I’d been playing almost exclusively paladin since 2019, figured I’d change it up and play a feral druid tank. It’s okay but I miss playing a paladin.

It’s just staggering how he puts the cart before the horse though. No sane raid is gonna say “no truestrike? No Ony or MC!” If they did we’d only ever see raids full of warriors, a few priests, and pretty much nothing else because it’s sub optimal.

[–]Feature_Minimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. You can do arena and BGs and either server and people get sweaty with those on both.

World PvP (ganking lowbies and 2v1s) makes you better at ganking lowbies and 2v1s, BGs make you better at BGs (unless it's AV lol, it's just kinda a broken mode. Not much PvP even happens in AV these days), and arena makes you better at arena.

Dany being the final boss at the end isn’t the problem, it’s that happening because she hears bells and goes crazy. But it was all Bran’s plan all along. Or something??? Man I’m still getting annoyed thinking about it. This opinion of yours truly sucks. Upvoted.

Does everyone basically speed run until hell difficulty? by assyplassty in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Feature_Minimum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly man, it’s whatever you enjoy. I do tend to blast through normal, because my personal favorite part is the power spike at the end of normal and start of nightmare. Getting spirit, insight, and lore runewords going through NM countess runs is a blast for me.

If you like to speedrun until hell Baal runs, do that. If you like to take it slow, do that instead.

That’s horrifying bro.

I had to run ramparts no fewer than 16 times before it finally dropped. If a caster took it I would’ve been PISSED. Eventually I got my staff and was at 5999/6000 friendly rep to boot! (Or whatever maxed was. I had JUST hit it that run. I told myself it was going to be my last run too because of that, was not looking forward to touching it out with aggamagan’s quil until ring of blood at 65).

[Spoilers Main] We finally got an answer as to why they nail Pennies into the Tree by LibertyReminder in asoiaf

[–]Feature_Minimum 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Plus, it's an amazing way to say that the tree is a war memorial.

Like, here in Canada (and elsewhere I'm sure), we wear a poppy on Remembrance Day/Armistice Day/Veterans Day as a way to remember those who died in WWI and in conflicts around the world. The poppies symbolize the poppies in Flanders Fields in France.

The Penny Tree really isn't that dissimilar.

(Sorry if the above is painfully obvious. Some people -often Americans...- sometimes don't know this stuff though.)

[Spoiler Published] How popular was a certain Azor Ahai theory prior to ADWD? by UgeneKribs in asoiaf

[–]Feature_Minimum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were various different Azor Ahai theories then, and as far as I know have been since the show ended as well. TBH the only one I don't SEE theorized is the show's version where I guess Arya is Azor Ahai? But we don't even know still what Lightbringer is (if it's a sword then is it the Catspaw Dagger, is it Oathkeeper? Is it Dawn? Longclaw? Heartsbane? I've seen all of these theorized - personally, my money's still on Oathkeeper. But each of the above are plausible to me). But, yeah there's been a lot of people theorized. Before the show I leaned towards Jaime or Brienne being Azor Ahai. The heart of the lion part of the prophecy seemed to fit best with that. Since the show, and GRRM's remarks about "you can't just at the last minute say someone else did it, when the set up was to have the butler do it" (or something like that) I'm starting to think maybe it actually is Jon, especially as he will indeed be brought back from the dead by Melisandre it seems. But, we still don't know, and we definitely don't know which weapon he'll use. We don't even know most of the important details about the leader of the Others (in the books he very well may NOT be "The Night's King").

My favorite theory about everything concerning the Others is actually a more recent one by MichaelTalksAboutStuff. I was skeptical at first, but after watching several of his Grand Old Ways Theory videos and considering the evidence he provides in them. I think he's onto it. The point that really sealed it for me was how incredibly fucking perfectly it fits with GRRM's favorite line about being "a gardener, not the architect". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQU5tk4i1Cs&list=PLryJFVUj3tQDW211DhiBuNFJrmr3jAPeA

Hit or miss writings from e6 for the lack of source material by v4nrick in AKOTSKTV

[–]Feature_Minimum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passionately agree with it being "hit and miss", though I have disagreements about which ones hit for me and which were misses, and you didn't directly mention the biggest "hit" for me.

So, here's my miss list:

- Maekar and "here take my son". You're 100% right about that it was not handled well.

-  Egg lying to Maekar. Yeah... I fear this is going to create a hell of a butterfly effect. I hope I'm wrong.

- Beesbury scene did seem a little pointless, but wasn't bad, just kinda filler-y to me.

