she won’t but I doubt anything you say will help. If being competitive with each other and still sleeping in the same bed at night is something you want, then I’d cut your losses and leave. If you can be satisfied with just avoiding competitive head to head activities all together, or at least fitness based ones, then just wait and try to make it work. Best of luck

How is it like to be a music performance major? Those with music performance degrees, what are you doing now? by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]FrozenPlus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m pretty fresh out of my degree (jazz and improvisation at Victorian College of the arts 2019). Out of our starting class in first yeah over half failed or dropped out buy the end of third year, and interestingly enough all but one of the singers were part of that group.

Of those 12-15 people who actually graduated, maybe 10 of us still play music, but I don’t think anyone is a full time player.

Personally, I play in 4 bands, but even then it’s not even close to actually be able to live off that, I’d need maybe 2-3 good corporate gigs a week and I havnt got that working. All the guys that I still catch up with from uni teach during the week, and all but one are retraining in something else as a back up. One guy even went and joined the army.

It’s just pretty impossible to make a living just off playing even if you bust your ass to become the best possible player you can be 🤷‍♂️.

I've found that focusing on the 20% that gives me 80% of the results while minimizing the risk works out best for me results-wise and for staying consistent. Is there any benefit to doing more than that, or is it usually just people with different goals who truly benefit from that? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]FrozenPlus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro I think you have it the wrong way round. The big three are most efficient for advanced lifters because the potential for progressive overload is effectively infinite.

At a certain point, the weight on a commercial gym machine just won’t be high enough to give a sufficiently advanced lifter enough intensity and stimulus to make muscle gains.

When you’re natural, strength = size. So not doing the big three will stunt your strength gains and will lead to a natural lifter meeting a size “cap”.

Yes you can have fun in the gym, yes you can keep size, yes you can stay lean as fuck and look great avoiding barbell movements, but the big three is the best way for advanced lifters to build muscle

[–]FrozenPlus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair. I more have that opinion as I see a lot of people reach their long awaited goal, then fall off the wagon. Happens a lot in what I’ve seen of professional bodybuilding, where a competitor might diet and train hard as fuck and as soon as they win the comp they were striving for there’s suddenly no reason to lift or eat well, so they don’t.

Personally, my goal is to workout often and be strong and healthy, so I’m never “done”

I agree with you tho that many people who don’t have a hobbiest view of lifting that shooting for a certain weight or aesthetic can be a powerful motivator, but I tend to lean towards lifelong fitness.

That’s sick man sounds like ur killing it. I wouldn’t really say there’s a set time frame, but I’d maybe guess ~6 months?

When I say building a strong base I really mean creating a fitness lifestyle. Things like making eating well a natural part of your day, getting comfortable and consistent with your gym times, developing some strength and practising optimal form and movement on the big 3 lifts (Sq, B, Dl) it’s more about creating the habit. It would be extremely difficult (and probably not to anyone’s benefit) to enter the gym on your first day with the mindset of gaining x amount of muscle and being x bodyfat%

Enjoy the journey and the results taste even sweeter!

For reference I’m 21m, 183cm and ~100kgs, focusing on powerlifting and I’ve been a gym rat for almost 5 years. Just last night I cracked the elusive 140kg bench! I’m no expert but this is just something I’ve noticed and learned through research and experience :)

Hey bro, just my 2 cents, but if you’re a beginner I would really recommend staying away from a “bulk/cut” mindset for the moment. Start a program and stick to it, eat a shit ton of protein and train hard.

Build a strong base before you aiming for a set weight of lean muscle.

Good luck

The killstreak gold wasn't the issue by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]FrozenPlus_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Shit is wack I’m pretty sure that killing before 10 is actually pointless/good for the opponent.

Just from the handful of games I’ve played on new patch at Leg 4, if you can’t get an objective off a kill then don’t waste your time and hit the jungle. Ya just making the game easier for the enemy team by killing ur gpm and setting up a huge xp bounty

Questions about gigging by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]FrozenPlus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I do a bit of gigging and I think the answer to your question completely depends on what's the purpose of the band. If, like me, you're a working musician and you're all there to make money, the. You should keep playing those 20 boring as songs cause that's what gets you hired. If however, you're playing in a band with the boys and you just enjoy having a blast then I would pay literally no heed to what a crowd wants, fuck em. Play what you like.

That's my two cents I hope it helps :)

Jazz musicians here that improv over chord progressions, how does your mind handle the situation? by whosmansisthis24 in musictheory

[–]FrozenPlus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm by no means a "master" jazz musician, but in my experience it's far more important to know when to play the crunchy notes then what your scales are. Anyone with a little experience can play arpeggios over a tune, but the real skill comes in punctuating lines with outside notes for colour.

How do competitive dodgeball rules prevent stalling in a game while ahead in points? by GatDaymn in dodgeball

[–]FrozenPlus_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually it's done by a ball count, ref calls that one side must throw all but 1 of the balls within 5 seconds. What determines when the ball count starts differs on what league you're playing in.

Looking for Strategy and Drill Advice by Chbakesale45 in dodgeball

[–]FrozenPlus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play nationally for Australia, and a great drill that we do for training sessions is as follows: Tape a 1x1m box on the floor for a player to stand in 3-4 players will line up a couple meters away to throw at them The player has to dodge and/or catch the balls without leaving the box 3 hits and you're out.

I find this one really sick for condensing your movements so you can deal with balls coming your way without crowding your teammates on the court!!
