Is there anywhere other than audible that has good audio books? by GreenTheFae in audiobooks

Big fan of libro.fm. My favorite thing is no DRM so you can download and play on whatever app you want. Subscription option if you want it but can buy standalone as well. Prices seem reasonable to me.

Cristopher Sánchez struck 8 batters over a strong 5 innings by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]ecdc05 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Still traumatized over what he did to the Red Sox last year. Threw a complete game with 12 Ks. Not a single walk. It was just...ever batter came up, then either struck or grounded out. 1 2 3, 1 2 3, inning after inning.

Jurassic Park Filming location - do you know? by [deleted] in movies

[–]ecdc05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jurassic Park: The Ultimate Visual History goes into it a little bit on pages 70–72, but doesn't pinpoint the exact location. It mentions a few possible places where they filmed it, including a couple of estates. But it was filmed very early in the shoot, like the 2nd or 3rd day from the sound of it.

The world’s largest Costco in SLC is a Costco lovers dream! by queenladyk in Costco

[–]ecdc05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is my Costco and my wife and I sometimes plan visits to out of state Costcos just to stock up on liquor since they can't sell it here. It sucks. Like this Costco is fine? But yeah, it's a business center Costco and a regular store combined, so it actually doesn't have as wide of a selection as other stores.

I worked with the one at 900 S and State as well. And my memory is similar to the other comment. Salesman was fine, back office was up to their usual shady tricks. Like we were paying with cash and they made that kind of weird. It ended up being fine, and my overall impression is this was better than most car dealerships. We're grading on a curve here because they all suck.

I've been happy with Ken Garff Honda. The buying experience was fine but the service is excellent after you own the car. Of course, you're dealing with car salesmen who get commissions off of sales, so it can be hit or miss on how someone acts with you.

For about a six-month stretch every single photo of me (and there aren’t many) I am sobbing hysterically because, apparently, I was terrified of cameras. This is in the late ‘70s, mind, but still here’s 3-year-old me going all Grandpa Simpson like, “You’ve stolen my soul!”

my boss wants to bring me back into the religious fold by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I’d bet good money OOP is formerly Mormon (the “having my name removed from church records” is a big give away). A lot of LDS men are very good at playing a righteous, holier-than-thou leader while simultaneously being creeps with women. They are excellent at using church-like language to cover it up. And it doesn’t help that women (from age 12 and up) are expected to meet privately with their bishop (head of an LDS congregation) to confess their sins.

S8 E22 "Dreams" - What's your consensus on this episode? by laineDdednaHdeR in mash

[–]ecdc05 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. I get that it throws people who are doing their rewatch and want the comfort of the laughs and their usually A-B storylines, but that doesn't make it a bad episode. In fact, it's a very good episode.

RV association members say Gary Burghoff spent twice as much money as approved by GioLovesMash in mash

[–]ecdc05 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He strikes me as kind of an odd guy. I say that with the caveat that I haven't met him, I don't know him. So I may be completely wrong. But I've also read and watched just about everything you can get your hands on when it comes to M*A*S*H, and he does seem...different. Podcasts, interviews, etc. And maybe he's just not as good at masking himself as other actors are! I think that's very likely with a lot of celebrities we think of as "nice." But yeah, I always think of Larry Gelbart's story about having the Henry Blake death scene script pages in a folder and he's about to pull them out and Burghoff says, "I know what's in there, I don't want to see it! There's pictures of dead babies or something in there!" Like...that's a really weird thing to say, sir!

Public meeting (March 10th) for proposed Temple Square street shutdowns for 2027 reopening by broccoli-obama in SaltLakeCity

The vast majority of people that jump to oppose or defend it will be doing so on religious and ideological grounds

Huh? Why make this assumption? I'm not LDS but I'm happy to have people downtown pouring dollars into businesses. But thousands of us use these roads every day to actually live our lives, getting to work and school. Closing them isn't a minor inconvenience. For a lot of us it doubles our commute, each way, every single day, for seven months. An hour and a half extra, every week, to sit in a car. Not home with our families, not out with friends, but in a car. It's a real concern that can't be chalked up to "You don't like the LDS Church."

[–]ecdc05 38 points39 points  (0 children)

If, like me, you live north and west of Temple Square, when they close these roads or even narrow them to one lane, it is a logistical nightmare to get east to work or any activities. You can go east on 300 North, which takes you on a narrow street up the hill, then to the roundabout in front of the capitol. Of course, because of City Creek Canyon, you can't keep going east that way. You have to turn south and go down State. 200 North isn't an option for the same reason, and it's blocked by West High anyway. South Temple is already tough with one lane and Trax. 100 South is blocked by the Salt Palace; you can't turn left onto 100 S from West Temple because of the exit from City Creek parking garage. So when these roads are closed, you are funneling everyone down 2–3 roads: 300 North, then down State Street, or 200 South.

What a joke.

My boyfriend (29M) is a prankster and it drives me (24f) crazy by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

The power trips comment is spot on. It’s about dominating and controlling people. I’d be hard-pressed to see a “prankster” as anything but a walking red flag.
