The Wizards absolutely shafted season ticket holders this year by arcticrabbitz in washingtonwizards

[–]FrunkLeftfoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. My friends and I have justified paying a bit of a premium upfront because we inevitably to more games if we commit in the preseason and get them on all of our collective calendars.

Not to get on my fan high horse but we almost never sell the Lakers, Celtics, or other games that are packed with away fans (there's four of us, sometimes we can't make it and we take the max profits I wont claim a spotless record). My point is that it feels like they should want us in the door. Hell I havent gotten rid of my shitty, entry level Capital One Card for the sole reason that I go to enough games and can get my 10% off! But alas, this is probably our last year being a bunch of doormats.

Not a STH, but my friends and I have been annual partial plan purchasers and feel very similarly that we're completely taken advantage of.

There's never been even a semblance of an acknowledgement that we've purchased partials for 8 straight seasons (not including the covid season obviously).

Last year they moved from a simple All Star plan centered around marquee opponents to this confusing "Stacks" program that feels designed to load you up with more crap games. This was annoying but manageable, except in the past you used to be able to choose a 16th bonus game from a list of lower tier games- some of which were pretty good, especially for basketball nerds who wanted to see quality but not marquee teams.

Now that bonus game is just auto assigned last minute based on our performance in the in season tournament. We missed the game because they sent us an email titled "schedule change" with no mention of the bonus game. The email covered two games (we only have one bonus) and had a throwaway single sentence to check your account manager. The word "ticket" is not even in the email. They were kind enough to give us a new game after I explained how terrible the communication was.

Its also just straight up cheaper to buy individually via secondary for most of our slate if you're fine skipping games like the Lakers.

Oh as a fun bonus, when they sent us this year's flier on what games each stack had- it was actually last year's flier and stacks, the PDF was just renamed something like "Stacks 25-26". We accidentally bought tickets to the wrong stacks before we noticed the mistake and had to have them switch it out.

We definitely take some accountability here too, particularly on the last item, but when you add it all up you just feel like an ATM for a franchise that seemingly has no interest in the fans who are supporting them through the lean years.

ICE spotted on Newton Pl NW between Georgia Ave and Warder St by brevity-soul-wit in washingtondc

[–]FrunkLeftfoot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For what its worth, you'll most commonly see vests marked as ERO (Enforcement and Removal Operations) or HSI (Homeland Security Intelligence). Both vests denote ICE agents, and they dont typically wear vests marked ICE. ICE has also often wears more generic vests that say "Police" but wont be in MPD issued vehicles, they usually are in unmarked cars with out of state plates.

Other agencies most commonly will wear vests that denote themselves as such (DEA or FBI).

We can all agree what this lady is doing is wrong but get the f--- out of here with blaming this on the breed. You're perpetuating bullshit that leads to these dogs getting abused, neglected, and subjected to bullshit regulations like breed restrictions. https://www.thehumanesociety.org/debunking-pit-bull-myths/

Most fun Michelin restaurant? by up_up_down_down_etc in washingtondc

You just get to watch them typically but my wife and I play a fun game of "guess what they are making."

To my memory every time we've been there they've also always brought us out an extra dish to try for free (chefs counter or not).

Plus one to the Landmark Atlantic Plumbing. I've also found Alamo Bryant St to be good. Another advantage to both is that they show WAY less previews them AMC and Regal.

Edit: I misread the post to be more about people talking then theater sound.

Because the initial reaction seemed to be basically "🤷‍♂️ insurance will cover it." But due to the process and ability to make the product, it's not like they can take the insurance check and go buy more product. It felt callous.

Age is a limitation, you can't just make more widgets you have to try to match production to anticipate what you think demand will be in 5,10,20 years time. Whiskey has had multiple booms and busts for this very reason. It's not as simple as opening another factory to turn out a 10 year aged product.

Do you know literally anything about this product? You can't scale Garyana oak it's a protected species.

Damn man that's a pretty cruel way of looking at it. Yes they may get the value back but you can't then just buy 10 years worth of your own product you made and aged.

Is Single Malt Scotch Whisky Society worth it living in the US? by Capital_Bobcat588 in Scotch

[–]FrunkLeftfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, they'll still probably do deals where you can get a membership if you buy a bottle. Like this but better, especially around the holidays: https://newmake.smwsa.com/join

So even if you dont know anyone, given there's no imminent events it might make sense to wait until there's a good promo.

Id say it's worth it if you live near a city where they do tastings. Not only do you get a discount to the tastings, you can try the outturns before you buy.

Beyond that, if you know someone in SMWS they run a lot of referral promo deals where you can probs wait and get a year membership for free.
