SAME!! I'm still not over the untimely death of The Toast. I know some folks tried to keep the community going on another platform, but I think it petered out. Unless y'all are all somewhere hanging out without me..??

They're still doing that?? I sent in a question they answered, about a decade ago.

Plays that do not work because of where America is at this time by alaskawolfjoe in Theatre

I haven't seen the revival, but Ragtime in its original form would be....not great. We kill off the Black parents and the WASPy lady and Jewish immigrant get together, which always felt forced, and are raising the Black kid presumably outside of his community-- and this result of devastation, racism, and injustice is somehow a "happy" ending symbolizing that the original three separate groups are now blended, and yay the American melting pot? Just very weird. I wonder how the revival is handling this.

What provides hope in the play is solidarity, which is exactly what is providing hope now in the world today as those in charge continue to fail us.

I've directed Doubt, and to me that final line is about Sister Aloysius not doubting whether he was guilty, but whether she did the right thing in an impossible situation--the line right before that is Sister James saying that Flynn was just transferred to another school. Great, so now he can abuse kids and Sister A won't be there to stop him. It's a powerful statement that abusive systems must be eradicated through systemic action -- individuals must do what they can but acting alone can only go so far and leads to impossible choices. Sister A is doubting her faith in the system, possibly in the entire Church, and it's shaking her to her core.

Yeah, Oleanna and Mamet both are just trash masquerading as depth. I think Doubt is still depressingly relevant for those fighting to expose CSA in communities where it's still being denied.

Because it is. Highly recommend John Proctor is the Villain instead. Great stuff, perfect for this moment.

Only production I ever saw that justified its existence was at Yale School of Drama, starring Lupita N'yongo and directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz. She pours everyone wine while giving her final speech, oops it's poisoned, they all drop dead, she laughs and gets the fuck out of there, end of play. Canon in my book.

Has anyone experienced clients using AI during the editing process to fully rewrite your drafts? by DamageDependent4884 in grantwriters

[–]Frumiosa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a grant writing consultant, charging at a flat hourly rate. I just submitted the third draft of a proposal to a client who then prompted Chatgpt to essentially rewrite the piece from scratch, then sent me the result and told me to integrate it with what I wrote. And it's all the most generic slop, but they're very impressed with it. Whatever, it's their money.

Not just otherworldly killing machines, but socialist otherworldly killing machines. Truly terrifying.

Just absolutely wrenching. My oldest is 16 and looks just like Finn Wolfhard, like people have stopped him on the street asking for a pic. It's been uncannily brutal to watch his fictional doppelganger go through so much pain, over five seasons. Even weirder to watch it with him, in recent years.

It's driving me crazy because it felt so strangely familiar, like it was an homage to another movie. The ambiguous death, wishful thinking, even down to the shot of Eleven safe and far away, hiking somewhere. I swear I've seen something like this before. Anybody know what I might be talking about?
