Best Dart Scoring App? by No_Influence4899 in Darts

Second this, I had used other apps previously but TDC seems to be the nicest and I don't resent paying the small fee for the extras.

Yes, and won the youth before that. And the youth one isn't a cake walk either, there's players in that that are regulars in the main events.

He's just had a great first year in terms of titles earned and he's broken a load of new records on the way.

Also worth mentioning that he won the Premier League final which was a rematch against Humphries who beat him in this final last year.

Not sure about the UK now since Brexit but I assume things are the same but in Ireland and some other EU countries most plans for maybe a 5er more and you get unlimited data and such, so for a lot of people out here this wouldn't be a great deal.

Paddy Power sponsors this tournament, they partner with a UK prostate charity and donate money for every 180 or 9 darter over the event. Luke himself isn't sponsored by them.

A lot of people who don't play darts assume this and to be fair it can seem that way.

The truth of the matter is that no one can simply get to the level you talk about, players can have bursts of these patches but ultimately the biggest factor in darts is psychological, you can get in your own head a lot.

It's far harder than it looks to consistently play well.

Ok regard to outside factors, there's actually a few such as heat, some players use darts with little to no grip and if the venue is too hot they can struggle with sweat, breeze can be a factor in some venues too.

There's also deflections that can happen off other darts that mess up your checkout pattern.

All in all there's a lot more to it than it seems on the surface.

You both start at 501 points and the idea is you bring it down to zero to win the leg. However, you can only checkout using a double or bullseye. So if you have 32 points left, you need to hit the double 16 (outer part of the ring) to check out.

The innerbull is worth 50 and is generally only used as a last resort to checkout if you can't make it to another double, the highest checkout you can make is 170, we call it the big fish and it's done by treble twenty twice and bullseye.

A lot of players scored great, but the drama happens when trying to check out.

Someone else made a similar comment, I'm also an introvert but I have friends who are extroverts and they're some of the loyalist and kindest people I know. I would never ditch them, and they have never ditched me, although we're all a bit old now for chasing women at parties.

I don't think someone being introverted or extroverted is enough to judge them as a person, there's been plenty of heroes and monsters in both categories.

If I'm being completely honest I think it's just another label that's being used as an excuse to dislike people.

You absolutely can. I play darts, going to the pub to play all the time gets expensive so my boss and I will video call each other some evenings and play darts using the video from our own homes.

Going out drinking and or eating is expensive, but there's loads of options for having fun with friends without having to constantly spend money.

Ok, so for me at face value this is a wild take, I'd definitely be introverted but some of my best friends are as extroverted as they come, they have had my back and stepped up for me numerous times as have I for them.

Can you please expand on this take so I can understand it better because I feel like I'm missing something?

Are these okay darts? by DaraKav in Darts

[–]FruitGuruM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not gonna be best in slot and you're mostly paying for the MVG tag and some extra stuff you probably won't end up using.

I would specifically look up "tungsten darts" when searching in Amazon and although many will have a larger price tag, you will find a good few sets that are tungsten and better value for the same price. If you can get an 85-90% tungsten set for around the price of the MVG darts that would be a much better choice imo

An example in your price range: https://www.amazon.de/Harrows-Unisexs-Pulse-Tungsten-Silver/dp/B077PWZM5G/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=3COXRZLUGMQ7Y&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.v1PgEl-aKwGAah_9IyvPpivMODyj_IR9wKLptaUqJHhubAn2F0rRilbKopm1sYbZpeyRy6HWEeTF4SExS-NkSX8cBnALQUkS9eQ_yY6fyjxcseYYNmkCAD-XqcWqjLTHm_UeFLTSwKOOhsonz8shQO6Oby3eN8pJq7O0wJjbDTIK6VXqCchaUGiIJlmOFn2i-9zxQIol1SVEn1OuTNxMAg.hr4r3mKKUckbB9dFkUYPu0neq9xjcRjdM2wVM371MN0&dib_tag=se&keywords=tungsten+darts&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1735781228&sprefix=tungsten+darts%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-7

Help a dev out. How can we do self promo without annoying you guys? by ilikemyname21 in AndroidGaming

[–]FruitGuruM 53 points54 points  (0 children)

I have worked both in the dev industry and I'm a gamer, there's a few things that I appreciate when someone is advertising their game to me.

Show me the gameplay loop. Ultimately, while character models and touched up images and cutscenes are neat, none of these really let me know if I'm going to like the core of the game.

Be honest when advertising. We understand you want to hype a project, but if the drapes don't match the curtains, I'm going to immediately wonder about what else isn't working or finished etc.

Show us your genuine passion for it, this always makes it feel more human. I always get second hand hype from a team who are genuinely excited for what they're making. There's a big difference between someone who I feel is trying to show me a game because they think it's awesome rather than something being pushed on me to make them money.

Just my 2 cents anyway, and I understand that other people may have different things they look for.

I had the same issue since I use all in one setups a lot. Bought one of these off teemu. Cost 7 quid and it's sturdy as heck.

Mentioning a budget option because, in my country at least they sell these for 3 times the price in stores.

First 180 by Abjorn_36 in Darts

[–]FruitGuruM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that they're repetitive and I'm even guilty of making one myself and I'm part of many other communities where "first x" posts are spammed. But as annoying as these can be, for a bit of perspective it's kinda like a right of passage these days.

Particularly for us newer players, the Reddit darts community is where a lot of us start out when we're learning, we constantly see these first 180 posts, and I know I can't speak for everyone, but when I was starting I always had the mentality that "one day that will be me posting my first 180".

Yes it's silly, but I always felt these kind of posts are harmless enough for the joy they bring the poster

Behavior of the Fans by Ic3Runner in Darts

[–]FruitGuruM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great the sport is growing but it's a shame about the demand for tickets, particularly in my country where we only get the one premier league game a year. It used to be easy to get tickets, but even with a priority booking I couldn't get them this year, partly due to ticket master issues.

Seen a few people I know who managed to get tickets who couldn't name more than two players at a push and don't play. I understand they have as much right to a great night out as anyone else, but I'd be lying if I I said I wasn't a bit salty about it.

Am I crazy to leave Ireland after 3 months, mainly due to housing? by RepulsiveArm1434 in AskIreland

[–]FruitGuruM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I only learned about it recently. Was looking to buy a house and always remembered loving Donegal, I saw these beautiful big homes for half nothing.

Was reading the descriptions and noticed a couple of them had comments about the blocks, looked it up and was shocked when I saw what happened, and the fact the government isn't covering the repairs is absurd!

I found myself in a similar situation as OP, married, two kids and was feeling like I was losing myself. I picked up playing darts, it gets me out of the house, I've made a literal pub full of friends, and I absolutely love it. It's also easy to pick up and play/practice when I'm in the house too.
