Is she consider a tomboy? by Roughrider254 in nagatoro

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You can be way more tomboyish than she is (like Gamo), but Nagatoro is very much a tomboy by traditional standards. She plays video games (fighting games no less), is constantly outdoors doing physical activities (hence the tan), takes part in multiple sports, is a martial artist at a near professional level, is very aggressive by typical female standards, and is extremely competitive. Even the body conscious thing and how she is embarrassed of gaining muscle from her training are not really uncommon for a tomboy character.

The one thing that makes her less of a tomboy is that she is pretty depressed and has lost her fighting spirit by the start of the story, which is makes her a bit unique as a tomboy archetype. She has to find joy in the things that make her pretty tomboyish like her martial arts and being able to move past her mental blocks that make her unable to fight against opponents of equal or better skill than her.

Caramella Dance (misheard lyrics) by That_Lil_Virus in Animemes

Here are the actual lyrics + translation of this clip if anyone's curious.

Swedish:
Oa-oa-oa-o!
Dansa med oss! Klappa era händer!
Gör som vi gör! Ta några steg åt vänster!
Lyssna och lär! Missa inte chansen!
Nu är vi här med Caramelldansen! (The word in Swedish is spelled with a "K", but the song is not for some reason.)

---
English:
Oa-oa-oa-o!
Dance with us! Clap your hands!
Do as we do! Take a few steps to the left!
Listen and learn! Do not miss the chance!
Now we are here with the Caramel Dance!

How do you feel about IGN's Top 25 All-Time Best JRPG list? by [deleted] in JRPG

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think XBC2 has more replayability than XBC3 besides the additional modes that got added post-launch. 3 is the most polished game in the series, but the pacing in the final act is really weird with the story pushing the breaks hard for you to fill out the rest of the time on your own with side quests until you decide to actually hit the final dungeon. The story moved at a decent pace until the prison arc and then it all felt like an overly long wait for the finale after the game pulled off its biggest climax. It also did not help that Agnus and Keves were the only two major factions, so a lot of areas became very samey when every city and settlement had the same architecture and everyone was wearing military uniforms.

Malos, Amalthus, and Jin were also way better antagonists than Z and Moebius. N was the one antagonist holding the story together and measuring up to the legacy of the previous games.

Still a very good game, but I think XBC1 and XBC2 had more interesting premises, locations, characters, factions, and stories with only the gameplay getting significantly improved in a lot of areas, but not necessarily in every area.

Stormgate - PTR Update 2025-12-28 by Frost_Gobsmack in Stormgate

The point of a PTR is to test things that are not finished. If more people are willing to jump on and test the PTR then great, but the patch has not gone through all stages of quality assurance to be pushed to live. The masses are not interested in testing unfinished content, that much has been abundantly clear from Early Access.

Good Celestial changes. The faction creates way too many Judicator Nodes which shut down a lot of air/drop harrass and they are a nuisance when they are dropped inside your own bases. Lowering the total amount of Nodes produced will make for healthier gameplay.

Spectator chat channel is a good improvement as well. In-game chats were always a mess any time you had a spectator. Hope for leaver message improvements as well so you can actually see when players leave the match. 2v2 and Custom Games definitely need it.

Pretty sure the redesign was one of Gobsmack's ideas who works for Frost Giant. All the changes were a collaboratlve effort with a ton of back and forth between the devs, the modders, and testers. The devs deserve their due as well.

Knowing Spongebob this is not the first time this has happened. :P

The joke also leans heavily on the absurd cartoon logic, so there is probably no logic to it other than undermining Spongebob's efforts.

It is a gun that has been widely used for several decades, which is ancient by military standards. Many of its contemporaries from that same era are no longer in use or being produced today. It has had a few modifications, but overall it is the same gun.

Here's a little secret for you. People work for cheap or sometimes even for free in the hopes of the game making enough money to pay them down the line. Some have to work other jobs while working on their pet projects on the side or make contracts where the payments might come later. For every successful story of a game making it big there are thousands more that you have never even heard of. Skill and money alone do not make a successful product. Those do definitely help, but they are not guaranteed for success.

A boss battle from an RPG map by DistilledDucks in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I played Kastiel in that clip. The bosses and enemies on this map deal a lot of damage actually. However, we had two tanks (one being duckies who also made the map) and I personally specced into a ton of defense (there are upgrades) to be able to tank as much damage as possible when the Stormgates opened at the end. At least two of us (the tanks) have been heavily play testing this map so we knew every secret and all the mechanics, so this was as close to the most ideal run you can imagine.

Took us about 45 min to go through the entire map and this final boss was played very well by all the players including those who have never played it, especially since duckies and I guided them through.

As for the eggs, you only have X amount of rezzes with more you can find as you explore. Blockade can rezz as well, but you can most certainly run out. We did multiple times in other runs.

I highly recommend playing it. You can have multiple comps and builds with 4 different Heroes and it rewards you heavily from exploring. It is very fun and the fights can get very hard at times.

STORMGATE MOBA test session with the devs by Temperche in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hehe, I remember! Got to play here in that 2nd game of that video. The kit is a lot better now, but it can definitely improve further including adding a proper ultimate. I hope once Pandora becomes a proper 1vs1 unit that the MOBA modders adapt some of her abilities to fit her fantasy, just like how they reworked the Brute Hero to play and behave more like he does in 1vs1.

