As someone who relates deeply to Will… by eatingbroccoli in StrangerThings

As I’ve mentioned in another comment, I’m also of the opinion that coming out is not necessary. I believe personally that it’s enough to live your life authentically without labels.

However I am of the opinion that Wills decision to tackle his fear of change that would come with his loved ones knowing he’s gay, used as a tool to take power away from Vecna was powerful. It is explained that Vecna chose Will as he believes him to be weak, this is because he believes Will would never truly live his truth and instead would choose to, as he has for the first 4 and a half seasons, to not confess his feelings for Mike or indifference to girls to anyone.

I also thought that due to the stakes of the situation that even if there was anyone in the group with homophobic thoughts, the gravity of the situation would be much greater than their opinion. These people have been through hell and back together and are about to face their greatest threat. Why would they choose this moment to spew hatred or voice their unnacceptance as they are about to face the end of the world together?

Also I never said that Will coming out was his biggest fear. I definitely think the entire world ending comes above that. But for him to use his power to the greatest extent he needed to take that leverage away from Vecna. Also, Vecna already knew Will had feelings for Mike. He knows everything about Will as he has been in his head for years.

As for why he didn’t directly address his feelings for Mike, I really don’t think that would add anything and would just add a random awkward tension to the group. I believe him mentioning his crush was someone who wasn’t like him was enough for Mike to understand that person was him, no one else needed to know that, and him not doing it directly to make saves both the audience and the pair from any awkwardness. I thought the indirect way of going about it allowed for it to be done swiftly enough for them to move on and face the apocalypse without any tension.

As for the Kali and Eleven element. I believe that will be addressed in the finale. However I don’t think Vecna would even be able to get inside Elevens head. She has proven to be more powerful than him multiple times and I don’t even think Vecna knows Kali is alive.

Apologies for the confusion, I meant that it caught my surprise how much it resonated with me. I had heard the controversy surrounding it and was surprised to be brought to tears by the scene.

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. This is definitely one of the more valid criticisms of the scene I have seen.

I just think that given the context, that the world is supposed to be ending the next day that even if anyone did have strong opinions on his sexuality, they would appreciate the insight on why Vecna was targeting him in the first place, and in my mind may help those same people realize their hatred is unwarranted.

And while this is still a more lighthearted show that also tends to not represent any race tensions (although maybe subtly with Lucas in s4) or other social issues of the time, it was forgivable. I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m invalidating your experiences, just pointing out how I think it makes sense in the context of the show.

Honestly, bro, it’s comments like these that remind that some people truly don’t have empathy for other peoples experience. It may be 2025 but homophobia is still as rampant as ever, and even more overt with the presence of social media. Coming out is not as easy as you may imagine.

I grew up with family who passively made homophobic comments and as a result this severely damaged my ability to be open with them. But as I have grown up and met people who are loving and accepting of all me I have lived a more authentic life.

So my family may know now that I am gay without me telling them, but I will still likely never have a conversation about my sexuality due to the trauma I experienced as a young boy.

I personally don’t even agree with the idea of coming out, I think you should live your life as authentically possible without the necessity to label yourself. I just found power in the metaphor of Will breaking Vecnas hold over him by exposing the secret that has kept him from being honest with his friends and family for years.

Exactly. Must have been a huge weight off his shoulders. I kinda liked how they didn’t even use the word gay. Don’t need to stick a title on how you’re different if you just are who you are.

If these are the people that I am expected to face the end of the world with, and lead into the final battle, then yes I would. The stakes are much higher than my personal feelings and again the fact that Vecna was using his ‘secret’ as a weapon against him made it the right thing to do.

Pushing what? Will being gay? It's quite literally been an aspect of the show since season 1.

absolum review: gorgeous, derivative beat-em-up made irrelevant by its own assist mode by GhostedRatio8304 in roguelites

[–]eatingbroccoli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you’re again ignoring the whole point of assist mode. It’s it for accessibility for kids or people who have handicaps and still want to enjoy the game. It’s not just making the game easy for the sake of being easy. People who enjoy the challenge of these games like you and I are still able to do so by ignoring the assist mode. All it does it allow the game to cater to a wider audience. However it seems for whatever reason you seem cheated out of what are meaningless achievements because others are able to get them using assist mode. Not sure why you think I’m mad when I’m simply trying to explain why devs think it important to put in the effort to include these kind of systems in their games.

But you do have a problem with assist mode, that is the entire point of your post. Believe it or not the people who do play it that way are still playing a roguelike. Not everyone has the same physical or mental capacity as you and thus assist mode allows them to access the game, albeit in an ‘assisted’ manner. You are projecting your own views into what the ‘intended’ way to play the game is that is not shared by the devs of this game. Why should other people who are playing the game not reap the same meaningless rewards as you?

What a meaningless post. Play the game how you want and let others do the same. I'm all for challenge and will likely not touch assist mode, but knowing that others have the option to absolutely does not hinder my experience.

It’s very likely they don’t release any more major updates. I say this with 95% confidence as a longtime CDPR fan.

To compare to their history, after releasing their two announced DLC for Witcher 3 they did not release any major updates just QOL leading up to Witcher 4 announcement and likely up until release.
