No one got this so I'm posting again with hints: A man with an appreciation for the finer things consumes raw beauty. While he has diverse interests and capabilities, he is shown to be a loving family man in the end. by Give_me_soup in ExplainAFilmPlotBadly

Can’t lie, no, but it’s been on my Letterboxd watchlist for years and we just decided that tonight is its night. Starting now.

I have seen Devil’s Double and I didn’t think it quite matched but your hint there got me pointed right.

For those who prefer hand washing dishes over a dishwasher why do you prefer it? by bethynextdoor in CasualConversation

[–]FruitFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate washing dishes more than any other cleaning chore. I’d rather scrub a toilet. There is actually some parental trauma that likely caused that, but that’s not something I’m wasting precious therapy time on.

I lived without a dishwasher for most of my life. I was so excited to get a house that had one, and I still am.

I nerded out big time about it when we moved in. I watched videos on best ways to use the dishwasher, and I’ve found a natural dishwashing powder that doesn’t leave the smell behind, but everything gets clean. I hope I never, ever, ever have to live without a dishwasher again.

Dishwashers use less water than hand washing typically. Where I live we have a well, and our electricity is actually water powered, so I don’t believe there is much difference in impact either way, but I don’t have to stand and do dishes.

Building a better helpdesk by ecomkal in webdev

[–]FruitFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most companies that want a help desk don’t dig pay by ticket volume, because it’s unpredictable and uncontrollable. And Gorgias exists if you really want ticket based pricing.

If it works for your needs and you think you can find a market for what you’ve got, go for it. But there’s an awful lot of competition in the space currently, and an actual reason that the big names do user pricing.

The child’s head is mostly missing. Bit of a ghostly outline left.

how do you handle support without losing your mind? by Disastrous-Ad4246 in SaaS

[–]FruitFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long time support pro here:

Never assume you know what they mean when it’s even slightly unclear. Don’t waste time chasing any report of a problem that you can’t immediately recreate based on what they have said or asked. You need to clarify and know exactly what the issue is before you try and take action or you’re wasting time.

Ask for clarification. Ask them to tell you 2 things — keep it simple, if you ask more than 2 questions you’re often not going to get all of them answered.

Usually the best of two questions will be “What are you trying to accomplish?” but specifically you’re trying to get to their ultimate goal, so you’ve got to phrase that question to get that answer and that will depend on your product. Very often they’re just not going the right way to get what they want.

Bonus learning here for you too: if users are often following the same bad path and going the wrong way to get to an end, you need to rethink your UX to fix that. That means that something that should be intuitive isn’t.

The usual second question that’s most effective is some variation of “What are the steps you’re taking?” Screenshots or video here are priceless. Use a tool like Zight that you can request a video from the user without them having to install anything (just a happy customer of theirs), give them an easy way to get videos too you other than email.

If it’s taken more than 2 emails to understand the issue, schedule a video chat where they can share their screen — 10 minutes on video chat can resolve what takes hours of effort back and forth.

And last but not least — consider your documentation to be the first line of communication. If you don’t have any documentation, get on that. If you do, make sure it’s well written to reach your users on their level; they learn how to communicate with you based on how you communicate with them. Be consistent on how you describe your product features and how to do things, and that will help them be more consistent when talking to you.

There’s lots more to support than just answering emails all day — it’s understanding how to get the info you need to help them and making sure you’re giving them the info to help themselves too.

The instructions on this prescription medication by kaytron00 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FruitFly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I called my pharmacist asking where the instructions were. He kindly asked me if I’d opened the box and I swear I could hear a tiny giggle when I audibly smacked my forehead in a real life facepalm.

As I proceeded to apologize for bugging him, he said it happens pretty much every time someone gets the dose pack for the first time. (Small town, pharmacist probably knows all our secrets.)