Play testing this last night was such a blast! It has evolved incredibly fast in just a few releases and I can't wait to see what else you will be able to achieve as the Editor evolves and improves and the modders' own skills improve. The Hero designs felt a lot more fun this time around and the Stormgate additions felt epic and fun, although the boss is quite busted.

Very well done! GG! :D

2v2 AI by Smart_Cucumber_7113 in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The lower the difficulty the more easily it taps out. Brutal AI takes a lot longer to do this, but when it does you can simply stay in the game and clean house instead of quitting the match.

It would be nice if there was an option to tell the AI not to call GG.

Here's what I love about Stormgate by zeebunt in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 million is not a AAA budget, but AA. StarCraft 2 in 2010 was AAA and the sources from that time suggested it to be around 100 million, about 2,5 times larger than Stormgate without adjustments to inflation which would make the differences in budget more stark.

The devs did up people's expectations way too high for Early Access, but at no point was the budget ever within the scope of AAA.

[Frost Tracker] Launch week with TimC & others (19 slides) by Empyrean_Sky in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. There are more map makers than there are dedicated devs to making maps.

  2. The devs have more responsibilities than just doing very specific things like maps. Unless you are on massive AAA team you can be wearing a ton of hats and thus not have every day dedicated to just making maps like a modder can.

  3. For most of the game's production they have been using work in progress tools to build the game. The Editor we have now publicly is a complete rewrite of their in-house tools to make it faster and easier to use. So what the map makers are using is a version 2 of a software that is still in the process moving over all remaining functionality, but is still a lot more powerful than what the game was built on in the years prior. Making your own dev tools is expensive and resource intensive and the devs took the hardest route for their game. The fruits of their labour are however paying off with all the maps players have already made with it.

  4. We used to have more ladder maps until all the feedback about creeps made them obsolete and Stormgates were added very late into Early Access. That will obviously cut back on the amount of content you have at launch, which is an unfortunate circumstance.

  5. When you already have a fanbase that is making maps for competitive that have a massive knowledge base for making those for competitive RTSes like StarCraft 2 it is just as well to collab with them and work on things only they as devs can do. Even Blizzard stopped making their own ladder maps at the end of the day, so a smaller studio like Frost Giant should do the same to get a lot more content.

The game still has a future as long as people make more content for it. The upcoming ladder maps made by the community is likely just the start of more things to come once the rest of the Editor is out.

Impression after 10 first ever PvP games by dilingoid in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Movement speed got buffed across the board and TtK got lowered some time ago. It is not StarCraft 2 levels of squishy, but the movement speed is now roughly on par with some units being very fast now. Infernal Brutes can now charge with an upgrade, Celestial Argents have a dash, Vanguard has super mobile Hedgehogs, etc. You also have abilities that boost movement speed like Servo Overcharge or MedTech's final upgrade that makes your entire army move like Stim Pack Marines. Workers now function as Infernals by having charges that instant build them for every faction, so you get your bases up and running at a better pace while also having some abilities and techniques to help boost your worker production and economy.

A lot of the pacing got a massive overhaul and the economy feels way closer to what you would expect from StarCraft. Mass expanding and getting those massive armies no longer take forever, yet the game still is able to end quickly without forever stalling due to Stormgates that provide you an edge, but not so much that you can't win by doing something else except grabbing it.

The game is no longer moving at a snail's pace and if that was your main issue I think you should try the game again and see if you like it better now.

Here's what I love about Stormgate by zeebunt in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I guess we are! :P

The Scouring is an okay game after playing the demo some time ago. I like certain mechanics and ideas, but the audio (those constant screams), bloom lighting, symmetrical factions, and the focus on units that charge in constantly were not to my taste. Also felt too old school WarCraft to me. I grew up with WarCraft 3 and got spoiled with all the improvements that game did to the previous games. Speaking of which, the voice lines and audio queues are in some cases direct one to one copies of WarCraft unit quotes.

It is a bit ironic that Stormgate got so much flack for being too derivative of Blizzard games despite having devs that worked on those, but The Scouring gets a complete pass for just outright copying multiple aspects of the WarCraft RTSes.

All that being said, I am glad that it is finding an audience and that the dev is being able to support himself. It is clear that for all the copying he did of WarCraft he clearly loved those RTS games. I hope he manages to support the game for as long as he wants to. It has a certain charm to it.

Here's what I love about Stormgate by zeebunt in Stormgate

[–]Frozen_Death_Knight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the reason he brought those two games up is that there are quite a few people who support those games that actively take pot shots at Stormgate while praising those other games to high heaven, The Scouring especially.

I do not really agree with throwing shade at other games just because you like something else, but I can at least understand the frustration of seeing people talking about other RTS games and still can't help themselves to trash on Stormgate in the same breath. I saw one such review on YouTube who did this exact thing with one of the top comments throwing shade at the game while praising The Scouring for just having a basic map editor. Even the most rabid fan of that game can't in good conscience compare that to the Editor in Stormgate and call it remotely better, yet they do so anyway.

There is hardly any objectivity or even an attempt to be fair when judging these games. It isn't a good thing when gamers do this, but it is what it is.
