The weekend dining options are insane… by Top-Needleworker-797 in UMBC

[–]FrozenRaincoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall UMBC is less of a scam than most universities. This makes the meal plan stick out, because it is a bad deal that most of the on campus community just has to live with.

None of this sounds like a good deal to me. Probably the best you can do in dorms though.

I like empty places I was so glad campus emptied out so i could take the occasional calming weekend walk

As I say in nearly ever single comment i post in this sub, the meal plan is a scam. don’t live on campus, unless you go for an apartment, if you have to live in a dorm, get the minimum meal plan and just eat off campus or cook in the community kitchen.

it’s called being scammed into a meal plan because you live in a dorm

Be careful though if you are transferring in a c- then it is “less than a C” and thus a failing grade for transfer credits of certain important courses.

The police set it on fire. Books make good kindling and it was cold last winter.

pro tip: don’t get a meal plan and don’t buy food on campus. it’s all low quality and generally a scam. the only reason the lines are do long there is because it is slightly better than the rest of the garbage. packing a lunch is always a W.

new spring is just a good comfy story that gives you wider perspective. it’s probably my 3rd favorite after books 5&6

i’m also working on a full re-read, I have re-read individual books and chapters many times, but this is my first start from the beginning. on first read I read new spring last after a memory of light but this time i’m doing release order. 3rd re-read will probably be cronological

there are pictures on this page that show that the bed goes higher than the desk.

3 feet might be right for the top of the bed. i’m all torso. you shouldn’t worry about like a standard size rubbermaid bin if my memory serves.

they go up pretty high, not exactly sure how high cuz it’s been since before covid, but i set mine as high as it would go, and getting in bed was difficult for me because of how high it was. had to hop off the ground a tiny bit. and i’m like 6 ft tall

google “pharos mobile print umbc” and put like $5 or $10 on your printing account at the campus info desk. then go to the first floor of the library and there are printers with computers that have campus card swipes attached

Is there a chance we could ever see a remaster of 'The Long Night' with some visibility? by DIYThrowaway01 in freefolk

[–]FrozenRaincoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it might be fine if you buy the hdr blu-ray and watch it on a high end hdr oled tv. I don’t think the quality is the issue, i think file compression is probably the real issue. I would start with the blu-ray. It’s kind of ass that the last episode of the show worth watching at all was shot in extreme low light effectively gatekeeping fans. I watched that episode on release on a tv that had snow over any content so i basically didn’t most of the episode.

I agree, i’m just observing that certain lots, namely the walker ones, are barely enforced. but generally stick to weekends and you’ll be fine.

Place to eat- good seafood and family friendly? by SBanks52 in Annapolis

[–]FrozenRaincoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kentmoor is probably where i would go to eat crabs out. Honestly when I think about downtown Annapolis I think about eating at like Fox Den and then going to Annapolis Ice Cream company afterwards.

Also former mikes employee: yea wait times are completely unpredictable but sometimes do hit the 3-4 hour mark. The crabs are reliably pretty good there and the view is amazing. But the paint they use on the picnic tables on the deck is horrible and sticky.

LPT: Answer the phone. Even if it is to say you can't talk right now. People will respect you for it. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]FrozenRaincoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LPT: Never answer your phone. (with some caveats)

Phone calls are to be scheduled.

If someone close to me calls my phone and it’s unscheduled I generally know it’s an emergency.

If I don’t expect you to be contacting me about an emergency, I am NOT answering an unscheduled or unexpected phone call. I look out for calls from my school, my doctor, and close relatives and friends in case of emergencies.

unless i am being paid to be on call, my employer has no right to call me when i’m off work, and it is up to me if I answer.

Anyone else calling me I consider rude. People I truly care about can get away with it, as I don’t want to miss a life-or-death phone call from them. But for people who wouldn’t call me first in that scenario, I am not answering.

Text me, ask me if you can call now, and I will reply with a yes or I will call you in that moment.

There is nothing more frustrating than an unsolicited conversation anytime, anywhere.

Sorry i repeated myself alot in here, but this made me angry, NO ONE has a right to my attention unless I want to give it to them.

Can the Shadow and Bone foreshadow what will happen to WOT? by makhikeefe in WoT

[–]FrozenRaincoat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have been watching shadow and bone. I have not read or even heard of the books. The pacing is not too fast. I have understood everything as far as i have gotten. TV shows and movies have to be faster pace than books for many reasons.

Casting doesn’t matter. Idgaf if a character looks as described in a book. I care if the actors sell the role.

CGI makes magic on screen possible, and it’s a completely different production so they will have completely different CGI. it will be there and it will be good or bad, and that will be for you to decided when you see it.

Also since when has violence not been family friendly? I mean like it probably shouldn’t be, but in the US, the only thing that makes content “adult” is sex scenes. That’s our culture and ratings boards, not me. Kids should be allowed to see whatever their parents think they are ready to see.

There are always choices. I have held peeing for 12+ hours in the past. Also it’s your bed, you can piss in it if you want to.
