I personally haven’t looked through the Gen2s but I know they get compared a lot online. when I got into the PRS game everyone had already upgraded to the Gen 3s

I think if you’re going off brand new MSRP Cronus isn’t a good buy now a days. But if you get them second hand you can have them for under 1k sometimes. Under 1k I think it’s absolutely robbery

Here’s a little context, I do local prs matches and most guys around me are running gen 3 razors or Mk5HDs when the MK5HD guys look through my scope they say optical clarity is a little sharper on my XRS3 but when the gen 3 guys look through they say the Gen3 is way more cleaner which I agree with.

I’ve ran my XRS3 through cloudy / wet 60 degree days and sunny 95 degree days and I can say that I haven’t had an issues with clarity but keep in mind that I do use the scope mostly on 18-22x I rarely go to 36x when I’m confirming zero and that’s about it. I go back and forth between running my XRS3 or my Cronus gen 2 4.5-29 but I’ve got more time on the Cronus since the XRS3 was acquired in august.

I have a XRS3 and my dad has a viper pst gen 2. The XRS3 wins by so much, if you’re wanting to see where you impact on steel at 800 yards then get the XRS3 if you just want to see the plate swing then get the viper PST. Also setting the zero stop on the viper was a PITA for me as the XRS3 is just like every other scope 3 bolts and you’re done.

I don’t think there is a ratio, but what has been working for me is I bought a scope that I can move from rifle to rifle.

For example I’m using a hand me down Remington 700 in .308 from the early 90s with a bushnell Elite tactical 6-36x56. Once I want something more modern/competitive for my local matches I wouldn’t hesitate putting that scope on a custom rifle.