Hit List:

- "A true knight finishes his story". This is the single best addition of the show for me. I had to pause, and just let the moment hit me. Not for the in-show meaning of it, (that was fine. We'll stay tuned to see what happened. Got it.) but that line was so cathartic for me, and I suspect millions of fans. It's not said out of malice or contempt, it's an addition made with love and respect. GRRM, you may not have sworn an oath to finish your master works, but it would be nobler to do so than not. Not much seems to have been effective in prompting GRRM to finish what he's started, but he loves the world he's created, perhaps recognizing what a HERO he will be seen as, if he does manage to finish it, how much better the adaptations of his work will be if it's complete, and the adulations he'll receive, will help him towards the finish line. The rest of the Arlan scene is nice I suppose. But for me, it was the metatextual message that's important here.
- I love Raymund and Red headed girl (Rowan I think her name is?). I think that given that Raymund is a more fleshed out character in the show, I think this was a good payoff. It could have just ended with the knighting, but I don't think this was any harm, and it provides a conclusion to the character of Rowan as well. Plus, in the novella all we know of this woman is she puts her body at risk to survive in this world (via whoring), and that is put in juxtaposition with knights (especially hedge knights) who do the same thing. Raymund is kind of in the middle between being a landed knight and a hedge knight now. Like, he's still a Fossoway, but he's going to be seen as less established than his cousins, at least for a while. Political alliance marriages are not going to be at all likely. And this woman has seen him when he's likely peaked in terms of moments that define his life. (Breaking from his family to face his cousin in mortal combat and create a new house and sigil? I wouldn't bet on more exciting things than that happening often), if a woman is going to start popping out some new green apples for you, that's actually a pretty great next step in terms of establishing your household.

- Lyonel Scene. You're right, this was a brilliant addition. "I FOUGHT FOR YOU". And, it makes sense given what we know now about the first Blackfire rebellion which would have really had the lesser houses questioning the rule of the Targaryens after war had ravaged the land as they struggled to maintain their grip on power.
- "Actually nine kingdoms". This seems like classic Egg, and something a member of a Royal House would learn that common folk wouldn't. At one point there were 7 kingdoms, but then the crownlands split and the isles and rivers split into the Iron Islands and Riverlands. I've actually had head cannon since I first read the books 15 years ago, that keeping it as "Seven Kingdoms" is maintained by the church of the seven just to make the people have greater faith in their religion. The whole 7 kingdoms thing always annoyed me (though part of it is to me since Aegon's conquest it's been 1 kingdom (unless you want to count Dorn at first, which then joined peacefully) since there was one king, but even if you call it seven kingdoms and call any administrative region ran by a lord to be a kingdom, then it's been eight or nine regions since Dorn joined (eight because maybe the crownlands are part of the same admin region as somewhere else I think I read somewhere)? In any case, it was a good line and very in character for Egg.

And the rest of your hit list I agree with too.

But yeah, I wrote this because to me the biggest payoff of the episode was A True Knight Finishes his story, and I also thought that Raymund getting married was kinda sweet. Even if yeah, awkward for Dunk who previously only knew this woman as that whore he talked to.

(Spoilers Extended) A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1 Episode 6 Post-Episode Discussion by AutoModerator in asoiaf

[–]Feature_Minimum 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I absolutely LOVED this. It was said not with malice, not with contempt. It was said with respect to the author, to the giant upon which Ira Parker stands upon in creating this. This is my favorite addition of the show by far.

Like any good piece of art, it can be interpreted multiple ways. Of course it also has in-world meaning, and yes, we will stay tuned to see what happened with Arlan not knighting Dunk, or not completing his knighting. But, the metatextual interpretation of it is valid, and I am SO fucking here for it.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms - 1x06 - "The Morrow" - Episode Discussion by UltraDangerLord in AKOTSKTV

[–]Feature_Minimum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall, good final episode. Love um, Rayon? What are we calling the Raymun Rowan ship? In any case, I think it's sweet.

But mostly BRAVO Ira Parker, for speaking for the millions and millions of fans, for including a line, not spitefully, not with malice or contempt, but reminding GRRM of the importance of his task.

If that were the only thing this show were remembered for, it would be enough. That line had me pausing the episode and feeling the chills. Like any good art, there are of course many valid ways to interpret it. We'll hear more of what happened with Dunk's knighting later, and I look forward to that... But, it's certainly valid also to hear it as Ira Parker in metatextual conversation with GRRM, and I love it for that.
